U cant get a tattoo, ears pierced, or take an Asprin at school, but U can get a "morning after pill" from Planned Parenthood!!?? Or even worse; A surgical abortion!? How would u know how to help your child heal & recover if u have no clue & shes to ashamed to tell u (or being threatened by the one who impregnated her!) This is INSANE. This has NOTHING to do with a womans right to choose. Unless she is LEGALLY AN ADULT WOMAN!!!
Laws are made for the benefit of the majority, not the minority. Members of the minority are protected in different ways--such as the exceptions Prop 4 would've allowed for girls with dangerous or violent families.
It's funny. I'm for prop 4 but against 8. Alot of people seem to be throwing these into the same catagory even though they're entirely different issues.
Not a "household adult", a family member. There has not been a single documented case of a girl EVER suffering abuse because of abortion notification laws, although 22 states currently require parental permission and 10 require parental notification. All Prop 4 does is inform a young girl's family that she's undergoing a medical procedure.
Unfortunately, we live in 'progressive' CA, so the liberals rule here. For those with higher family values this is completely unfair. This law will let sexual predators get away with their crimes. I think a fair proposal would be to change the law so that parents are notified and at the same time those abused teen girls can let authorities know that they are abused by their parents/guardian so they can be brought to justice. Good parents/guardians, their rights are stripped away unfairly.
I am SOOO voting YES on Prop 4. I have 3 beautiful, smart daughters and as trust is the #1 goal in our relationship, I certainly would want to be part of every event in their lives both good and bad. Contrary to some belief, I support my daughters 100% and if indeed there is rape (God forbid) involved while they are minors living with me and my husband, you DAMN right we as parents have a right to know what is going on. This is a FAMILY issue NOT a government issue. Yes on 4and 8!
that might be ur family but SOME children dont have that liberty in hispanic households some fathers BEAT their daughters or THROW them out of the house, this puts not only their life but their BABYs life at risk, dont be so selfish and think only of you, VOTE NO on Propr 8 AND 4
Not everyone can tell their parents about on abortion. Many parents would kick their daughters out of the house or do much worse if they found out about a pregnancy. I know their are "safegaurds" for these circumstances but what scared, abused, pregnant 14 year old girl is going to be able to have the courage to go to a judge and tell them they need an abortion but can't tell their parents because they fear abuse?
Telling a judge is not necessary under this proposition; neither is telling a parent. Prop. 4 just stipulates that an adult family member be notified - the minor can decide who that family member is. 35 other states have notification laws - there hasn't been a SINGLE allegation of abuse resulting from notification.
This video is comparing the descision to seek an abortion to getting a tans. How many girls do you know who are willing to travel to Mexico for illgal tans, or take poison to get into an "R" movie.
The video is most definitely NOT trying to equate abortions with getting tans or going to R-rated movies. I completely agree with you - abortion is MUCH more grave than either of the other issues. All the more reason to involve families in the process!!! They're required by law to give CONSENT for tans and R-rated films, why not even NOTIFICATION for abortions???
Maybe because the teen doesn't want a parent to beat her senseless OR because the FATHER is the rapist - duh! What world do YOU live in that all teens are all safe from their parents?
You clearly don't understand the Proposition. It states that a family member (not necessarily a parent) be notified (not give consent) prior to an abortion. The minor can choose who to notify - aunt, uncle, grandmother...
Prop 4 opponents are funded by a company (Planned Parenthood) that makes large amounts of money from abortions and don't want to lose a significant part of their customer base (underage girls) . The girls' safety is their last concern. Don't buy into the rhetoric.
You're not gonna gain points by imputing pecuniary motives to Planned Parenthood, imbecile. Safety, and mental health are ABSOLUTELY what's at issue. A person shouldn't have to pay for the rest of her life just because her parents are sexually abusive or religious psychopaths.
Stick to the issues and stay away from the name-calling. You might come off as more credible.
Explain how family notification takes away "saftey". It actually ensures the minor's saftey - what other surgical procedure can minors get without their family being informed at all?
I challenge you to provide one example - a single one - of a minor being "abused" because relatives were informed of her abortion. Opponents of Prop. 4 couldn't find any instances. Your argument is baseless.
YOU will never become pregnant. Or have to tell your parents that you are pregnant. Which can be "suicide" in some cases. You need to get a clue! Why don't you go to homes where the parents/guardians, are physically or emotionally abusing them. Regardless of social status it happens everywhere.
