I am gay and am registered as republican. I believe that republicans have superior fiscal policy and that, in most cases, an elected official's ability to affect change in fiscal policy is more important that an elected official's ability to affect changes in social policy. I have never agreed with the republican's views on social policy.  If the libertarian party were a true contender in elections, I would vote for them, but, since they are not, I see voting republican as my best alternative.
