  • well, i bought two small baby res turtles before 2 days ago but i suprised that they didnt eat i gave the a mint leaf , dry shrimp but they didnt eat yet .. is it a big deal ?, im worreied..

one of them sleeps all day long .. :|

*should i keep them in a dark place if they want to sleep ? or it doesnt matter ?

    * how many times should i change there water ?

  • My 3 year old RES doesn't want to eat! She used to love the floating sticks, and shrimp. I fed her feeder fish like three times, and I am not sure if she became uninterested in the floating sticks or what because now she wouldn't eat them or the shrimp.

She also has a younger buddy that I bought recently, and the younger one seems to eat more.

    HELP!!!!

  • @temptationkillsz If there hasn't been a change in the water quality or temperature that might explain a change in appetite, you can continue offering some small amount of fish or crickets along with the floating sticks and chances are she will probably eventually come back to the sticks. (Jordan Patterson described some trouble he had with changing a RES's diet habits in "The Guide To Owning a Red-Eared Slider", and it just took time.)

  • @temptationkillsz In the book, Patterson tells a story of how this slider didn't want anything but crickets for a whole month and just ignored the sticks, so he stopped putting the sticks in and tried again two weeks later and that time, the RES ate some, and after two more weeks, started preferring them to the crickets. Point of the story: make sure she gets enough food, even if its not what you prefer, and give her time to come around.

  • @temptationkillsz once this happens with my turtle too .. try not to give her food for 2days and expose her to the sun more and feed her in the third day .. if she doesn't response too then perhaps she is sick

  • @jackjohnsoniv Hahahahahah awwwe somebody's annoyed :)

  • How old can they be to have babies ????

  • how long can a red eard slider survive without a basking area? i just got mine and we can't construct an out-of-water-area right away

  • @KingSuperFart Years. my sister has had hers for 3 years without a basking area..but unfortunately she is developing shell rot. so be sure to get a basking area as soon as possible..but you have a month or so

  • OMG My red ear slider fell down n abit of its skin on its head is torn that i see white parts and i tink i could see abit of blood too. Please HELP!! Tell me how i should care for it? Is this something minor? Will it get virus infection? n should i pour lesser water into its pond so to prevent water from touching its head? PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Mines hibernat and Didn't die

  • How do you handle them without them biting you? I rarely hold mine, unless for cleaning the tank out, and when i try to pick him up gently he hisses and tried to snap at me, i knew the risk of having one of these turtles, but i am scared with the hassle and i accidentally get bit, i will drop him, he reacts and "begs" for food when i have food but i dont understand how he recognises me but hates me :(

  • @zecrid ive been bitten by a res twice and trust me if it bites u, u dont have to worrie about dropping it u have to worrie about unlatching the jaws cause when they bite they hold on lol....im suprised urs is so agressive most are pretty calm turtles

  • she's cute! and pretty.

  • she looks like my turtle except about 5 times bigger!!

  • Red line along the side of their neck, huh? So that's where the teenage mutant ninja turtles have their red ninja-bandanna-mask-thingys from. Finally it all makes sense. Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, you are to clever for this world.

  • i have a question my read eared sliders wont eat there pellets no more they only like shrimps and other stuff is that bad ?? if so what to do i would appreciate any ones help thank you

  • @213Dekalb must be the temperature and other reasons If you feed your turtles with meat shrimps or worms all the time they will not accept other kind of food with a lower taste, like: vegetables and pellets they need eat veggetables when the are adult to prevent diseases on hes bones and shell just make sure the water are heat good enought and some ligthning uvb and heat lamps, Correct temperature makes them Very, Very Hungry and they will eat anything you give.

  • Okay good to know, thanks so much for the information!! :) i will go ahead and get myself a turtle :) and again thnx!

  • i use to have three i only had them for three years then they died

  • hi there just a question besides the expensive tank lightning heating etc.. does it cost a lot to feed and care for these turtles? i wanna know what i get into befor i buy it. i have a massive 100 gal tank and heating and uv light but no animal i got it from a friend who had a turtle in it that died when it was 31 yrs old :( anyways just wondering if its expensive to keep one?