And again, when has it ever been "suicide" for a minor to tell their parents about their pregnancy? There have simply been NO known cases. Prop. 4 opponents are using scare tactics to remove the family from the very important decision of abortion.
Prop 4 is NOT removing the family from that decision of abortion. It is not a family to decide. It is her body, her choice. Just because you haven't seen any suicide cases on TV for you to see. It doesn't mean that it hasn't happened. Also it is deception, as I stated at the end of my message. That even if THERE IS NO ABUSE AT HOME they have to sign a statement that it is going on at home. So if you READ an entire message you would have seen it.
If it really is "her body, her choice", does that mean a minor should be able to have sex with an older man? What of all the other restrictions society places on a minor's choice (alcohol, smoking, driving, tans, movies, even receiving medicine...)???
You are seriously comparing things that are not comparable. Her body, her choice, has nothing to do with your point that you are attempting to prove by questioning if "a minor should be able to have sex with an older man". Her reproductive health IS HER CHOICE. That choice will be with her the rest of her life. All your other examples of restrictions on society wont affect her for the rest of her life. So you don't have a leg to stand on with ANY of these examples.
The whole Idea behind legal abortion is to give women control over their own body, notifying a parent or needing connect is taking away that control. and if you haven't noticed most people won't care if you take an aspirin or you go into a rated R movie. and tanning is for people that want to purposely burn their skin. =/
"They're required by law to give CONSENT for tans and R-rated films, why not even NOTIFICATION for abortions???" Because a 'tan' doesn't last for 18 years or cost thousands of dollars she doesn't have, or put her at risk for dying during childbirth. Also, its something growing inside of HER, not her parents or anyone else for that matter.
EXACTLY - a tan IS MUCH less serious than an abortion, but parents must give CONSENT for it. Again, I don't get why there isn't even any notice for a surgical abortion.
In each of the cases mentioned, it was the girl's own ability to do something that's restricted by law out of concern for her safety. Why should surgery be any different? We're not talking about restricting the rights of adult women. We're talking about keeping minors safe.
Planned Parenthood,& a ton of other Companies and places that donate to No on prop 4. THEY ARE NON-PROFIT! So they DO NOT make"Large amounts of money from abortions". It is only maybe 10% of the services that they offer. You are clearly misinformed about a lot of things in life. Letting another family member know, this is deception. They will have to sign a statement that they are getting abused at home(even if they are not!
How is letting another family member know "deception"? The deception is not informing anyone. Deception allows sexual abuse to continue. Deception is a step-dad sexually abusing his daughter over 100 times and taking her to Planned Parenthood to destroy the births caused by his crimes. Deception is Planned Parenthood not saying a word about it to anyone, because they didn't have to.
Planned Parenthood if they see that abuse is going on they do report it. If they do not know they obviously can not report it. Also there are other abortion clinic in the state that aren't Planned Parenthood. Why are you targeting them?
Over the past 15 years, abortion providers in California have not provided evidence of a SINGLE sexual predator that has led to prosecution. At the same time, over 50% of minors' pregnancies in this state occur with an adult male as the father. Either every unplanned pregnancy is somehow brought to term, or abortion providers aren't reporting abuse because they don't have to.
If this prop gets past then it is forcing kids to talk to an adult when they feel that they can't. If you want to have this prop to force your own kids to talk to you, then this is wrong. You should think about someone else's teen that can't go to their parents and how they might be at risk. The bigger picture is what is ignored. Also all those other surrounding states have had an increase in abortions cause they travel in order not to tell a parent.
Get real. Californians aren't that backwards. You people really don't have a clue about real life if you think every teen can safely tell her parents that she's pregnant. Some would rather commit suicide. And, for some, telling IS suicide.

And would if your parents refuse to let you get an abortion? Prop 4 is like letting your parents decide what do do with your body.

I'm completely against abortion but c'mon
teenagers are just going to end up doing idiotic things to get rid of their babies
girls are going to go to under ground, disgusting, unsanitary places to get abortions if we do this
i understand that voting yes should be the right decision, but either way, they'll make it happen
with parental consent or not
SUPAM0N3YY 3 years ago
Perhaps, but this Proposition wouldn't ban teen abortions. It would just inform a family member of the decision to abort.
Matt92126 3 years ago
but the reason why the clinics don't need parental consent is because kids get abortions so their parents don't know that they're pregnant/having sex
