Squire stirs when Brown starts giving the right wing papers a going over, the spark of friendship is obvious. Mani is a brilliant bass player and he's a fucking nice guy. Reni? Really!??? Why is he there? He's a massive charmless nob.
@SpireaXY Come on mate you cant be serious, Reni is considered by many to be the best drummer of his generation and the "single most important drummer in UK indie circles"
It's ironic that the best indie band (Oasis - also Mancunian) break up, and then we are treated with the reformation of the one and only band that is even better. There is a god after all.
@mickgiles100 So you don't agree that the best indie band of all time is the smiths? even though they have been branded on many more than 1 occasion as the creators of indie music? the smiths started the scene cause they were the first indie ( as a genre ) band! not the roses, why? cause theyre not indie, ya fanny
@alphabetgreen1996 Noel being nominated for best male at the Brits and Sticky Finger or whatever Liam's band are called must be a right kick in the balls. For no one.
@asusfordnissansonyk2 This is the most they have ever said in a presser. They used to stare at their shoes and mumble. As for the ageing thing I think they are looking good for a group who have smoked more dope than Bob Marely.
@mctatson Good question...I heard Cressa had a bit of an issue with the booze, then got clean and found God. Typical Mancs tho, rip each other to bits in between one another but when someone from the outside comments, all super defensive.
I feel sorry for John, he just looks totally depressed, don't know if it is becuase he is getting fuck all input in the conference or its due to having little choice with the reunion, and that he regrets his decision,,,, luv ya Johnny!
The drummer needs to shut up he's an idiot man this is embarrassing they should quit before they start man they are so full of crap they should leave it alone its an embarrassing interview to watch.
'Nobody ever votes Tory'...No Ian, instead they vote 'New Labour' for the past 13 years - which has turned this country into a fucking cess pit. iI love how non-Tory voters think they're cool and naturally anti-authoritarian whilst voting for a party that has single handidly ruined this nation.
@SOS763 I think you're on the wrong youtube video mate. But whilst you're here, are you young enough that we can blame Labour for your inability to spell and use puctuation?
@spats67 I wrote my original rant on my phone. But I think in most cases grammar in a situation like this is irrelevant. I'm on the wrong video? I'm replying to a comment made by that overrated wanker, Ian Brown. A comment found via this interview. My point still stands and it always will. Please feel free to fuck off.
clashzeprosespistols - agree fully mate. Why the fuck shouldn't they cash in while they have the chance. The debut album sold millions of copies, but the spoils that should have made the band members very wealthy ,were basically stolen by Sivertone. And anything left over, was swiped by a certain thief manager, leaving the lads that wrote, recorded and performed the music with barely a bean, financially. So, tell me again, why the fuck SHOULDN'T they cash in now? Poetic justice, I think.
Can't understand the negative comments surrounding the reunion, anyone who knows the Roses story realises there was always unfinished business with them. The way it all fell apart with Silvertone saga, Reni/Squire leaving, Glasto 95 pullout, Reading 96 disaster, was a huge disappointment. And yes they will make millions, so what?! They didn't make as much as they should have done back in the day so why not cash in on the brilliance their songwriting deserves?!!
And there-in lies the reason why the music world has missed bands like the Stone Roses so much (Re- Ians comment to the Daily Mail stooge). Bet John Robb (Author/Musician) was laughing his cock off in the corner there. Hope they release some new material to coincide with the gigs to give this reunion some meaning. Reni looks and sounds well; and is probably the most underrated British musician of all time. Really hope it works out well for this important set of lads.
great to see the boys back together, for me they were the band who opened my mind to a whole world of music, although many other bands were doing a similar things nothing could eclipse the perfection of their debut. Their debut was probably british indie music's equivalent to Seattles and nirvanas nevermind.
3 of them look really happy and excited and one of them looks lost like he's thinking whether or not he's done the right thing but then again John has always had that sorta dour, quiet, sulky sorta look going way back to 89
Cant believe some of the comments here, firstly John doesnt get as involved but says his piece and is laughing with the others, Reni is hilarious here and dont take things too serious he might have some doubts cos he's been out the game so long but by June next yr he'll be class, Saying he's least important member is ridiculous. Roses are one band that all members are very important. They'll do an excellent tour and release a great album. Oasis are great, but this is about the Roses. Be positive
Im 15 and i think the music nowdays is shit and my dad brought me up listening to the stone roses and ive got my ticket for the friday and i can't fucking wait!
