I bought this dvd a few months ago and it is so much fun at parties and to listen and watch while doing all my other work. I saw them at House of Blues, Houston, this year and am always in awe, they get better with each year, like fine wine, and bring it like it has never been brought by any other band. I cannot tell you how much respect I have for them all and how many times they have lifted my sould and spirit when noone else could. I owe these guys!!
One more post on this song: Back in 2001 (I think) I attended a Doobie Brothers Fan Club gathering in Los Gatos that coincided with three dates they were doing at the Mountain Winery. One night a bunch of us at the hotel sat around the pool playing DB songs, and this was one of them. I tackled the solos as best I could (passable, not perfect). Great time. One of the favorite 3 hours or so I've ever had. Anybody else that's watching this video involved in that? Good memories.
Awesome Doobies song. I've driven across those mountains from San Jose to Santa Cruz many times. That area was also the epicenter for the 1989 earthquake that shook up San Francisco pretty well.
@jhnstn - That's a unique custom guitar made from koa wood. IIRC I heard it was a gift Pat's wife had made for him. It's absolutely beautiful.
This song is amazing. And you know what's interesting to me is nobody covers it. I'd love to get the band I'm in to do it, but it's pretty tricky. Probably why none of us amateurs cover it.
Great memories of the 70's. Loma Prieta is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Feel like I'm running thru the redwood forests when I hear this one. Course I was one of the "flatlanders" from San Jose - where they sing about being stuck. Ahhh the Santa Cruz Mountains. This song captures something about them.
Their sound is like no other and they are pure entertainment. A totally original band who sound will never grow old. The only reason I see that they are not in the R&R Hall of Fame is because they can still entertain and draw a crowd unlike most in the hall.
You could pick 10 top Doob songs and have more This is in the top 5. Wolf Trap, Stampede,Vices,Streets and Captain & Me are classic albums. This band along with Feat and Lobos are national treasures. The R&R Hall Induction Committee is clueless. The Hall has no validity. Thanks cottonbuds for the post.
@Marckymarc71 I couldn't agree more. Jeff Baxter continues to be a powerhouse guitarist, adding him to this mix would be incendiary. These guys were the hottest thing around in the 70's and their music is just as relevant today.
lyrics: Well, a travelin' man's affliction makes it hard to settle down But I'm stuck here in the flatlands while my heart is homeward bound
Goin' back, I'm too tired to roam, Loma Prieta my mountain home On the hills above Santa Cruz, to the place where I spent my youth
Well it was Neal Cassady that started me to travelin' All the stories that were told, I believed them every one, And it's a windin' road I'm on you understand, And no time to worry 'bout tomorrow when you're followin' the sun...
that is so good!

Skylark. Right now John Cowan is filling in for him, on tour and in concert circa 2009/10, 11 and 12.

@HoopUte My former band scorned this song. That's kind of when I decided I really didn't fit in with them.

Awesome vid and song. They are not in R&R hall of fame because it;'s a FKN joke. They put crap like Micheal Jackson in there

I think if Skunk were up there with Simmons, Johnston and McFee the stage would collapse under the weight of all that guitar talent.

I'm surprised they do this song so well live. I think the studio version uses 5, 289 guitars!
