AP is very good, and sounds very similar to Perry...but will never out do him..perry was simply better..and IMO this band should not be back together without him.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not even a Journey fan. I read a great article about Arnel and came to YouTube to listen. He sounds great and the rags-to-riches story is inspiring. My opinion is that as long as everyone in the band gets along with him they will be successful albeit on a much smaller scale compared to long ago.
There are Super bowl champs & icon bands of the old & modern era. The great Steve Perry, J. Montana, etc., all had glory days. AS HUMANS, WE, all team &/or band members COME & GO. Let's be objective/realistic......Arnel is a wonderful vocalist, he is NOT Steve Perry in his prime but unfortunately that is what he is hired to be. Time will tell how he does. Journey unlike other great bands who have changed their frontman, have not changed to adapted to a new singer. They continue to look for Steve Perry clones,(high praise for SP). Until they try to redefine/invent themselves they will always invite the inevitable comparison. Good luck Arnel, you'll need it : )

I just watched the videos of Steve Perry singing with another band in 1994 posted by Rodrigo. I am surprised by his fans demanding that he rejoin journey when he has his own band, performs solo, which means he can call the shots. This is what you call progress, making it on your own like john lennon. So to all the Steve Perry fans, why dont you go to whatever concerts he gives with his own band where he is the king, instead of urging him to return to his old band where he is just a member?
Arnel is a new breath of fresh air for Journey. What a gifted vocalist. Neal Schon is very smart and business savvy, they will penetrate the ASIAN market EVEN more with Arnel as the lead singer. No, he left Journey because he had a 'Hip Ailment" that left him unable to tour. So he decided it would be best to quit, cause he loved to tour so much.... NOT because he is old.
just accept the fact that his old, that is why he got "Hip Ailment" or others say that he has "Acute gouty arthritis" which is really comes out when your old-er. But i bet you he could'nt sing his own songs at the same keys as the studio recording. I love SP Journey recording than live concert in the 80's.

... Case in point: SP can't sing Simple Mind's Don't You because of the wide vocal range requirement. SP can hit the high notes, no question about it, but I don't he can hit the lows. AP takes both with ease. All Journey frontmen were good in their own rights. I believe Chile responded well because it was Journey and not particulary AP.
SP, AP - both are great great! SteveA is fine, Deen is awesome and JSS is a man's man. I think the difference is in the "umph", or the power behind the voice. The Journey sound is in SP's natural range but it is in AP's wide vocal range. Hence, when AP tries to hit the high notes, he makes more effort to reach it and that full voice that comes out is backed by by tremendous lung power. It looks effortless, and that's waht make him so good ...
It's not about the race or colour, old or new. It's about the music, talent and passion. Arnel has it and then some (humility). Am a SP hardcore fan but Arnel deserves to be recognised. Not crazy about what Journey did to SP but I must commend them for embracing an unknown Asian singer. Well, thanks to Youtube for that!

Well I understand that not too many of you know CHile or Vina del Mar. So let me tell you that Vina del Mar is the bigger festival in Latin America. 8 night of music, big band had played there. The audience in there is call the Mostruo (monster) mean if they do not like something or do not accepted they will stop (I do not know how explane it)the opposite of cheering. So you have the idea.
Any way Journey real eat the monster, the moster was just a pussycat under the hand of Jounney.

Everybody thinks they can sing, but Arnel proved it. When I was his age, I composed and sang with a band. Now my advice to Pineda is save your tour money and get with a top songwriter so that you can produce original music. You need to understand that we can break into the int'l scene because of our God-given talent. We are among the best in billiards (Reyes, Pagulayan, etc), chess (Torre, So - 14 year old grandmaster) and boxing. We have Arnel, Charice, etc. We are not brown niggers - remember our Miss Universe and Miss International titleholders.
You can act as nigger or one with defeatist attitude, it is up to you. As for me, I work here in Houston as Systems Admin. I'll see Journey in July.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not even a Journey fan. I read a great article about Arnel and came to YouTube to listen. He sounds great and the rags-to-riches story is inspiring. My opinion is that as long as everyone in the band gets along with him they will be successful albeit on a much smaller scale compared to long ago.

I think Steve had the better range. He could get up to high F5's in full voice.This guy sounds like he has a hard time with the C#5's and B4's, but both are great singers.