I tried for 2 hours but didn't get through..... 401 calls. Bah. Like many other I'm disappointed, but we'll be able to see them live somewhere else! Hopefully someone will use their brain and record/televise the gigs beyond people lifting up their iPads for fuzzy shots.
Long live the roses and all power to them. Fucking brilliant band who I'm glad to hear (even if they don't) is getting better press for Second Coming. They are looking in fine form. Hope like hell they make it back to Melbourne. I'll be there with bells, whistles, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Bravo lads!
I'm glad that Reni's back, when he left the new drummer was terrible, and a horrible guy from what I've heard from my dad who is their guitar technician.
I wish I could fly to Manchester next year and see them. If they actually do come to the US I hope they come at least to D.C. It would be better to see them in their hometown alas. This press conference was great. I did not know they were as sharp as they appear to be here. I did find Mani's accent a bit hard to follow. Nice to hear accents. Anyways I'm sure the new record will be good. I hope I get to see them this time 'round.
This is just so surreal, so can't wait!! Missed out seeing them when i was 15 and next year it will have been 16 years in waiting, This Is The One!!! This is a living resurrection. Get In!!!!
Reni is the man, good to have a perfectionist ! If he didnt want to be there he wouldn't have. They are playing together, all of em. Thats a looooong way and they have the right attitude. They have alot o wisdom I hope their music shows our/your negative attitudes up. And Ian & Mani have been playin' for all these years, im ecstatic and very optimistic!
I fucking loved the Roses and seen em live 3 times back in the day. In two minds about this though sadly. Reni has morphed into alan partridge. Top drummer though, suppose that's all that matters. Of course they are doing it for the money, naive to think otherwise. The Roses of old would have told the press to fuck right off, embarrassing seeing them chowing down on media cock like this. I wonder if the gig will be sponsored by Vodaphone and Coca Cola, and introduced by Noel fucking Edmonds.
Roses split because of contractual and legal bollocks , they changed the scene and made music exciting for the people of that time , they split and have got back together so instead of saying oh you can tell Reni and John have still got somert niggling , get real will ya , John was always quiet back in the day ( he's an artist ffs ) , how many artists do you know who are a press conference's dream like Ian Brown ?? , Music has been dead since Definately Maybe came out , ROLL ON HEATON PARK !
aye you are right reni had left by then , Crimson tonight is still a great Ep tho - " Second Coming I feel is underated and overlooked , hope they do some tracks off it when they do the gigs to do the album justice - I was blown away first time i heared " breaking in to heaven " in my opinion an underated classic -
Says here he did play on " Crimson tonight " on the song " daybreak " wiki may be wrong tho - Alan Wren " Reni " - I was listening to the roses on route to the job centre today , lost my job start of september - " I tell you its feckin uplifting knowing they are back in these tough economic times , great time to return !!!
OUCH-Reni's comment was really awkard with the rest of them,i think he was only taking the piss but they jumped on him "These two are still good but me and John are rusty" Mani "I dont think he's rusty" Ian "Me neither..(inaudiable)" OUCH What did Brown say to him? Seemed like Reni and Squire had the biggest beef with each other, something still simmering, work it out lads,
I think the 3 of them togeather , squire , reni and mani have got something no other band has got - I listened to the live Ep " Crimson tonight " and thought fuckin incredable , bass , guitar , drums - epic and ian singing was half decent as well and thats when they were on the out .in 1995-96
I think the 3 of them togeather , squire , reni and mani have got something no other band has got - I listened to the live Ep " Crison tonight " and thought fuckin incredable , bass , guitar , drums - epic and ian singing was half decent as well and thats when they were on the out .in 1995-96
@caribbean02 Reni wasn't playing on that show, he had left by then. But you're right, it is an amazing performance. It's the Feile one that Mani and the Irish journo refer to - this is why Reni looks a little sheepish at that moment. His last show i believe, was the Glasgow Green one which Mani refers to as their best ever.
Oasis three best songs which are pretty good are as good as Stone Roses worst three. Oasis have made so many bland crap tunes. Stone Roses are true seminal artists, they could have had the world if they had held it together.
@Roller981 Oasis are mediocre at best. Oasis tried to copy The Roses, in fact they copied many bands a bit too much. Oasis are just guys in a band, they are ok but completely over hyped. They just filled the gap. The Roses are artists.
