  • beautiful...shalom!!

  • Shofar Sho good

  • only in israel have like this.

  • Shofar God chosen instrument for his glory.amen . god bless all of us.

  • Shofar so good!

  • that was crazy awesome...i love this song and then to hear it on a shofar...praise the Living God of Israel...Yesuah Adonai

  • Interesting. There are no modifications on my shofar. I'm a purest. I didn't want to take away the challenge of playing the shofar in a way it wasn't supposed to be able to play. Your shofar sounds interesting and I haven't even heard it. Do you have any recordings?

  • @loffski

    Thanks for your reply Friend

Whern I say modified, it wasnt a major thing, basically making the interior of the mouthpiece cup bigger. I have acquired several ebay horns (yemenites) that had tiny mouth pieces, and would give 1 or 2 high tones. After widening and reaming a bit, they start to give out 4 or 5 tones instead, much more resonant. But at the cost of it being harder to hit the very highest tones..

But the majority of the control, I find comes from Ruach ha Kodesh

    Shalom Jon

  • @loffski I've been reasearching the shofar lately and listening to it and I must say that you have the most incredible tonality and skill that I have seen yet! How much of that pitch change was from moving your hand? Do you play any other instruments or horns?

  • I have found that I am able to play scales and tunes on my rams horn. But I had to heavily modify it. I reduced the length to about 300mm (to remove a badly delaminated section) then reamed out the mouthpiece to a deep long taper, with very thin walls, treated inside and out with danish oil and waxed outside. I find the more I sound it, the better and richer the tones develop, with an increasingly uniform character throughout the range of notes. I also find side blowing works far easier

  • @goldsmithexile I have a rams horn Shofar that has a great mouth piece. I am new to this and had been using a goard that I grew myself from some seeds I hybridized for the the shape and size. Then when I got bored with that I found a great sea shell that I converted by adding a mouth piece. Then a few months ago a friend realized my interest and GAVE me this wonderful rams horn. It is from an American wild sheep I believe. I have been cleaning it and sanding the rough outside and practicing.

  • @johnknoefler

What does it sound like? Have you got a video up yet?

    shalom, Jonathan

  • @goldsmithexile My ram's horn has a great tone. Sadly I am such a novice. But at times when I am well rested it seems to really do well for me. After watching this I would be ashamed to even put up a video. I should take some photos. It has no splits. The outside layer was weathered and had streaks of what looked like paint and even animal dung embedded. Also it had deep checks and weathering look. I have removed all that and am busily polishing it to complete the shine. I will also measure it.

  • @johnknoefler

Keep practising, its worth it to develop strength and stamina in the diaphragm and lip. Mine would often bust open at first (lip that is, not diaphragm; in fact it still does sometimes if I over do things) I think a good blast comes right out of your belly. LOL sometimes I can get NO sound at all from my various shofars....

Check out my kudu wet-sanding and polishing videos. I used grinder/sanding disc, scraper and emory papers, then buffed with metal polish...

    shalom, Jonathan

  • @goldsmithexile Hey buddy, I looked at your channel and could find no sanding or finishing videos. Just Shofar blowing. And you did a great job. And I left some funny comments just so you'd know I was there. Shalom and cheers.

  • WOW!

  • Absolutely Amazing

  • Truly amazing , hard to do...

  • thanking you for this beautiful music. Happy Pesach--- Baruch Hashem Adonai

  • i like that sound i have one almost like that shofar

  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no way wow wow wow oh wow

  • @godroks

thanks for your comment. yes it can be done.

  • @loffski How do you get to play a scale on the shofar? I accually bought a small one but i just can't figure out how to make songs on it.

  • @1812over2 - first step is knowing if you have a shofar that is playable.

  • @loffski Yeah i could play basically just one note but i can't play a scale

  • that is so cool. He's playing that thing like it's a sax!

  • sir you should give a lesson on how you do this im soo amazed or if not just to me jajaj =] just play for every one ♥

  • @1pimp4history - you need to find out if you have a good shofar. not all shofars are playable. find someone who can blow shofar, let them try yours. they can tell you if yours is good. once you know you have a good shofar then you can start learning how to play it. If you have a camera for your computer I can give you a lesson online.

  • im amazed with how you played the shofar man i have one and iv been trying to play the anthem tell me how you do it? please... i learn how to do it on guitar and bass but i love how it naturally sounds on the shofar! ♥ =] i wont to make my shofar more useful as an instrument! cuz i hardly play it...

  • He is so talented. Im so happy i have a shofar now to practice on.

    Shalom !!

  • Lmao, the Shofar was never meant to be played like that... but props to this guy for being able to, it's WAAAAY harder than he makes it look.

