  • excellent photo montage to an awesome song by a great Ameican band. Was so fortunate to see them live twice. The song title is sadly prophetic as to the current events happening in the world but there are so many great teenage memories tied to this song for me I have to laugh and remember the good times. A heartfelt Thank you.

  • You're welcome and thanks for the kind words!

  • Love this song,, kind of puts into words where the band was heading at that time,, Danny Joe, RIP,, you were taken too soon

  • There's a soothing, mystical beauty in this song..... Like @toymagenta said, thise version has a hopefulness to it.

  • love this song!

  • Both versions are good but the Allman version is way too dark for me. Molly Hatchet has more of a hopeful upbeat tp it. Met this group in the 80's. Fun guys. love barbeque.

  • @toymagenta Yea this really captures that 70s sound!

  • gotta love the 7min. songs

  • these guys gotta have the best album covert art than any band

  • You people don't have jobs. I can tell.

  • one of the best covers ever

  • actually the allman brothers are the ones that covered the song... i'm pretty sure that molly hatchet wrote it, but i might be wrong...

  • It was written by Greg Allman for the Allman Brothers 1st album in 1969. It was later covered by Molly Hatchet and Buddy Miles, both different and excellent versions as well!

  • I saw them many years ago in Atlanta

Great band and show, they were with Atlanta Rythem Section

  • I dig this groovy song takes me back to great times.im on here alot....ty

  • You're welcome.

  • Tommy joe collette....in loving memory .

  • Southern men like Lynrd Skynrd, who you kind of referenced, would have never covered that song.Flirtin with Disaster was the best song they ever did,but I like Last Ride and Whiskey Man and some of their other stuff. They went through alot of changes, tragic and self inflicted. When they played the music they were meant to play, they truly were one of the best bands around. They also put out alot of junk.Anyone who's listened to them over the last 30+years would know that and be MAN enough to admit it

  • Just remember the Whippin Post......Had a blast.......

  • Take me back to the bar days.....awsum band

  • greatest of all time..period ...if you dont like it take yer yankee ass on down the road cuz a southern man dont need you around anyhow

  • Are you kidding me? This version of that beautiful sucksdass Stiff, choppy, absolutely no groove, which this song was all about.I'm aiting for John Phillip Sousa to ride up and do a trombone solo.Worst rendition of this song I've ever almost heard,it was to lame to finish

  • So I take it that you don't like this version?

  • @rickyon If you've heard even the recent version by the Allman Bros, withTrucks, you wouldn't either

  • I don't have to hear the recent version of anything to make a judgement on this or any other song. I judge each song by itself on it's merits and even though you have the right to your own opinion the statements that you've made about this version are just ridiculous. Why do you insist on making this a competition? Whether you like this band, this style of music or even this particular version of this song, your observations are laughable.

  • rickyon It's not a competition,it's the truth. If you're going to make money playing music AND cover a beautiful classic like this, you'd better do a good job at it and be prepared for criticism and comparison to the original if you dont These guys should have known better,as musicians, not to cover this song.Their version is horrible,it absolutley missed and defaced a beautiful song.It has no merit and IMO was a selfish reason to satisfy some egos with a few very mediocre guitar solos

  • That is your opinion and you have the right to it.You are in a small minority and for you to tell anyone that they should know better than to cover ANY song is ridiculous! Songs have been covered since the beginning of music. Those doing the covering take license, small and large and are paying tribute. There are many times more covers as far as performing is concerned than originals. This is a totally different style from the original and stands by itself as a creative cover!

  • @rickyon so I guess your a big fan of Bill Shatner's version of Iron Man and DuranDuran's thrilling cover of 911 is a joke.Bullshit, pure frikking bullshit.A true muscian would know better and MH should have KNOWN BETTER. How many versions of Machine Gun are out there ricky. Real musicians know wha comes with covering classics. They should have listened to it in the studio and gave the original the tribute of a big hell no.It's stiff, giddyup crap. And if you like this, you didn't get the original

  • You seem to have an obsession with this "cover". For such a lame, choppy, stiff, suck ass,no groove song you are spending a lot of time coming back over and over again to make your feelings known. Do you hurriedly mute the volume each time so you don't have to listen to it each time. I think you secretly like it and keeping up this running babble gives you an excuse to listen to it again. Look at the view count. Look at the likes and dislikes. 'Nuff said.