@Darrenov one minute Oasis are a Beatles rip off band next its stone rose or The Who, make your minds up who they were trying to be! They always wore on their sleeve the bands they loved & weren't pretentious like others and they are what they are, like them or not they gave great songs and gigs over the 90s and beyond and brought a lot of happiness to people, why knock that! the artists they apparently ripped off most r friends with them, if ok for them then its should be ok with me or you!!
@TheMrmoonlight Oasis are an ok band. They have a few pretty good tunes, Live Forever is good, and a shed load of bland ones. Always went on about being the biggest band in the world, a crock of crap. They were the biggest band in the UK for about a year, thats it. The way they whine on about how good they are reminds me of that Lilly Allen. They should realise that they made good honest not classic seminal music and be happy about it. They were lucky the Roses imploded.
@Darrenov well that's your opinion, I beg to differ, they may have said all that stuff at one time but for goodness sake it was all just a laugh and a joke for the press etc, some people just don't know how to take things and they took it all very serious indeed, I didn't and don't still take anything they say as 100 percent serious its all just stageplay , I wouldn't judge unless I knew them personally. For me I am a fan for others who are not fine I don't care,
watch the Blackpool Empress Ballroom version of 'I am the Resurrection'....Reni's drumming is loose (whilst remaining absolutely solid) funky, totally spontaneous, incredibly fluid....it's pure magic... JS is trying to keep up but he cant so instead he's making random noises through a phaser pedal....watch that vid and tell me he was as good as Reni..
I'm not knocking John Squire, he was a very good guitarist... but Reni was on a completely different level to the rest of the band
Why didn't they gag Reni... what a boring miserable old bastard he turned into (or maybe he always was?). Looks like he's making his excuses already so he can jump ship at the first sign of it going wrong.
Im having one of the hardest years of my life and The Stone Roses Reunion has uplifted me to the fullest extent. I cried tears of joy yesterday, the best news ever. Im a music lover and couldnt live without my tunes, in heaven, THANK YOU, WE LOVE THE ROSES :)
@marymatilda78 Same here, have had the worse year of my life but this news has made me dead chuffed. I'm 25 now so missed the Roses origiannly but been bangin gon bout them for the last 6 years of my life, can't believe i'm gonna go see em live, can't wait!
@STFCstoneroses I never got the chance to see them either but I'm going to Manchester, I've loved them for years aswell, never thought I'd get to see them live, I'm mad for The Charlatans aswell and I shook Tims hand earlier in the year, got a big beautiful smile from him :) I seen Screamadelica Live in March, one of the best gigs I've ever been to. So in a mad way, one of the worst years, yet one of the best aswell. I'm chuffed your spirits were lifted, BRING IT ON :)
@marymatilda78 Nic eone! haha yeah same, seen the charlies about 6 times, me tim a few times aswell, top bloke! Legend seen scream aswell but have missed the screamadelica shows, might try and catch it up in edinbrugh new years eve .. roll on next summer :)
great to see them all a bit older and a bit wiser, back in the day a Roses press conference would have lasted a few minutes, they were notoriously difficult with the press, nearly always giving the full on Manc attitude. Love Reni and Ian's answers in this press conference, looking forward to hearing the new material.
I didn't think it was a good idea at first but can you imagine making such a seminal record and having no money to show for it? I was fortunate enough to be at Glasgow Green and Ian also said to a few of us at T in the Park that GG was the one time after Fools Gold they really hit top form live. They deserve to have something to show for the joy and optimism they brought.I'm old now but it doesn't seem that you can follow a band the way you could with them nowadays.Good luck to them.
Anyone criticisning anything to do with this press conference is a daft fucking idiot - it's four mates having a crack and being the same as they ever were; dry, witty, ballsy. Reni is key to this band, they were a living corpse when he left. A band with some proper character, thank fuck!
@GeorgeMadFerIt93 all Oasis did was IMITATE. Never did anything original, although they walked around with their heads so far up their asses they were too thick to realise imitating the best doesn't make you the best.
@TubbyBeaver Says you! I'm more interested in hearing what Reni has to say than your negative comments. What are you even on here for? Plenty of people seem to find him funny there e.g. @1:55 "70 new stuffs"
@jedeyewarrior I think he's very funny, what's cool in your book? Sitting indoors in a winter coat with shades on pretending you're Liam Gallagher? Reni's not pessimistic. As John says he's being bashful and taking the piss e.g. "if anyone buys a ticket".
@budgethemusicsponge No, Not at all...look at John Squire, that's cool. Reni just seems like he would rather be doing something else the way he's moaning about everything, maybe that's just the way he is though, like my mum! haha
Squire stirs when Brown starts giving the right wing papers a going over, the spark of friendship is obvious. Mani is a brilliant bass player and he's a fucking nice guy. Reni? Really!??? Why is he there? He's a massive charmless nob.