  • @canababe25 Not expensive at all. In fact, the most expensive part of owning a RES is the tank and accessories (uv lighting, heater) which you already have. I feed mine Reptomin and he seems to enjoy it. You can find turlte food at any Walmart or pet store for that matter. Just make sure you get a good heater to keep the temp. at least 70 degrees farenheit. I have had mine for a little over 2 yrs now and he has grown at least 3.5 inches making him 7.5 inches in length.

  • how do i get my female red slider that big?!?!!? LOL

  • Where's the zombie kid?

  • @xdx82 kewl, I think my turtle might be female so I renamed her Bernette

  • @tbondful Same story with me I thought my turtle was a male too I had named it Shelldon but I renamed her shelly

  • @ramkissoonnn cool, hows shelly doing right now

  • @tbondful Great

  • @ramkissoonnn thats good to know

  • @ramkissoonnn thats very good

  • I have a r.e.s. That's about 3 quarters smaller than that one.

  • named mine pablo and hoze

  • STOP SAYING ACTUALLY EVERY SENTENCE.

  • does sunlight cure a soft shell syndrom on RES if you dont have any cuttlebone?

  • please tell me if I'm being stupid, because i probably am. i live in Bakersfield, and it gets over one hundred degrees every summer. i wanted to keep my new slider (when i get him/her) in an outside, caged off habitat. I'm digging a little pond to give him/her plenty of space. any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have two baby Red Eared Sliders named Gamera and Gapuko. If they grow this big, I don't know what to do!

  • @WaddleBuff

  • how come she couldn't show a boy red eared turtle

  • do you have to keep them in water because ive had a group of like 5 red sliders for 8 years in my back yard and my back yard has huge cement walls around it and alot of plants, they have babbies alot but ive only found three in 8 years because ussually my dogs kill the eggs or the truttes when they are babbies not that ive seen them but they kill anithing they can (Expet the adult turtles) one managed to get a hold of a bird.... well thats there instinct

  • my sister has a baby one. its pretty small, its like 2 inches in length. thing is it wont eat the food we bought it, what do the little ones eat? btw we've had it for about a day now.

  • @SH4D0WS74LK ...it can go awhile without food, it probably is just adjusting to the new environment its in...also they have to be in water to be able to eat. Since this post is two weeks old I hope your little guy is doing okay.

  • @jahlivejahlove turned out that was just the case! :D yeah, my sister and i feed it reptamin and we slice worms and throw it in the water. Kinda late but thanks for the response!

  • I have a question; I have a red eared slider, got him like 5 years now, but I notice that he doesnt have the red anemore, is that normal or is he sick or something?

  • @baratomic

sometimes, red earred slider males aren't as colourful anymore but that doesnt mean that they're sick. sometimes its genes (its parents might have been less on the colourful side, like my baby red earred slider, AJ).

  • Is it safe for red ear sliders to eat bugs?

    someone help plz.

  • @NguyenEmpir3 For sure I have one . she's 8 inches across and she loves grasshoppers, worms, fish, and even cherios

  • @ronofontario how about flies and roaches? o.O

  • Comment removed

  • i also have one..haha i have made him so big by eating lots of lizards from our backyard

  • Red Ear Slider turtles are great turtles for beginning keepers and turtle lovers. Considered throughout the world to be the most popular turtle for keepers, Red Ear Sliders are known for their sweet and interactive personalities.

They are a lot of fun to watch as they interact with each other and bask in their habitats. Basking is one of their favorite things to do, they are just beautiul =-)

  • @TheCarvingman Haha you said they are "sweet" and "interactive" LoL mine bites me all the time and hardly does anything. :p

  • @chesirecatlover mine too LOL

  • i have two red eared sliders, when i originaly got them they had a simple floating dock for basking. After a few months i replaced there dock with a pile of sheet rock but they havent basked in about two days, can someone please tell me why that is, thanks it would help alot

  • press 2 for erection

  • press 7 for chink

  • Akwlb, the black fungus stuff you see coming out of the tail and then go back in again are females. My female red ears used to do this. Till today I have not found out exactly what it is. I always assumed it is the red ear's period!