  • @rickyon you replied to me,friendo.I just gave you the courtesy of a response, just like now.And just for kicks, shouldn't use view counts to back up your point. The view count for Capt.Kirk's version of Iron Man will break your heart.Nuff said said

  • You commented on my post, friendo. I gave you the courtesy of a responce, just like now. In this instance view count backs up my point perfectly. The view count on Capt. Kirk or any other video has nothing to do with it. My theory may be correct. Enjoy this post once again Friendo!

  • @rickyon Actually, after listening to it for the 10th time responding to your posts,I changed my mind,I like it.gotta turn it up though.Nice talkin with ya pal

  • They're coming to take me away ha-ha he-he ho-he

To the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time

And I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and

They're coming to take me away ha-ha!!!!!

Welcome to the land where almost all music is appreciated (Almost!)

  • @rickyon ok who let Napoleon xiv in the door their coming to take me away ha ha

  • @oneeye4263 thought this was southern fried boogie

  • Not trying to beat a dead horse but what do you think of Buddy Miles' version?

  • @rickyon,You'll never change my mind on Buddy Miles, ricky.Dude,c'mon listen to what he does on Band of Gypsys, especially his singing in the middle of Who Knows.cringe

  • I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm just asking what you think of it. I've been a professional drummer for 35 years. Actually I retired 22 years ago and recently came out of retirement.Having been away for so long has given me a new appreciation for all styles of music and I am enjoying everything again (except some disco, rap and hip-hop). I had to get rid of the boredom and the prejudices I had formed and now I can "Feel" the music again! It's exhilarating!

  • @rickyon well we have something in common.I paid the bills playing music for about 10 years.I work in the studio and some on call gigs, but haven't played professionally for years.Buddy's version is cool, perfect for that era, throw in a litte horn, still an oversinging lousy drummer, though.I just dont feel the choppy staccato interpretation that both he and MH did, though. It's a groove song,IMO,one that flows smoothly, without the brrrump uh bump.

  • @rickyon I've always loved the drums, ricky,Rich,Cobham,Bonham,Shrieve(sp?)Mitchel,Moon,Elvin Jones,Murray.Used to practice singing Trane's solos and Ella's too.Ella was an unbelievable singer, she sang better sax solos than most of the sax players she sang with

  • @rickyon,I almost played this album completely thin, learning the songs and the solos.cousin Mary is my favorite of all.Art Taylor played drums on this album, but I liked Jones' style better. I figured if I could sing this I could sing anything and I was right

  • You sound as if you're a purist which is fine but there are many different tastes in the world. Many people such as myself appreciate variations on a theme with no bounds. Some are going to be terrible. Most, probably, but I never discount one cover because it can't stand up to the original. To me they each stand alone. My bands over the years took great delight in taking music we loved and adding a new twist or even changing the whole song. Most people enjoyed them. Some did not.

  • @heavynumbertaco Preach on bro..... the original Allman Brothers version just... gave me chills... the dynamics.... the rhythm. I too played pro for about 8 years and this song was always one of my faves, and a crowd pleaser too!

  • @heavynumbertaco YOU ARE AN IDIOT

  • @TLSPSHEL2 and you like this stiff, chunky absolutely worthless version of this song.what's that make you?

  • @heavynumbertaco Learn how to Spell Stupid, Then know what you are talkin about when you TRY to speak..................

  • @tandav2400 Oh looky. My 3rd grade teacher is still correcting my essays, must have nailed tenure, yeah.YTF should I? You understood what I said, didn't you? You fucking graded it.But one thing for sure,I know more about this than you'd know even if you died and came back as me.Bank

  • i party w jake brown danny son. check out sweet georgia brown.

