Telemetry from back in the day show him "stroking" the accelerator (most pump this twice, hard. Not Senna usually 4 times or more never really lifting off it.). Awesome! Genius!

@sandrodream1 ofcourse to master a f1 car in the mid 80s was harder because they had so much power and hardly any aerodynamics but i hate it when people say: today f1 is shit. ALL those guys who say that have never driven a f1 car so you dont know it dumbasses! And i think nowadays f1 is more about being on the limit, who can get the absolute maximum out of the car. And good driver in f1 can drive every car. Schumacher raced against senna but also against hamilton, so it doesnt matter which area
@sandrodream1 okay certainly you dont know NOTHING about f1 technology because nobody can drive a f1 car normally, because they are designed to go fast. and to go fast you need so many skills and talent. even today. For example look the next videos: Hamilton with Top Gear(he says: they are very hard to drive, even with TC). Top gear episode where hammond tries to drive a renault f1 car(and believe me he can drive) and the video where Mick Doohan drives an Williams f1 car.
@sandrodream1 haha i dont think so, only a few people in the world can master a f1 car even today ;). but i think everyone shoudl see secret life of F1(DVD) there is shown that F1 isnt F1 anymore without the super high technology but it is also less exicting because the drivers have fewer influence on the car. And murray walker says: you cant uninvent things and engineers will alway find a way to improve the car and make the driver a little less important.
Traduzindo, nessa época tinha que ser piloto, ser "macho" pra pilotar. O que mandava era a habilidade do piloto!! (Eu entendi a frase, só estou indo a fundo!!!)

Real genius. This car have 1000HP? Interesting that Hamilton, Kubica, Alonso and Vettel would give advice to such monsters, which were used Senna, Prost and Brundle (I hope that well-written that name, if not, Amend it to me and I apologize)
Monaco has to be one scary friggen place to drive a race car. 1400 hp on those narrow streets. INSANE! I do love the turbo era, but not as much as the V12s
I would love to see Ayrton Senna in F1 now like he was when he made his debut at 24 years old. If Ayrton had his time now he would show all the modern f1 drivers how it is done!
1,400 BHP - in something that weighs about as much as a bag of shopping, at Monaco - I would last about 50 yards (or jsut a long as it took to reach the first barrier I could crash into)1
@brizolidis if he crashed in that old death trap of a car he'd be dead, not like this modern day bullshit, he die in one of those coffin cars and he would be doing up around 240-260+ not slow...
@brizolidis because that was a car, not a flying saucer with wheels like the modern F1 cars. that wasnt such powerfull engine, no assists and the car wasnt full of wings and moving wings . . . its more like, Bruno Senna, now, have a better car than Ayrton Senna had in this race u`re watching, and u see that Bruno Senna dont have a modern F1 car, his car is a piece of shit for the modern F1 cars.
i hate those who doesn't really like F1 and pollutes the chat with stupid post like this driver is better than that one! grow up! watch the video and post something intelligent or relevant about it!!!
said that, lets comeback to what is important.
1000HP+ with almost all time 1 hand handling! amazing!
Given that I think Hamilton is a talented and good driver, he won't even come close to Senna and even Prost's level, no one in today's F1 is anything like Senna, not even Bruno Senna. Vettal is a fast rising star but he's far too wreckless at times.
@SSgtShady Senna podia ter sido marciano que seria o melhor de qualquer jeito. Não tem nada a ver com a América do Sul. Tanto é que nunca mais teve outro piloto igual.
We often forget how drivers in the 70s and 80s really were putting it all on the line with those cars. 1400bhp. No safety cell. No high speed impact absorbing bodywork. Nothing. Just the driver, and lots of noise. Amazing.
@stellpoons It was both Senna and Prost's fault, Prost should have expected it when he steered wide in that chicane and Senna drove into the corner too fast.
those fcking assholes dont wanna tell the true how he died ... they say its not the car who takes the blame..SENNA was the greatest driver ever,,he wasnt crazy not to turn in that damn tamburello driving near 200 mph...fckin williams i hate that car :@
spectacular car with its large wheels and his small front spoiler in the pilot seemed that was the tip of the car, the march was manual and the steering wheel shook, miss those times!
impressive acceleration in constant touch with different curves and also the rate of acceleration at the exit of the curves and you feel the engine opening, no doubt for those who understand that racing is art on four wheels, and this and an artist
Clear to see he drove on the edge OVER it. He said many times that he constantly tried to go faster, faster, faster.I can't help but wonder if he had not crashed in Italy in 94,would he hv crashed somewhere else given his modus operindi?
It's not that there is no light, it that the camera cannot adjust to the ambient lighting change quick enough. Today's cameras wouldn't have this problem.
@suprchrgr Precise! - if that camera should have been abel to record in the tunnel, the rest of the film would just had been a bright blur, do to too much light.
in those years in the tunnel there were not a good light as now.but it looks so dark only because of the cameracar.the diffcult for drivers was only at the entering and the going out,for the sudden changing light
Incrível... correr nesta época com esses carros que pareciam mais Kart com super motores, sem segurança alguma... somente sendo O MELHOR para fazer isto, muita coragem e talento!!!
Note how back then they had to lift gas at the middle of the tunnel corner. That´s how much power those engines had!!
Imagine having to race with that abrut engine power, triyng not to let your oponents fly away, but at the same time being gentle with the throtle. If it was squeezed before time or to abruptly...bye bye rear end ! :)
Yep. Lots of power harder cars to control, more of the driver to take more out of the car. Diferences from the better one´s became huge on this circumstances.
Relating the aerofor the newer cars. I do believe they down grade it to allow overtaking, as the car as less aero grip and it´s easier to overtake just by using the brakes. Is it working? Not much in my mind.
The cars have been adjusted to take away some downforce, but give more draft-assistance to the cars behind.
This is a problem because when the car behind gets into the draft near a corner, they loose heaps and heaps of downforce, thus making it impossible to get close enough to overtake in many instances. They need to remove such heavy reliance on downforce, and allow more mechanical grip.
Yep. I do believe back in 2006,07,08 they arlready had that problem. Even back then. But I believe it must remain. The F1 comentators don´t talk much about that here in Portugal, and I haven´t read a lot about it lately to be honest, but I believe that, as you say, it remains a problem.
Less downforce and more mechanical grip, plus lots of power it´s the way to go for me, as the cars become quicker overall, quicker out of the corners and harder to control (without TC of course). The better drivers will emerge under those circumstancies :)
Plus the engines are VERY similar nowadays, engine revs, power, arquitechure of engine. if there aren´t diferences the ods are it will become harder to make a diference :)
@slikapika Like who? Even the best of todays F1 drivers says that Senna was top of the line. You think they don't know what they're talking about? But yes, if you only look at figures drivers like Schumacher were better.
senna o melhor

