I think Microsoft is a major reason why developers aren't taking key notice of the tools they have to offer because they keep releasing new directx builds. With XP. We had I think 3 or 4 revisions of DirectX9 and all were compatible with eachother (well shader mode 2 and 3.0 were different) but with DirectX 9, 10 and 11 being out within a few years and the fact they never took full advantage of games for windows really screwed things over for us. They claim piracy is the main reason but it isn't

@HardwareHank02 Well look at it from the otherside as well. Back when XP was the major thing, they were new to the console business and were dominantly defined by software in the PC industry. But now things have changed, and tech trends are moving faster meaning more compettion on the whole. They own a big stake in console business so if they start making games equally ubiquitous on PCs then there would be no reason to buy an XBOX. Its counter-productive to their business goals.

@VioletMould It wont happen, the obvious reason, the IP is owned by Sony and is developed by a first party developer. And as for the graphics, sure they could get a boost. However, with PC it's harder to develop games. There are thousands of different components combination and people have installes all kinds of junk on it. On consoles the hardware components are always the same, and because of that it's easier to optimize and squeeze every drop of power out of.

With consoles its a one-off kind of thing, where its because the components are the same that graphics capabilites are halted. We might see a PS3 hitting technological heights one year, but its going to stay like that for the next 5 - 10 years until next gen.. In just 1 year, let alone 5 - 10 years, computer technology reaches new heights. I know GT5 won't come out for the PC, but i wish it did :P

The PS3 is still at the moment the fastest console gaming system out there right now, and yet it would lose out to any $500 pc gaming system. My computer that i recently built for ~$1200 could handle 5 monitors, yet they need 5 PS3's just to handle each monitor. To put that into perspective, this means my computer is 5 times more powerful than a PS3. And i'm pretty sure 5 PS3s would cost more than $1200 :P...

@lolxjks I'll put up a test system for u: 5770 video card ($120), amd phenom II x4 640 processor ($100), quality grade motherboard ($100), case + power supply ($100), hard drive $30, remaining peripherals like keyboard, mouse, speakers, optical drive ($50). That pc i just described there is $500 and it plays ALL the most demanding PC games on high settings $600 - 800 = even better!. It is way way way more powerful than a PS3. My own PC is $1200 so its mid-high end, and yes it can handle....

@VioletMould Oh absolutely, technology is going crazy fast on computers, but that means developers will never be able to take full advantage of that technology either. A game takes several years to develop, and they can't keep up with the technology. With consoles they will improve over the years by making the code and engine more efficient. Look at the early games of PS2 compared to the late games, huge improvement. Same as we see on current consoles.

First it was UT 2004 that was having everyone trying to get their PCs to play it without difficulty; The PC game crysis that came out in 06 /07 (i think? around then) was the most graphically demanding game out there at that time- people were struggling to get their current pcs to play it respectably without having to upgrade their parts.

If it is just the PS3, the graphics and screen res has been downgraded severely (though that wouldnt make sense having 5 monitors)