  • I will catch a lot of flack for this but this is the best fucking song that they ever did. i'm sorry but the allman brothers(original version) pales compared to this version.

  • Is this an exclusively Southern sentiment?

    Do Yankees feel like this?

Do they have dreams they're never going to see?

  • @BOTTSRGEDDON

yes we do. i'm from not to north of the meson/dison line, but I grew up in Missouri and I have to say, that good music knows no boundries.

  • Wow, I'm hearing this for the very first time, and really digging it...why is "Flirting With Disaster" more over-referenced than this?

  • molly hatchet did this song justice. allman who? the what brothers?

  • Saw this band open for Atlanta Rhythm Section in Nashville in about 1980 or so - they so kicked some ass! Loved the four front guitar with solos and never forget the way they moved back and forth thru the whole thing!

  • This version is better than the Allman Bros. version. It's like Fleetwood Mac's version of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN, Santana did it better. Billy Joels version of SHAMELESS, Garth Brooks did it better. Pat Travers's version of SNORTIN' WHISKEY is great, but I do it better. hahaha

  • long live Danny Jo Brown ,he is best

  • Just an excellent cover version.......probably even like it more than the original!

  • @jeffthrow6892

We can agree to disagree, that's okay. I am a total Peach-Head; Met Gregg Allman in 2006 + he signed the CD Liner Notes of Allman Brothers Band: S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook_State University of New York_which included "Dreams": 19 minutes, 30 seconds. While I LOVE Molly Hatchet's version, which they recorded because of their appreciation / homage of ABB, you cannot dismiss the Slide Guitar of Duane Allman. Thanks, Jim in Phoenx, AZ; via: Long Island, N.Y.; "Eat a Peach for Peace".

  • @parker6389 -- Hey.....you don't have to sell me on the excellence of The Allman Brothers, I'm a big fan of them as well! I love the "Eat A Peach" album to death, for example. I would NEVER, as you put it, "dismiss the slide guitar of Duane Allman". I just think that Molly Hatchet did an amazing job with this song, which you seem to agree with, right??

  • @jeffthrow6892

We agree; thanks for the response ! FYI: In 1971; WPLJ Radio interviewed Duane Allman and they asked Duane, "What are you doing for the Revolution?". Duane replied, " I'm going to ' Eat A Peach For Peace' ".

That is where "Eat A Peach" came from. So, in this current disasterous economy, etc., let us BOTH "Eat A Peach For Peace". G-d Bless, Jim, Phoenix, AZ.

  • Quite different from The Allman Brothers version but I love them both.

  • turn it up!! if its too loud ur too old .....mann

  • Blows the A.B.B.'s version out of the water.

  • I'm a Canadian gal who grew up in Florida. Graduated from high school in FL in '83. These MOFOs kick ass and this song brings back some amazing memories. Or not. I can't remember. LOL

  • @BlondieGrrl65 . 83 rocks. Had the best of both sides of the rock

  • when it gets to the part at the end where danny is saying "i got dreams, i got my dreams to remember" and then in the back ground theres kind of a light humming...that really gets to me. this some is timeless, a classic, and the solo just might be the best ever

  • i love this cover..I love the original..love love love

  • One of my favorite songs!! HTH could 6 people dislike such greatness??

  • YES!!!!! My favorite Hatchet song

  • The actual title tgo the original Allman Bros Band tune is Dreams. Molly hatchet expanded it.

  • This will never go out of style. Check in with me in my 80's, I will still love!!!

  • Molly Hatchet.....Seen em in thier heyday..... loved it......Awesome cover of this AB's song

  • One of the most UNDERRATED bands ever.

  • My hair is standing on end! Love it!

  • Molly Hatchet totally ROCKS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Knew this from the beginning...I thought it was a Hatchet song.....and I'm an old dude....love this version as a rock-n-roll anthemn.....everything about it is tight and pretty damn great. Nothing like seeing it performed live, though. I have 4 concerts with them- 3 with Danny Joe and the other with the imposter named Jamie Farr. Farr never could hold a candle to Danny, even though Farr thought he was beatin' the odds...RIP Danny - you'll always be the soul of this band!

