Not trying to turn this into a Twilight page but, while i love the books I am aware that they are fundamentally flawed and filled with problems. I call them my one trashy guilty pleasure! But JK Rowling is a far superior author if not so good at the romance!

To all those Twilight vs Potter fans, I suggest you read the mother of all fantasy, the Lord of the Rings, it blows everything out of the water. ALthough beware don't enter it if you don't read a lot!!

Interestingly since I wrote that comment I've gone completely off Twilight which is a relief since I was never quite sure why I liked it so much! I still love Harry Potter though. As to Lord of The Rings... I am trying, I've read The Fellowship and it was good but took a lot of effort. Maybe I'll carry on when I've got more time.

LoTR is amazingly complex and has great descriptions, but in my opinion it is more of an epic tale, with beautiful metaphors for good and evil and human weakness. I don't really feel as close to its characters as I do to the HP characters (who have very distinct personalities and grow up throughout the books), also, I don't like the way women are portrayed in Tolkien's writing. And it gets messy with all the names of people but if you get into it, it's really rewarding.

@Ohyewildthong Believe me I tried reading TLotR, but then I found out that I'm a long way from being able to understand it. It's probably because english is not my mother tounge :S

@weirdloopyloo I respect you so much for saying that. We all have our guilty pleasures and that alright. The problem is when you mistake the guilty pleasure for a master piece

hahaha yes i agree!! i love twilight etc but there's just something WRONG with the books and now i've realised it's the fact that all the characters have these wonderful superpowers that keep changing whenver they need better ones.. haha... oh well. no one could beat JKR for a long time
