Same. I'm not a fan of 3DD (not that I dislike them, I just don't listen to much music from this decade), but I heard this cover on a radio station a few years ago and I thought this really did justice to the original. Both are great versions.
Got to say they did a pretty good job with this. The lead guitarist impressed me especially since the original is played by 3 guitarist playing lead at different points of the song he had to play all lead parts by himself

@66690bak well one of they're guitar players who had a serious problem with drugs and alcohol got himself into a drunk driving accident, ronnie and allen wrote this song as kind of a warning against impaired driving, and they also talk about alot of the drugs that members in the band were doing, when they say "That Smell" they're refering to the distinct smell that fills the air when your cooking up heroin. this song is almost like my life story shortened into one song
This seems to be a pretty good combination of being very true to the original version of the song while tweaking it up and giving it some new zip. The old solos are done well but the new vocals kinda wrap around the song giving it a lot of new life. I guess I am saying that the vocal approach is uniquely 3 Doors Down. I think Skynyrd probably loves the guitar solos. I wonder if the current band can jam it this well. I doubt it. Rest in peace RVZ, AC, BP, SG, LW, etc.

its not about copying Lynyrd Skynyrd or trying to walk in their boots. Those are some big boots to fill, its about playing a song they felt good about playing just like Jimi Hendrix felt good about All Along the Watchtower. Personally I have seen a lot of cover bands slaughter this so hearing 3 Doors Down play it is rather enlightening. No they're not Lynyrd Skynyrd but who is? Skynyrd is the greatest band of all time! Nice work on the cover, much better than Metallica's version of Tuesdays Gone and almost as good as Shinedown's version of Simple Man.
Great song and 3 Doors Down did a great job singing it but, nothing beats the original. No offense to the singer but his voice is too "young" sounding.

Fantastic cover. However the original closing guitar solo is sadly missing the second guitar (at 4:48 in the song). In the original Skynyrd version the two solos going on simultainously is beyond phenomenal!
I actually don't like this version at all. The original is the best, and while this replication had good intentions, I think it is a complete butchery of the original. That's just my opinion though.

Wow what a cover. I would never have believed that I would just love a cover of my favorite song from my favorite album (street survivors) and from my favorite band but this is great with great crunching rythum guitar. I also love singing and the way he drops the note when he sings the word "sme..ell" I hope these boys tour Australia and play this

Honestly this sounds like shit compared to Skynyrd, I know people are gonna disagree but I just think it sounds like shit! The bands of today just don't have the energy or the drive and don't put too much effort into their music...

Fantastic cover. However the original closing guitar solo is sadly missing the second guitar (at 4:48 in the song). In the original Skynyrd version the two solos going on simultainously is beyond phenomenal!

I actually don't like this version at all. The original is the best, and while this replication had good intentions, I think it is a complete butchery of the original. That's just my opinion though.

I was in colo. in 1974 , my friends out there havent herd of skinner when they 1st herd sweet home alabama they ask me who it was I said its a band out of the south (fla) and me being from nc. is aid they just hit big youll be hearing more. but I think 3 doors down gave them the proper respect they highly deserved.. it tackes balls to play songs like that and do justice thumbs up 3dd

Im in a local cover band and all of you who put 3 doors down for covering this song forget to think that maybe they are paying respect to a band that was a major influence to them we all know there is only one lynard skynard I think they do a great job on it and to those same people what music have you written lately??

Most bands do a cover or two to tip their hat to those that influenced them (the Stones, Skynyrd, Beatles, Zeppelin all did it) It is indeed paying respect and playing the songs that are in your soul. if I was a mega rock star, I would be playin this song and loving doing it and spreading the Skynyrd word by doing it! Also, this is just an awsome version of my favorite song from my favorite band!