  • @hawk1866 That's amazing. I was not aware that Jamie Farr, the beloved Corporal Klinger of M*A*S*H fame, had replaced Danny Joe Brown in Molly Hatchet. When you saw him in concert was he wearing a dress or a Toledo Mudhens jersey?

  • Over produced - in my uneducated opinion. Sounds way to slick for me. I prefer a cleaned up LIVE version. All of my favorite albums are LIVE - Allman Bros-Live at the Filmore, Van Morrison, Little Feat, Goose Creek Symphony, Leon Russell, Los Lobos, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, John Prine, John Hiatt, etc. I realize nobody cares what I like lololololol is Danny Joe Brown still alive? Any original members still touring as Molly Hatchet?

  • I heard this version of the song before I ever heard the Allman Brothers version, and Molly Hatchet doesn't have to apologize to anyone for their version of this song!

  • Comment removed

  • PUT SOME GOOD HEAD PHONES ON TO REALLY APPRECIATE THIS TUNE!!!!! EFFIN AWESOME

  • I saw Molly Hatchet in 1981 on their "Beatin' The Odds" tour. I was expecting a rather mundane performance by some southern rock band. HOLY SHIT, was I wrong. They were unbelievable !!!! I will never forget it !!!

  • I won a freaking air quitar contest to this songs lead!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up and smell the frickin' beer!!!!

  • the differennt feel is the guitar solo. this is different than the allman brothers. It is all about the guitar.

  • This version of Dreams makes me feel so good!. That is anice way to put it. i have been in love with this version forever, since it came out. forgive me allman brothers fans but this is it! My brother was a guitarist so i hear his lead guitar every time i listen to this song

  • Just saw these guys at Sandusky Bike Week 2011...And still F-ing rocken. Ole dannys alittle heavier but still got his chops....Loved it!!!!!!!!

  • @bigbadputtytat I thought Danny Joe Brown died from complications due to being a diabetic?

  • @honestman43 Danny Joe Brown passed in 05' I believe, from kidney failure. He had a massive stroke while driving in 95' which was the beginning of the end for him. And yes, he was a diabetic that did not take care of himself until it was way too late. His last on stage performance was at his own benefit that many greats threw for him. The vid of that event is not hard to find here, as he belts out his final take of Flirtin' w disaster. RIP DJB

  • @bigbadputtytat Danny's dead, man

  • @bigbadputtytat Mr.Brown passed in 05'

  • Another great song that hardly gets played on radio anymore.

  • I saw molly hatchett in jacksonville florida in 79 play this piece of rock art and it was UNBIEVEABLE. Nothing like home town -ucking jamming!!!!!!!!!

  • You can't compare AllmanBrothers/Molly Hatchet. The 2 versions are so different.

I have both and what I can say is, I don't consider it my favorite Allmans song , I do think it's Hatchet's best song.

  • @hoss861 i totally agree. It brings out the guitar lover in me! I love this version even better than allman brothers. i will not take this back. Rick was a supreme guitar player and could do this in his sleep. What an awesome guitar solo!

  • i said this before. it got erased. this is awesome guitar solo. will never pick allman bros over molly hatchett for .this song. brother was a guitarist and could do this in his sleep. totally love the molly hatchett versionj

  • Agreed. Molly Hatchett does it better.

  • moilly hatchett has the best version. guitar solo is so real. i can see it.

  • true gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Totally blew me away when I first heard this back in '79.... an awesome track which I play to this day. This is a cover okay... but a bloody great cover, which Molly Hatchet placed their own stamp on... can't deny them that. They played a great version of it live at Reading in '79, indeed they were one of the best bands on the stage that weekend. Thanks for the upload... great memories.

  • You're welcome!

  • @Braveshell yes, they really made this song there own, such a moving song, drum beats are awesome

  • @Braveshell YES, I agree. I like the Molly Hatchet version much better that the Allman Brother version. or any other for that matter.

  • @Braveshell don't get anybetter ?