!,400 hp for a car that can't weigh much over 1,500 lbs. right? Every hp has to pull a little over 1 pound?!.....Tough work! Insane, the turbo era.

Turbo lag!!!!!!

That is true, modern F1 cars have such a short learning curb.
They want more people to watch the F1's. But they make the engines less powerful, and redesign the aero to make it harder to overtake?
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realise, raise engine power, drop aero aid = more exciting racing. The driver's ability has much more effect.
Playtechy 2 years ago

The problem with the new design F1 cars are:
The cars have been adjusted to take away some downforce, but give more draft-assistance to the cars behind.
This is a problem because when the car behind gets into the draft near a corner, they loose heaps and heaps of downforce, thus making it impossible to get close enough to overtake in many instances. They need to remove such heavy reliance on downforce, and allow more mechanical grip.
Playtechy 2 years ago 2
Yep. I do believe back in 2006,07,08 they arlready had that problem. Even back then. But I believe it must remain. The F1 comentators don´t talk much about that here in Portugal, and I haven´t read a lot about it lately to be honest, but I believe that, as you say, it remains a problem.
Tuscopa 2 years ago
Less downforce and more mechanical grip, plus lots of power it´s the way to go for me, as the cars become quicker overall, quicker out of the corners and harder to control (without TC of course). The better drivers will emerge under those circumstancies :)

Plus the engines are VERY similar nowadays, engine revs, power, arquitechure of engine. if there aren´t diferences the ods are it will become harder to make a diference :)

Jesus, just seeing how there's almost zero visibility in the tunnel, he literally looked like he was driving blind there.

@slikapika Like who? Even the best of todays F1 drivers says that Senna was top of the line. You think they don't know what they're talking about? But yes, if you only look at figures drivers like Schumacher were better.