  • LAWL

when i first read it, i thought it said "David Hasselhoff"

    i was like

    OH GOD NOOOOOO

  • This is mostly done with embashure an excellent job!

  • That's the most "improbable" music I ever heard. But now I can come up with a more improbable task: South African anthem on a vuvuzela :)

  • GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!

  • I had no idea songs could be played on the Shofar, but this is amazing and inspirational! I can't believe the beauty and control, especially at 0:50 when it went up a whole octave.

  • It reminds me of if "HaTikvah" were being played with "Titanic" bagpipes, flutes, and violins.

  • This is almost needs a jazz accompaniment - LOL - great job! I guess you are controlling the notes with your hands covering the mouth - it must be very difficult to remember all the combinations that produce the right notes?

  • @jonco59 - hands muffle the sound so it's not harsh. notes controlled by lips, direction of air stream into horn, air pressure, the ability to listen, and God. Blowing shofar is more spiritual than mechanical.

  • So hauntingly beautiful!

  • nice job!! I love it!! It kind of sounds like a saxophone!!! :)

  • This is insanely good

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT!

  • best shofar playing I've ever heard! Mozel Tov!

  • Absolutely amazing, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • absolutely chilling!

  • that was incredible, good job brother, shalom

  • that's amaizing!

  • butiful

  • Beautiful!

  • Excellent!

  • Who the heck knew it was even possible to get more than one note out of these things?

    Great job!

  • I'm greatly impressed. My Pastor ordered a Shofar from a ministry and he paid $75, a lot of money at the time. He was so mad. No one could make a sound out of it except his wife & boy did it smell bad. It was so funny. This man, David, is marvelous. What a skill. Come and be on America's Got Talent!

  • @reginaDexant $75 is a fairly reasonable amount for a shofar, and that smell actually means that it's authentic, and not a synthetic rip-off. Playing it is similar to a trumpet or trombone, in that it's not enough to just blow, but you've got to buzz your lips and tighten your whole mouth. If anyone in your congregation has experience with a brass instrument (trumpet, trombone, tuba, french horn, et cetera) they will find it much easier.

  • @artsci10 Todah Rabah! Thank you so much.

  • Outstanding!

  • Mazel Tov!!!!! That is fantastic!!! I play the shofar too, but man......this guy is good. I want to do that. I now have a new goal. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • @Crazy4Minne, Amen

  • Excellent playing of Hatikvah on the Shofar.

This is a true feat of accomplishment to be able to play Hatikvah or in fact any other

    tune on the shofar.

  • I"M SHOCKED!!! has anyone tried to blow a shofar, that is freakin hard, Zasloff is equiped with a golden lung.

  • Great !!! Its amazing and very Hard to blow shofar. Very well played by David.

    Yigal

  • Chazak Baroeg!

  • That brought down the walls of JERICHIO !!

  • That must've taken A LOT of practice to get the hands just right!

  • Amazing! I'm surprised to find out that one can get that much range on the smaller ram's horn. Bravo, David! Shalom.

  • personally I prefer the hatikva on a piano.

    but this is good too

  • WITHOUT WORDS! AMAIZING!

  • מוזיקה יפה

  • I am completely shocked! That's not only amazing, but moving something inside my heart. I'd opened three or four windows with this vid in the same time by chance and suddenly I could hear three or four shofars playing together with PROPER relation! What a music! You must try this!

  • I've never heard such beautiful playing on a shofar.

  • officialmessiah org

  • As a Jew i never seen nor heard of anyone play a melody on the Shofar! Sounds great, and truly impresive. Mazel Tov..

  • Great!! wanderfull! is the firs time that i hear Hatikva only with the Sofar! congratulations.

  • haha thats awesome

  • Amazing indeed!

  • This is really impressive. Although the shofar, much like a trumpet, just acts to amplify the buzzing of his lips, the breath and embouchure control needed to do this is pretty ridiculous. To me, as a trumpet and shofar player, and as a jew, this is amazing.

  • Excellent!

  • לשנה טובה!!!

  • Fuzzy: The shofar is not difficult to play...it's all about having the technique...however, hats off to this guy! I think I'll put my shofar on the shelf! Ha.

  • Very impressive... makes me PROUD!

  • wow!! amazing! He makes it sound like if the ram is crying to God!

  • wow!! amazing! He makes it sound like if the ram is crying to God!

  • How do you play the shofar? I thought for a wind instrument you needed to adjust the length of the cavity to change the pitch. He doesn't move his fingers very much at all. I can't see how he does it.

  • it is hard to do , but... is a gift from yhwh, ecellent ..!!!

  • that is ridiculous...that is soo hard to do!!