  • I'm so sad because my 6 years old turtle is dead already yesterday

  • @89valois

    RIP

  • Red Eared Sliders don´t iving just in the United States. They living all over the world.

And the woman in the video should be more carefull with the turtle and that the woman hold the leg of the turtle is horrible. My opinion to that. I have a red eared slider since 16 years.

  • NO FVCKING WAY! do they become so big? :O OMG thats great! ;D

  • do they go into hybernation even when there pets?

  • @thebeast2033 no, if you have a heat lamp, you won't have to worry about it.

  • @masonbaer1996 Thanks

  • Lady, that's not a good way to handle ninja.

  • Hi, I have a red eared slider but sometimes wonder why her color is very light green.. She's abaout 7-8 months old!

  • @beakarmela she might need more sunlight or to bask more often, sounds like thats the prob

  • How big is she?

  • Really?Red ear slider hibernate?Didnt know lols

  • i would licker her i mean tht lady haha

  • WHY DOES THAT TURTLE LET HER HOLD HER HAND T_T

  • is it possible that i could have mistaken death with hibernation?

  • @8ballsix27

Yes it is possible. My turtles basically slept through the whole winter. But they can be woken up and go back into hibernation.

If you touch and pull it (gently of course) and yet it still has no response, then he/she may be dead.

  • The shell loses color after having it for a long time. I had mines for over 10 years now. Thanks to this video I now realize that it must be a male because it has long nails and isn't as big

  • i speak macedonian my english is not very good i will wreat agen :

can i leave my red eared sliders outside all year round or will they hibernate when the temperature goes below zero ?

  • @TheGalic yes these go into hibernation, but i dont know about below freezing temperatures. though i leave my turtles outside during the winter in NEAR freezing temps and they're fine.

  • i want to asck : cen i keep my red eared sliders in my yard in my pond and did they cen seet there all year in all 4 years weders did they hibernite in winter and did they borow in the graund when out temperature is under zero cen they survive ?

  • @TheGalic vat the heel langwidge R U speeking?

  • It is some useful information, though I hate it that she sounds like she's talking to a mentally retarded

  • @Kerifyn its better

  • I have two turtles like that. How long does it take for them to grow that big??

  • @gavindaman02 i guess they grow about an inch a year ..but it takes them a very long time to grow big

  • @gavindaman02

If you have baby sliders, I would say in about 5 year's time they will be considerably larger. The one in the vid should be about 8 yrs + old. Let them bask more then they can grow bigger faster

  • what do I do if my female red-eared slider is bleeding through her tail??

  • Comment removed

  • @AngllShadowlady

Just cut it off man and put a little super glue on it.

  • We have the same turtle. 4 years old. Where do they lay their eggs? Mud or sand? :) We have two turtles. The other one is hiding for a month. We are not sure if it's female or male. Thank you. :)

  • @kellyamazing In captivity they are not used to lay eggs.

  • and the turtle is looks like he's saying "Can you just put me down lady so I can have lunch?"...lmao

  • i miss my red eared sliders. i had 2, boy's name was slash and the girl's name was jewel. my sister killed them, i diddnt talk 2 her 4 almost a mnth, we cool now tho

  • @DJCBone1 Like you can resist tat == Are u sure u didnt killed them and ur sister didnt tok to u til nw??

  • @NDPeepsable

nah she did it, but i really think it was both our faults, we shuda cooled out then talked about it nstead of bn angry, it was dumb, we let our anger get the best of us, won't happen again, i was just thinkin about it not 2 long ago. i took darn gud care of my turtles everyday, im gttn sum more, and an iguana, i want an aligator snapping turtle tho, she just mad cause they bit her, i told her about that

  • i heard the ninja turtles are box turtles, if this is so what type are they?

  • for some reason these turtles are my least favorite turtles. maybe because they're so popular as a turtle pet. I'm lookin to get a yellow bellied, painted, or a side neck.

  • @cartmanfan0316 Yellow bellys are great

  • so thats how big thay get

  • @MW2QuikScopes that's how small it gets.