@mckeeclyde yeah watch the end bit too when reni puts his hands on ian john cant look at him
joydivision808 4 months ago
@mckeeclyde Don't know where you got that idea from as John plauded Reni by saying he definately still has it !

I think the 3 of them togeather , squire , reni and mani have got something no other band has got - I listened to the live Ep " Crimson tonight " and thought fuckin incredable , bass , guitar , drums - epic and ian singing was half decent as well and thats when they were on the out .in 1995-96
caribbean02 4 months ago
@caribbean02 Robbie Maddix played drums for their second coming tour including Feille Festival, a great drummer but not as funky and loose as Reni

God bless the Roses. Best band ever.
PakistaniCult 4 months ago
Oasis three best songs which are pretty good are as good as Stone Roses worst three. Oasis have made so many bland crap tunes. Stone Roses are true seminal artists, they could have had the world if they had held it together.
Darrenov 4 months ago
@Darrenov Oasis are a great band, but what have they got to do with this?
Roller981 4 months ago
@Roller981 Oasis are mediocre at best. Oasis tried to copy The Roses, in fact they copied many bands a bit too much. Oasis are just guys in a band, they are ok but completely over hyped. They just filled the gap. The Roses are artists.
Darrenov 4 months ago
@Darrenov Whatever people's opinions of Oasis are, I still don't see why they are being mentioned and discussed/ criticised on a Stone Roses video?
Roller981 4 months ago
@Darrenov one minute Oasis are a Beatles rip off band next its stone rose or The Who, make your minds up who they were trying to be! They always wore on their sleeve the bands they loved & weren't pretentious like others and they are what they are, like them or not they gave great songs and gigs over the 90s and beyond and brought a lot of happiness to people, why knock that! the artists they apparently ripped off most r friends with them, if ok for them then its should be ok with me or you!!
TheMrmoonlight 4 months ago
@TheMrmoonlight Oasis are an ok band. They have a few pretty good tunes, Live Forever is good, and a shed load of bland ones. Always went on about being the biggest band in the world, a crock of crap. They were the biggest band in the UK for about a year, thats it. The way they whine on about how good they are reminds me of that Lilly Allen. They should realise that they made good honest not classic seminal music and be happy about it. They were lucky the Roses imploded.
Darrenov 4 months ago
@Darrenov well that's your opinion, I beg to differ, they may have said all that stuff at one time but for goodness sake it was all just a laugh and a joke for the press etc, some people just don't know how to take things and they took it all very serious indeed, I didn't and don't still take anything they say as 100 percent serious its all just stageplay , I wouldn't judge unless I knew them personally. For me I am a fan for others who are not fine I don't care,
TheMrmoonlight 4 months ago
@TheMrmoonlight i agree and apart from the i am the walrus (cover) can anyone name a single song that ripped off the beatles??

John Squire was a very good technical guitarist and a decent songwriter.... but there was only 1 musical genius in the Stone Roses....
Reni...
hypnodelica 4 months ago 7
@hypnodelica Reni is/was amazing. But what puts him on a pedestal above Squire?
comanchio1976 4 months ago
@comanchio1976
watch the Blackpool Empress Ballroom version of 'I am the Resurrection'....Reni's drumming is loose (whilst remaining absolutely solid) funky, totally spontaneous, incredibly fluid....it's pure magic... JS is trying to keep up but he cant so instead he's making random noises through a phaser pedal....watch that vid and tell me he was as good as Reni..
I'm not knocking John Squire, he was a very good guitarist... but Reni was on a completely different level to the rest of the band
hypnodelica 4 months ago
Why didn't they gag Reni... what a boring miserable old bastard he turned into (or maybe he always was?). Looks like he's making his excuses already so he can jump ship at the first sign of it going wrong.

I'm chuffed your spirits were lifted, BRING IT ON :)

great to see them all a bit older and a bit wiser, back in the day a Roses press conference would have lasted a few minutes, they were notoriously difficult with the press, nearly always giving the full on Manc attitude.

They deserve to have something to show for the joy and optimism they brought.I'm old now but it doesn't seem that you can follow a band the way you could with them nowadays.Good luck to them.
paulie1vivaaxl 4 months ago
Anyone criticisning anything to do with this press conference is a daft fucking idiot - it's four mates having a crack and being the same as they ever were; dry, witty, ballsy. Reni is key to this band, they were a living corpse when he left. A band with some proper character, thank fuck!

But love The Stone Roses and Oasis just the same they're equally as good

@GeorgeMadFerIt93 all Oasis did was IMITATE. Never did anything original, although they walked around with their heads so far up their asses they were too thick to realise imitating the best doesn't make you the best.

@TubbyBeaver Says you! I'm more interested in hearing what Reni has to say than your negative comments. What are you even on here for? Plenty of people seem to find him funny there e.g. @1:55 "70 new stuffs"
budgethemusicsponge 4 months ago
Reni seems a bit pessimistic & Negative. I've never heard him speak before, thought he'd be cooler than that
jedeyewarrior 4 months ago
@jedeyewarrior I think he's very funny, what's cool in your book? Sitting indoors in a winter coat with shades on pretending you're Liam Gallagher? Reni's not pessimistic. As John says he's being bashful and taking the piss e.g. "if anyone buys a ticket".
budgethemusicsponge 4 months ago 2
@budgethemusicsponge No, Not at all...look at John Squire, that's cool. Reni just seems like he would rather be doing something else the way he's moaning about everything, maybe that's just the way he is though, like my mum! haha