  • @Braveshell I play this as well. It's a fun tune to warm up and shred on. Met Danny Joe and Duane way back when Stranger was opening for them. Awesome guys, man!!

  • THESE GUY'S WERE FU#@%^ FANTASTIC....HANDS DOWN!!!!!!

  • This sounds like it's from the original, non-remastered CD. Better sound. I don't trust buying remasters anymore. Too-loud and compressed. Fatiguing to the ears. The old '80's CD's were warm and smooth with zero fatigue.

  • It is.

  • @gangtwanger dude you sound like one of those anal-retentive LP freaks...with CD's lmao

  • @gangtwanger CD's didn't come out until the 90's.

  • @Yestrooper1 Then what were those shiny little discs I was playing in my CD player back in 1985?

  • @Yestrooper1 I bought a single disk player by Technics at the consumer electronics show in Chicago in 1981. Now theyare just about history.

  • @Yestrooper1 Bullshit, i got my CD player in 1987 and they had been out for a couple of years by then. Granted they were super expensive that's why I waited till 87 to get one and only paid $150 bucks for a single disk player but they WERE out. You must be young and not old enough to know but I was there lived and breathed it, LOL.

  • @gangtwanger It is excellent in it's own newer way just as the Allman Brother's original was excellent for 1969 period style.

  • @gangtwanger Better yet, try 70's vinyl for warmth.

  • Here's a crazy thought: I like BOTH versions...... Just the same way I like Joe Cocker's version of the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends" or his version of Traffic's "Feelin' Alright?" (I even like Dave Mason's funky live version of the Traffic tune, which he wrote). What's wrong with having more than one version of a great song? Take Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"..... There are at least 4 different well-known versions of that song - I like 3 of them. Nothing wrong with it.

  • Amen! I like all 3 versions of this song (that I know of) and they all have different feels. Some people just need Ridlin or a chill pill or sumpin!

  • @rickyon Hey, these guys SERIOUSLY shouldn't take more medication...

they need to just open their minds. I really hate some covers, as well as some movie re-makes. However, some of 'em are just better, (or different enough to stand out) and my son once told me tthat remakes (covers) are a tribute to the original band. Truly, I'm sure that some just knew (or thought) that they could improve it, but the thought stuck in my brain.) I LOVE THIS VERSION OF THIS SONG!

  • @rickyon Buddy Miles version is pretty damn good.

  • Agreed!

  • @gangtwanger AMEN

  • As much as I like the Allman Bros Band, This is the better version of Gregg Allman's Dreams, I'll never see. The reason I say this, is when this song was first out, Our band played this at Wilson's in Gary six Nights a week. This song always rocked the place! I guess it was more enjoyable to play than the 3 - 4- time, Allman Bros version....

  • Nobody can touch Duane Allman. I like the guitar jam but its so Skynard and Hatchet sounding. If your going to cover a song do it right or dont do it at all

  • It's so Hatchet sounding! I wonder why that is? There are 2 well known covers of the original of this song and they (included with the original) have very different feels. They all also were all done right so I don't know what you are talking about.

  • @rickyon Why would you want the song to be different? Its perfect the way it was but Hatchet had to fuck it up and make it sounds like swamp shit instead of a tribute

  • Variety is the spice of life. Many huge, masterpiece releases are covers of songs that sound completely different than the original. I will repeat to you what I said to someone earlier, you are in a very small minority. Take a look at the # of views! Take a look at the likes and dislikes! To each his own and I respect your right to not like this but to spend your time commenting in such a harsh manner instead of moving on to something that you do like doesn't make any sense to me!

  • My favorite southern rock band hands down.

  • molly hatchet was my very first concert i ever went to and still my favorite band.REST IN PEACE DANNY JOE BROWN,i miss him every day

  • What's wrong with a cover? Historically, there are plenty of "great" songs that are covers. Think about Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower." They're both great and totally different. What about Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Hendrix's cover? I enjoy them all. Same with "Dreams I'll Never See!" Just a great song!

  • As the boys on "That Metal Show" WOULD SAY : Absolutely!

  • Rickyon...you rule!!!

