@tferrisjr Listen to the song and the video makes perfect sense. This is one of the most perfect songs ever written and has nothing to do with house. Apart from it being used in the series. If you knew your music you would know that. This song was released along long time before House.
It's actually about Dr. House's Triumph over his addiction to pain medication, and his journey as he realizes he's not as perfect as he thought he was, and must eventually change lest he lose Wilson, his only true friend in the world.
@nitenoob House debuted on Fox November 16, 2004. "Teardrop" is on the Massive Attack album "Mezzanine," which was released April 20, 1998. That's what I know. =)
@epsereth Teardrop was released in 1998 by Massive Attack and one of the first ufficial house tracks from Jamie Principle "Your Love" was released in 1984.
This song has got nothing to do with the baby.I think Elizabeth cheated on her lover. she says "water is my eye(she is crying) most faithful LOVER. (talking to her lover) teardrop on the fire (still crying) of a confession.(admitting she cheated.)most faithful lover feathers on my breath.
Most faithful MIRROR (as if she has trouble looking at herself knowing what she has done) teardrop on the fire of a confession.( admitting to herself what she has done).
@Idreamtobreakaway it's "fearless on my breath" not feathers. and to back you up, at the end, it says in their written lyrics "its tumbling down (as in love falling apart)
I once read or heard that the singer was pregnant in 8 or 9 months when she recorded the song, and this gave the concept of the video. I always pictured that she wrote the lyrics as she found out that she was pregnant. I also think that the song gives a mix of happiness and anxiety, as pregnant women realize that this is the beginning of something important that would change their lives.I don't think that the song was written as an anti-abortion theme, it kinda became that later
Fearless on my breath Teardrop on the fire Fearless on my breath Water is my eye Most faithful mirror Fearless on my breath Teardrop on the fire of a confession Fearless on my breath Most faithful mirror Fearless on my breath Teardrop on the fire Fearless on my breath Stumbling a little Stumbling a little.. the text of this song in two parts
Love, love is a verb Love is a doing word Fearless on my breath Gentle impulsion Shakes me makes me lighter Fearless on my breath Teardrop on the fire Fearless on my breath Nine night of matter Black flowers blossom Fearless on my breath Black flowers blossom
People, seriously, how could this be about abortion in any way? Lyrics are about beauty of life, the video is about the fetus's feeling of security. The line "You're stumbling into" at the end hinches on its birth.
As far as I know "Teardrop" was a poem that Liz Frazier wrote when her ex-boyfriend, Jeff Buckley, drowned. She recorded it one year after his death with Massive attack (after the Cocteau Twins split)
You dont know that! you have no clue! dont make your own assumptions fact. It can mean alot of shit so dont go and say you know for a fact that is what its about, because you dont. In fact the words indicate love and the power of life. Being fearless to live, and yet we all stumble. You may be right of course, but dont just fully assume its abortion. That is so closeminded! Consider your options. I think its about the power of love and living.
@SparkleSimba have you read my full explanation in the other video? now I'll give you credit that I don't know what the artist and director of the video intended to do, but consider the fact that they have been asked repeatedly if in fact is about abortion, now this video if you put it together with the "real"lyrics and how synchronized is with the story you see this video and song are about life in the sense that abortion is wrong.I'm no one to judge because that is between them and their maker
@SparkleSimba"you may be right of course" and this video could mean a lot of different things to a variety of people like buddhist that believe in reincarnation, and so on and so forth but I would never concede to that, not because I'm "close-minded" but because I'm so sure of it that I would bet my life. I'm as sure as 2+2=4 because if you follow the lyrics and the synchronization in which the video contours with the song... Uhhhghh... I just find it FASCINATING!!!
But it's like reading between the lines. Just because the phrase says "I like gummy bears" doesn’t mean they love them or would eat them everyday. I think this video is being over analyzed. It is what it is. There is no room to assume anything as we are not the creator of the video OR the lyrics.
So I am sure you are not sure…if that made sense. Unless you are in fact the author, or you wrote the lyrics, or by some chance you are “related” to the author then you do not know. You can’t.
i think there is a metaphor with the word 'feather'. i think it can be the little things flying inside the placenta (forgot the name) and the ashes and she sings "teardrop on the fire", this last one must simbolize the death.
'black flower blossom' must simbolize death too. just my opinion...
Maybe it has simply to do with that at the time when the recorded the song the singer was pregnant. but I truly love this song and the vid.

@tferrisjr you dumbass, House took the song as their theme song, Massive Attack's music video has nothing to do with House.

I think that the song talks about how void and meaningless life is; "Teardrops on fire...". This video also confirms it..

@nitenoob This song was made BEFORE the show was!! So it can't be about House, and WHY did you capitalize "Triumph?" It's not a proper noun!!
skmloafer 1 year ago
@skmloafer a) The house show is based on a real life Dr. Gregory House, who's life transpired before the creation of this song,
b) I capitalized Triumph because it was a BIG Triumph on Dr. House's part. He really did turn his life around.

a music video does not necessarily interpret the song. a lot of M.A's videos are out there and unusual and do not interpret their songs.
