Just read a psychology article on this very phenomenon... DON'T DO IT. It can really mess with a girl's psyche. 90% of the girls who take this pledge will have sex prior to marriage. However, they will have a higher risk of STDs or pregnancy, because they will not make it a habit to use any kind of protection.

I'm really doubtful of the 1 in 6 purity pledge number. That sounds outrageously high to me. Doesn't matter much in any case. Studies show a purity pledge only puts off the actual loss of virginity by an average of several months. So "purity pledge" girls are just like normal girls.

This seems both really sweet, and really sad at the same time. This seems both really sweet, and really sad at the same time. My father raised me by himself have a close relationship with him so I understand that point of view and what the dads are saying, as far as hoping for their daughters to find a good man to have kids with and all that. But at the same time I never pledge anything to my dad because this isn't the 14th century! I took sex-ed classes at school and we had that little talk and that was it!

Ok fine lets assume a scenario where everybody comes together in a perfect nuclear family happiness pie. Wouldn't it still be wise to know about birth control just so you could control the amount of children you'd have at any given time so as not to overwhelm a family? I mean the argument is always made to look like once you're married you'll never use birth control of any kind again so why ever learn about it. That's just nonsense.

The female virgin is revered, never given over to ridicule. Male virgins, well, that's a different story. I never took the pledge of purity but purity is still in effect. I've been exposed to a lot of sexual impurities in my time in the service but I never did the deed in any way, shape, or form.

If you are incapable of achieving it through any of these means then it is not a choice, but a situation forced upon you by multiple variable factors. If you cannot walk to the ocean cliffs edge, you cannot have the choice to take the dive.
