@Suyamu the point that being versatile in such a way is not a good idea has been proven by the development of mi28. and nor did the Ka series used it.
@Suyamu not fast enough, also, its engines suffer when it is fully loaded. the fact that USSR chose to develop Mi 28 and KA50 proves my previous point. Now the hind is being modernized mostly due to their limited funding. Dont get me wrong, I love the hind, the meanest looking gunship ever, but I just dont quite agree with the design concept.
Not fast enough? The Hind is one of the fastest combat helicopters ever build -in fact it's high speed is one of it's strengths and it's broken world record for rotary-wing speed twice.
After the appearance of the Hind the US has also been playing with configurations of the Blackhawk into a similar gunship + transport helicopter for special purpose tasks.
The hind is being modernized because there's still a demand for it.
New models have fixed landing gear and shorter stub-wings.
This has got to be the best chopper ever designed....seriously I can't think of any other to have such an impact besides the UH-1 in Vietnam. This was simply ahead of its time and wasn't til Apache many years later that it finally found a challenge. The Hind stil has plenty years left before being tucked away in the aviation hall of fame. Now this is what I call a war machine!!!
The only thing that lacks in this helicopter,wich has the Mi-28N rotor,could be the Arbalet mast mounted radar. If it have the rotor of Mi-28N,why couldn't have its radar ? Or,if wasn't possible to install the Arbalet radar,why don't try to install a mast mounted sight as seen on german MBB Bo-115 light attack helicopter or in EADS Tiger?
Mi-28N as a replacement to this monster has a bit of a different role. It is quieter, faster and more agile. May even also surprisingly have more firepower as well so an Mi-28 would have something like mast mounted sight and radar because of its unique ability. However the Hind is strictly a brutal tank killing machine. What it already posesses to track enemy units is more then enough. In fact the point of mounted mast is so the chopper can sit behind protection while stil tracking enemy.
@LeoAndRas All the stuff the Hind needs is in the nose. This helicopter is practically impossible to hide behind anything due to its size and soon as it tracks its prey it pulverizes it off the map. So I would think it would be impractical to waste money on mounting sights on top when there are better choppers for that such as Ka-50/52 and Mi-28 - nevermind the Kasatka Ka-60 when it comes into service.
@vodkasvictim i think the MI24 and the apache are not the same class. The hind is more a troop carrier, like the pave low. The apache is just a gunship isn't it?
@BeenuZz No the Hind is an attack Helicopter with transport capabilities. It has been used as a gunship and the pave low is a Combat Search and Rescue helicopter and the Black hawk is a transport heli.
@milkoyan Spare your time dont watch this stupid propaganda of Wings of the Red Star.At first they said is good and for the next 30-45 minutes its a western propaganda how misarble eastern technology is, they twist the facts to let look it like shit.
Mil Mi-24 is a T-72 battle tank that could fly.Mujihadeen and Nato military forces were afraid of the "Hind".Also,this copter has been in many American made movies,"Red Dawn"(1984),"Rambo 2"('85),etc.
@TheXtro101 Rambo II used a French puma with winglets stuck on the fuselage to make it look Hind-ish. I thought it was a genuine Hind-A myself for the longest time, thoz...
Oh,another movie I had forgot to put down,"Red Scorpion"(1988,starring actor Dolph Lundgren,who was in this past Summer's movie with Sylvester Stallone,"The Expendables").
Nice narrator voice I respect when discovery was like this instead just propaganda...THNK U VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO

I always liked the look of the Hind-A, with its flight deck nose - but the Hind-D does look seriously bad-ass.

APC+Tank...not a good concept
Aresholewins 1 year ago
@Aresholewins
APC+Tank, huh?
Israel's Merkava tanks can carry a few extra people in the back.
I think they're quite good tanks too.
Suyamu 10 months ago
@Suyamu then why do they develop APC modified from T55 separately?
Aresholewins 10 months ago
@Aresholewins
Neither hind nor merkava were meant to replace dedicated transporters.
The Mi-8 is suitable for that role.
It adds to the versatility of the system though if it has the capability to carry troops if necessary.

Aresholewins 10 months ago
@Aresholewins
NOT being versatile is good?
you've gotta explain that one to me.
Mi-28 has a small cargo compartment by the way - it can carry spare parts, tools or people if necessary.
Kamov's tender for Hind's replacement was a different kind of bird altogether - they were designed as single seater in the first place.
Suyamu 10 months ago
@Suyamu you can only focus on sth to get the most out of it or be mediocre and multinational.
Aresholewins 10 months ago
@Aresholewins
multinational? :)
And what exactly is wrong with the hind?
It's done it's job very well and proved to be a successful design.
It's still being modernized and exported to this day.
