My main issue with Sonic 4 was how painfully unoriginal it was. It's kinda like the game Heretic. It was competent game, but nearly everything it did was already done in Doom years before. Same with this game, except they had to remake Sonic 1 almost level for level. Give us something new and shiny, Sega!

I know all the nitpicks people had about the physics and (lack of) difficulty in this game, but you know what? It's a fun game, with good music, and a real touch of classic appeal. And to me, that makes it worthwhile.

@Ryusuta I haven't played it, but based on watching this video, this looks pretty fun. I guess the vocal minority who complain about stuff like "the physics are wrong" are OCD or something, because who cares if it's different if it's still fun to play? I can see the the lack of difficulty, though. I suppose the level designers are to blame for that, because Generations' modern levels are significantly harder even with all the special moves vs. classic.

The only thing that I could honestly complain about from my ~25 hour playthrough (all red rings, 100% S rank, 100% missions, lots of online time attacks, etc.) is the final boss. THAT'S IT. Sure, the classic physics are different, but that's not a complaint. They're just DIFFERENT. That doesn't make them bad just because they aren't the same as a game from fucking 20 YEARS AGO!

Maybe the people complaining didn't have fun playing it. I know I sure as hell didn't. And I even gave it a second chance when the PC version came out, since before I had only played the slightly inferior Wii version.

I hate how Sega only uses the Sonic 3 & Knuckles stage clear theme. The Sonic 1 and 2 stage clear theme was a lot better. I think the last time they used the 1/2 theme was in Sonic R as the "You Got Chaos Emeralds" jingle (and the 3 & Knuckles theme for the win screen, making R the only game that had both themes).

@GoGojiraGo I know this is 8 months old, but since no one replied to you, I think the reason why they don't use the Sonic 1/2 stage clear theme is because they don't own it. For Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 they hired a band to compose the music, and in all the games they use the music in they have to pay royalties. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the stage clear theme was most likely done in-house, so they can use it as much as they want without having to worry about paying royalties.

Of course it's not. Some of the best VLPs are single-commentator. Check out Research_Indicates' Tresspasser LP, Diabetus' Battletoads, Simply Simon's mega man videos, Medibot's Kirby 3, or raocow if that's your thing. it really depends on the kind of game and the scope of the LP.

Let me amend the statement, then: they're USUALLY bad.  Beyond the gems in lparchive. Retsupray wouldn't exist if they were all good.

Speaking of that other game, You are going to be forcibly reminded of it once you get to Generations. Unless you choose the 3DS one (though why would you do that?)

Honestly I wouldn't care about designers throwing away movement gimics as long as SEGA gave some incentive to buy the episodes seperatly instead of waiting for the bundle sales, like a discount on Episode 2 if you purchased 1 or something.