Thanks again for the sharing of great music.

  • You're welcome!

  • Both versions are good, but I am partial to Hatchet's for some reason!

  • Because it ROCKS! the Allman Brothers has a bluesy/jazzy feel. The Buddy Miles version has a funky feel. The Hatchet version just plain ROCKS!

  • dont know why people criticise Hatchet's version of the Allman's classic..i say this version kicks ass & Molly Hatchet is one of the best southern rock bands ever!!..

  • @RICKYON......GOOD FUCKIN TUNE BRO,,THX MAN.......HEY FUCK ALL THESE PUNKS IN HERE TALKIN SHIT,,,,MOST OF EM CANT EVEN SCRATCH THIER OWN ASS RIGHT---FUCK ALL THESE LOSERS IN HERE MOLY HATCHET KICKS MOTHAFUCKIN ASS!!!!!THX AGAIN RICKYON...YOU ROCK BRO!!PEACE!

  • You're welcome.

  • I want to be a critic too...i like this song!!!

  • gregg Allaman another GREAT artist and his bro , awsom musitions

  • done like the live verson

  • circa 1979?

  • Never heard this extended version before. A little different from the original album version on vinyl.

  • holy shit...just enjoy ther friggin music

  • Amen.

  • this version is a COMPLETE rip off of the Buddy Miles cover of the song. good try though

  • You say "good try though" as if someone is trying to pull a fast one or as if you are clever. I assure you that neither is the case. First, it's a "cover". You do understand the meaning of that word right? Second, it's not a COMPLETE rip off because it has a different feel and emphasizes different instruments. It is an excellent southern rock flavored COVER of an ALLMAN BROTHERS song which others have covered as well. Good try though.

  • @rickyon HERE! HERE! That Littleriverband guy needs to be SLAPPED!

  • @cctheriverband

Wrong. This is a rearrangement of "Dreams" by the Allman Brothers

  • Totally agree that this was the best version of this epic piece. The Allman's clearly created the masterpiece, but this vision of the song took it to another level. Love the original, but this is a completely different vision for the song, took it a whole different direction which is no easy thing either. I played a lot of years in barbands w/o needing a day job & respect all working musicians. But I've never seen a bar band approach this, and a lot of them are still bar bands for a reason.

  • Totally agree that this was the best version of this epic piece. The Allman's clearly created the masterpiece, but this vision of the song took it to another level.

  • Wow this version actually sucks balls. How is this even comparable to the Allman Bros version. Duane shredding>this feigned attempt at a cover.

  • To the critics , I suppose that if you stay in a bar long enough anything sounds or looks good for that matter. Having seen them live in 78 and 80 I think I doubt that anyone could match the passion and intensity but hey I don't hang out in bars so I couldn't say.

  • Ahh i freakin love this song!!! i'm only 21 but i Grew up on molly skynyrd southern rock n some good old classic rock n roll. love this damn song! nobody knows how to write real music anymore!!!! damn hip hop and rap shit.

  • I really love this version and have ever since I first heard it in late 1978. Even though I was already a big Allman Brothers fan I had not heard their own version of "Dreams" before hearing Molly hatchett do it. The Molly Hatchett version is obviously heavily influenced by Buddy Miles' remake of the song on his 1970 album "Them Changes". Buddy also did a great rock/soul style medley of Gregg Allman's "Don't Keep Me Wondering" with "Midnight Rider".

  • Well There May be one small minor detail that you may want to consider though...The sound systems back in 1978 were not as modern as the ones they use today.. Those bar bands sound a LOT better thanks to the amazing band such as THIS one, who paved the way for ALL musicans and vocalists today.

  • Everybody's a critic including yourself and just like them you have a right to your own opinion but in this case I would say that you are in a small minority. I, amongst the many, am glad that they did this remake and I recognize good music for what it is.

  • @rickyon good for you ,proud of ya

  • @TheChristopherBryant Talkin' out yer ass bro!

  • i like allman brothers band version better in a sense because of duane allmans guitar playing on their take on this, what a man he was. R.I.P