Let's be objective/realistic......Arnel is a wonderful vocalist, he is NOT Steve Perry in his prime but unfortunately that is what he is hired to be. Time will tell how he does. Journey unlike other great bands who have changed their frontman, have not changed to adapted to a new singer. They continue to look for Steve Perry clones,(high praise for SP). Until they try to redefine/invent themselves they will always invite the inevitable comparison. Good luck Arnel, you'll need it : )

I just watched the videos of Steve Perry singing with another band in 1994 posted by Rodrigo. I am surprised by his fans demanding that he rejoin journey when he has his own band, performs solo, which means he can call the shots. This is what you call progress, making it on your own like john lennon. So to all the Steve Perry fans, why dont you go to whatever concerts he gives with his own band where he is the king, instead of urging him to return to his old band where he is just a member?

Arnel is a new breath of fresh air for Journey. What a gifted vocalist. Neal Schon is very smart and business savvy, they will penetrate the ASIAN market EVEN more with Arnel as the lead singer. Wake up America or the rest of the world !! Asia is where the ECONOMY is booming: China, India, Japan, Sinagpore, HK, need I say more?? BTW, to those that do not know, ENGLISH the second language (mandatory in school system) in the PHILIPPINES where Arnel is from! Arnel got the job because he is awesome.

No, he left Journey because he had a 'Hip Ailment" that left him unable to tour. So he decided it would be best to quit, cause he loved to tour so much.... NOT because he is old.

The audience nicknamed "Monster" have a reputation of being very unforgiving. If they don't like the show, they let it be known in no uncertain terms. The audience enjoyed Journey so much that they roared for them to return to the stage. This earned them not only the Silver Torch award, but also the Gold Torch award, and after Journey's third, and unplanned, encore, they earned the highest award this audience could give them, the Silver Seagull.

... Case in point: SP can't sing Simple Mind's Don't You because of the wide vocal range requirement. SP can hit the high notes, no question about it, but I don't he can hit the lows. AP takes both with ease. All Journey frontmen were good in their own rights. I believe Chile responded well because it was Journey and not particulary AP.

SP, AP - both are great great! SteveA is fine, Deen is awesome and JSS is a man's man. I think the difference is in the "umph", or the power behind the voice. The Journey sound is in SP's natural range but it is in AP's wide vocal range. Hence, when AP tries to hit the high notes, he makes more effort to reach it and that full voice that comes out is backed by by tremendous lung power. It looks effortless, and that's waht make him so good ...

It's not about the race or colour, old or new. It's about the music, talent and passion. Arnel has it and then some (humility). Am a SP hardcore fan but Arnel deserves to be recognised. Not crazy about what Journey did to SP but I must commend them for embracing an unknown Asian singer. Well, thanks to Youtube for that!

Well I understand that not too many of you know CHile or Vina del Mar. So let me tell you that Vina del Mar is the bigger festival in Latin America. 8 night of music, big band had played there. The audience in there is call the Mostruo (monster) mean if they do not like something or do not accepted they will stop (I do not know how explane it)the opposite of cheering. So you have the idea.
Any way Journey real eat the monster, the moster was just a pussycat under the hand of Jounney.

Since it is Arnel's first ever concert with the legendary JOURNEY and had to be in front of 15,000 screaming fans...it must have been nerve-wracking for him, so it is not an easy feat at all, but eventually he was able to control his nerves and won 2 special awards for himself for excellence in vocal and stage performance that same night!!!

Journey was awarded the "highest award" in the competition of the festival - the group received the LA GAVIOTA DE PLATA (The Gull of Silver) maximum award. Journey beat out the competition by a popular order of the public (in attendance and tv viewership); Earth, Wind & Fire was one of the opponents in the group category. Arnel Pineda, himself, won two awards, the prestigious Gold and a silver during the competition amongst vocalists on the second day of the Festival of the Vine of the Sea.

Everybody thinks they can sing, but Arnel proved it. When I was his age, I composed and sang with a band. Now my advice to Pineda is save your tour money and get with a top songwriter so that you can produce original music. The Journey revival thing will get old for you eventually, it did for Steve Perry, or else he would be there. BTW, the Destiny Codes say that you have the same #19-16 Cornerstones as does S.P.
