  • perfect excuse, if zappa said you dont have to play in time --it must be ok

  • Great series man. Thank you.

  • heh. ya don't have to 'play in time' (for the commenter) . the concept is called 'hemiola'. frank zappa liked hemiola because it made the music sound more 'conversational'. playing metrically makes riff like these sound stiff. plus it is a midi trackj - real drummers have a looser feel. i thought the intro clip sounds killer!

  • @jamesedwardtheobald er, pardon the typos, tired hands...

  • Thanks for doing these vid's :o)

  • Great lesson and awesome playing.

  • nice licks now all you need to do is play on beat and stop with the quagmire head bob 1:58

  • @Xmalibur,

    Diggity, Diggity.....Awe-riiiiight! - LMAO!!!

  • iunno, the licks really do sound like something that would spice up a solo, but it has to be something that you're completely confident will work with your solo, or else you're going to come up with a forced mess, like this guy did.

  • it's really a different lesson

    avariety of sound

  • good ideas, but damn dude, learn how to play ur own licks in time...

  • Great lessons!

  • wow awsome

  • that is a very great lesson but i have to be honest i can kick yer ass on a guitar battle green guitar man

  • whenever he adds the intervallic or whatever it doesn't really match the rest of the solo, he doesn't incorperate it well

  • this guy can t play!!

  • @frafunk,

Do you think it would've been better if he had played the whole lesson/tutorial through a cheesy multi-effect processor set to a "distortion & phase-shifter" patch instead? Hmmmm?

OK, so he's NOT the best player out here on YouTube...But he CAN play! More importantly, he's providing a valuable lesson to guitarists trying to get out of the dreaded pentatonic-box rut! (I know I get stuck in this rut, and since his ideas are general/conceptual, they could yield many more licks!)

  • @billmeedog hahaha he has good ideas but lets face it.. he sucks~!... he is a nice tho....

  • you have great lessons and those combined genres sound very nice but the Intervallic Pentatonic parts just sound really anoying and not fitting. I wouldnt you use it too much

  • due you have the tabs for all of these licks?

  • My favorite spot was 2:35...it sounded like diatonic fifths from the E minor pentatonic scale.

  • i found your lesson very helpful,,thanks for taking the the time to show it slow and then working it fast..hope to see future lessons from you..
