  • Very sad day for Denton folks who love going to Tomato. I know so many folks including myself who practically grew up here and attended school.

    Go UNT,TWU,NCTC brothers!

  • Get out of here you Nazi sh^t

  • i'm glad it came down by the people and not a corporation. thats the way it should be.

  • Guess what? They'll still be there. Taking down a building doesn't change who who hangs around.

What the development really did was start the slow loss of Fry Street's identity. I guess when everything looks like Frisco, TX then Denton will be better off right?

  • As being around in or around Fry Street in Denton for about 7 years on occasion, it was always home. I'm GLAD someone set it on FIRE, instead of it being BULLDOZED. So many people made efforts to save this, but money got in the way. This is Denton's way of saying FUCK YOU.

Just my comments. It's a shame to see it go, Denton and UNT will NEVER be the same again.

  • So wait, were they planning to destroy the Tomato anyway? Was this fire deliberate, you think?

It makes me really sad to see this go. It was usually Shiner Bock and a slice of Pepperoni between classes.

  • I usually only watch videos of "spudgie" and that girl with the pet anteater but this one was pretty good.

  • I wonder what the M.O. was for starting the fire. E.L.F.? (The 'if you build it, it will burn' wackos)

A foretelling of fires to come? Probably just some spare-changers with a lighter who ran out of glue to sniff. RIP Fry St.

  • obviously, your reply shows your profound confusion and insecurity in the world we live in today. good luck living your sad life...

  • Thank god they had just torn down the annex to Cool Beans the day before or it would be gone too! We sell Late Night Tacos there after midnight and what a shame it would be to deprive Denton of the tacos they love! Long live Fry Street!

  • Did the idiots that caused this fire ever stop to think that we could have also lost the half of Cool Beans that we still have? Or much much more, Thank God it has been raining nonstop this summer or else who knows what or who would have been hurt. This goes to show that getting even is NOT the best choice!

  • my thoughts exactly!! i hope that part of the building is fine!

  • Last night it looked like it was contained before anything else was hit. Though it did come close as it looked like it went into the already closed former extension of beans.

  • Cool Beans is good, maybe smokey, but not touched by the fire. Thank goodness...we have to take care of what's left of our neighborhood.

  • I have many fond memories of performing on Fry street with the Earl Harvin Trio. This is really sad, dumb and some of the posted comments regarding people destroying it before the bulldozers....well, you need to think about how firemen risk their lives for this kind of stupidity...other businesses in the area could also have lost their livelihood and ruined their lives...whoever did this, repent and get your heart right with God

  • God damn... I knew that demolishing fry street would turn out bad. Fuck. I hope no one got fucked up by it. I used to get drunk and have fun every week right in that spot where the flames are shooting out. This is a fucked up day.

  • someone could have been hurt. Firefighters could have been hurt or killed; so shortly after the South Carolina tragedy. Whoever did this should be prosecuted for the felony of arson.

  • it's a shame to see that building go, but i am happy to see that it burned to the ground caused by people who loved it, than to have seen it bulldozed by people who couldn't care less.

  • "i am happy to see that it burned to the ground caused by people who loved it,"

Not only is that one of the most poorly constructed sentences I have ever read, it certainly has to be one of the DUMBEST. Did anyone stop to consider that a firefighter could be injured fighting that fire or that someone else or other property could be affected by that fire? If logic like that is the product of a Denton-based education, someone should leave the pizzeria alone and burn the college.

  • lulutastic: Your reactionist drivel went too far. The people responding to it are nostalgically emotional and yet you decide to take a swipe at an institution that has little direct connection other than location with this particular event and (from my quick link following) nothing to do with above poster?

    Talk about logic.

  • Well, logic tells me that your use of the adjective "reactionist" is completely inappropriate as my so-called "drivel" is certainly not extremely conservative. I am also confused by the use of a question mark at the end of your last run-on sentence as there does not seem to be a question any where in your post. But I digress. I did not make a derogatory comment about UNT or Denton. I said "IF". I do not know where she acquired her logic, or lack thereof.

  • this is a f^cking internet website, not an english book. get your grammar nazi $hit out of here and get over yourself.

  • lulutastic:

As far as your "IF" business: Why did you chose "Denton-based" and "burn the college" if you did not imply a veiled, derogatory comment on the quality of education at UNT, TWU, or NCTC? The answer seems rhetorical to me, but that may be the misunderstanding.

  • Bahahaha, I love you lulu.

  • this is crazy! could you feel the heat from where you were? how many buildings burnt down?
