It's a pity Probot was just a one-off...so many awesome songs on that album.
Am I the only one who thinks this song sounds a lot like vintage Black Sabbath? Listen to this and then War Pigs or the self-titled song, there's a definite parallel there in both the sound and the lyrical themes.
@EnvisionerWill as soon as the guitar struck the first note black sabbath instantly came to mind. no idea why, but hey i'm not questioning it, It's an awesome song.
Well Probot is a side project of David Grohl, he wrote a song to each band that he has liked and asked them to sing on that song on his album. awesome album
What the fuck are you guys talking about? This has nothing to do with Soundarden. This is Lee Dorrian, of Napalm Death fame. Not everything's about your grunge.
Kim Thayill of soundgarden on guitars mate. And soundgarden were a metal band, they just happened to be in seattle when nirvana blew up, therefore "grunge"? And grohl worte the music, mr dorrian only the lyrics and awesome vocal performance
Fuckin awesome, The singer almost sounds like Dave but not quite. I wonder how it would sound if Dave sung it, but regardless, PROBOT FUCKIN RULES, especially this song
@xxshino123: guess you're famed music critic, aren't you? ever heard about a certain Lee Dorrian? why would ever Dave have called him, if hadn't he been among the godfathers of this genre?
I think the album was one hell of a "hit and miss"-fare with all-time favourite singers not being able to save their tracks being mediocre at best(King Diamond & Tom G Warrior being first ones to come in mind) but this is without a doubt best track in it.
i think Probot can do with metal what The Gorillaz did with alternative/rap (if u dont know wat i mean) The Gorillaz main vocalist is form the band Blur, he gets 2gether with underground rap artists n u hav a Gorillaz album
#2 what you said wuz right... when i first heard black hole sun im like where can i get this crap!!! pretty noose is good too! bottom line: kim was one of best guitarists alive
Sounds too much like Grohl wanted to write a Cathedral song Dorrian said cool to doing it to sell some Cathedral albums to any Foo Fighter fans who liked it......Good marketing ploy....LONG LIVE CATHEDRAL!!!!!
i'm into grunge and doom/death metal but this band did something very amazing and different! a mixture of heavy grunge and doom. total disaster in a good way of course!
Picture Of Beauty & Innocence is the acoustic intro. The name of the first song in the album is Conmiserating The Celebration. And yes. This amazing song Ice Cold Man reminds of Conmiserating The Celebration
ummmm living in obscurity? and thats the whole point, they didnt measure success by money or fame, they just wanted to play music to their fanbase. all of those bands, im sure, were happy to become rich and famous but i dont think thats how they intended when they started. glam rock's goal was sex, money, and fame. .. bit of a difference m8
Kim Thayil was a monster guitarist, some mindblowing work with Soundgarden. I wish they would reunite. Soundgarden changed my life, more so than Nirvana even. I preferred bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana and Pearl Jam to Metallica. Metallica have no ideals or principles, theyre devoid of any principles. Whereas these bands were amazing.
pearl jam's problem is that they try to stand for every cause. no one cares about politics in music, we just want something to shake our goddamn eardrums.
oh yeh this is stuff reminiscent of Sabbath and other similar bands!
i think grohl and thayil wrk good together! AND i also think people need to give Lee Dorian a break- i dnt listen to cathedral or any of his stuff- but i dnt think his vocals are that bad!
actually they compliment the slow, heavy and melodic sound given frm the drums and guitars!
Man I fucking knew right away the artwork was from the same artist who did the artwork for Voivod. Any chance of a guest appearance of Lee Dorrian with Napalm Death by the way? Since both Cathedral and ND play at Wacken..
Yall fuckin sound like some emo's, ur not, but if there was an emo/ignorant goup of people yall would be in it please tell me to shut the fuck up give yourself a headache over it
that's because while cobain and novoselic were melvins and vaselines junkies, dave is an admitted metalhead. one of the biggest reasons this record ever saw light was because dave wanted a chance to work with his heroes
i can't believe there's so many people who dislike Lee's "Doom" vocal. The vocal delivery in the Cathedral songs "Soul Sacrifice" and "Tree of Life" and Death give me goosebumps every time.
Lee Dorian's voice here (and in Cathedral) normaly makes me laugh. The only albums I own with his voice are Scum and From Enslavement to Obliteration. Clearly different... He still kicks arse though
Music was cool... vocals were unbearable. A prime example of why Soundgarden should get back together if this is the best Thayil can do after 10 years outside of the band... Cornell's solo stuff ain't very good either.
You are VERY wrong when it comes to the vocals, it's Lee Dorrian (Napalm Death, Cathedral) how can you say that this is bad singing. Besides have you been making music for Twenty years and have earned respect from both of the Grindcore and Doom metal genres? No? Did not think so, now shut your fucking mouth.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Whatever you say... there's not one thing musical about what the vocals are doing here, just an opinion that Thayil is wasting his time when you compare this "music" to what he left in Soundgarden. I've made more music than you in several genres so my comments are not unfounded... don't agree? That's cool, but don't run your cunt at me b/c I don't like this guy's singing.