  • mine is that size but its really aggresive and tries to bite and hiss at me

  • My red eared slider's name is Tortuga. I think he might actually be a she: His nails aren't long :(

  • why the hell would you get a res:/ ybs are much betterXD or map turtles or even musk turtles but resXD its stupid untill you got a huge pond or insanely large tank

  • holy crap thats BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIBGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • how do i get my turtle that big!?!!?!?

  • Nice turtle ^.^ <3<3 :))

  • haha i named mine squirtal too , but spell it different

  • looks like some of those scutes need to come off

  • @sickasso72 what are scutes? the scales?

  • My Red-Eared Slider just died 1 month ago... :( 3 years old!

  • your a shitty owner they can live up to 100 years adverg 20-40 years old

  • @Sevendogtags HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

  • @randomrazr Whats so funny about that?!! haa?! Moron! fuuucking idiot!!

  • @Sevendogtags ur turtle died which is funny

    u killed it !!!

  • @randomrazr I didn't kill it!

  • @Sevendogtags than how eles would it die? LOL

  • my 2 turtles are bigger than that, and they lay around 20 eggs each year :o

  • @YorchMex how do u make em big? my ffemale RES is 17 years !

  • @YorchMex mines a girl and hasnt layed anything and shes 17, that bad?

  • @randomrazr 17 years?? wow, mine is around 8-9 but well for the eggs, you need a male (obviously) and if you have a backyard I recommend you to release your turtles for around half day each day. One day the female will start digging everywhere and laying a lot of eggs. You dont have to worry about the eggs, but some raining day you will see a lot of turtles popping from the ground. It's really cool! (The sad part is that not every little turtle will make it)

  • @YorchMex my female RES never seen a male or any other turtle before lol.

is that prob why she has never layed eggs?

  • lolz

  • what the hell how do i get mine to get that big!?!?! LOL

  • i think i have a red eard slider but its redness is very faint its in the same place as any other red eard slider and its 2 years old, wat is he/she????

  • how long can it survive without food?????

  • @orthacanthus1234 a week

  • Also, looking at the front claws can assist you in telling tthe sex of a red ear slider turtle, the claws on a female would be short, the male res has very long claws. Of course if your husbandry is poor, then many things could interfer with how the turlte should and could look.

  • hello, i have 4 baby red eared turtles they are only about 2 inches. i was wondering how big of a cage i should purchase for my 4 turtles want to have on beige tank for all of them but watt is a reasonable size for all of them? i am now thinking the cage i have is way to small and watt should i put in it for the turtles to play with?! i need help please!

  • I have a problem... I fed my red eared sliders some fresh fish as a treat, but now they won't eat their pellets. Any suggestions as to what I could do to get them eating their pellets again?

  • @Wolfhound1995 Dont feed then anymore fish, only offer pellets and veggies, they will eat it, once they realize that's what they are getting, in other words they wont starve themselves if there isn't a health problem going on, and they are just being picky, it's called self preservation, and just like humans will eat what we get even if it's not are first gourmet choice lol. I dont liek feeding my turtle fish, I think the fish can carry to many diseases, and I also feel a high quality pellet-

  • @Wolfhound1995 also got cut off, a high quality pellet and greens is much better for them, and an occasional treat.

  • If you hold him up higher by the shoulders instead of his butt, he wouldn't fuss so much. I would fuss too if i was being grabbed by my ass.

  • my RES are still babies but iam worried about when they get older and able to mate,i like them but i dont think i can take care of so many turtles,i have a female and 2 males is there anything that can be done so they wont mate or fertilize the eggs? (btw nothing painful)

  • this video isnt very good , there are many other aspects for telling a turtles sex , if anybody needs help with there turtle or tank or anything ..

message me :) and i will help you out

  • @BIGGESTxxEMINEMxxFAN i need help for my turtle, i need to know if hes a male or female, and also he or she has been pooping stones

  • @iiRockkSkiinies

if your turtle is "pooping stones" then you must have gravel in the tank , gravel will kill your turtle if it doesnt get passed ..

you NEED to take the gravel out of the tank

and i carnt sex your turtle if you dont have a video or something ...
