  • Hahaha I have the same brush

  • Hello, i was wondering whether you could make the baklava 4 days before a dinner party or whether you have to make it 1 day before or on the day.

  • @cmaskari1 you can makeit a week ahead :)

  • Hi how r u? i just have a quick question, my friend made Baklava and her Baklava was very wet and not crunchy at all. What do i do to prevent this from happeing?

  • @eawadallah09 follow my recipe at you'll have crunchy baklava

  • Can I make the syrup without the orange blossom water? Is there anything i can use to substitute?

  • @disciplerusher yes you can, add some orange peel and let it boil for 4 minutes

  • we have no rose or orange blossom water in this wealthy town of 30,000 since 30 years ago. falmouth, ma. [ summer pop. 60,000] yet a lot of places sell" baklava" that i wouldn`t feed my dog. the best baklava i may have ever had was in yarmouth, ma . in an irish restaurant.

  • @jonlarkster well please check out my store page on my site, I sell everything there and it's not expensive and you can used the rose and orange water for so many different desserts on my site :)

  • Ur hot

  • I goofed...I made this and misread the directions. Like Daski69 I poured the entire recipe for the simple syrup instead of using just one cup like in the baklava instructions and made them totally soggy. It was my first attempt at baklava and working with the phyllo. Time wasted all because I can't read lol. Maybe I will have better luck next time. Also, I am not a big fan of the Rose water, so maybe will leave it out and use only the Orange Blossom Water.

  • @kamsgrl yes you can definitely leave it out and use only orange water. Just check out the written recipe on my site :)

  • Hi, dede!! I've been waiting for you to post the step-by-step chocolate and walnuts baklava you uploaded on youtube but so far I've had no luck in finding it... I watched the video but I'm doubtful as to the exact amounts of nuts, sugar and cinnamon... Looking forward to yet another wonderful recipe! Thanks!! By the way, would you be inclined to tackle the SFOUF cake recipe soon? Love your site!!

  • @zittatube i promise it is coming up on my site by tomorrow :)

  • @dedemed THANK GOD!! And you, of course!! lol

  • @zittatube you are so welcome, thank you for your support :)

  • @zittatube it will be up this week :) and yes sfouf recipe is coming.

  • jah rasta blood clot man baklava is cool

  • they make baklavas 40 layers(really thin layers) in turkey of course that would take a whole day for a beginner but they just do it in 45 minutes or so

  • @bonibonyrrk you can make it with as many layers as you like, it's baklava either way, make it the way that makes you happy :)

  • hi from turkey

  • @macleod476 hello

  • Ok people, it's not baklava, it's Baklowa

  • @Andydag904 whatever way it is said, is is a great dessert!

  • @dedemed no doubt about it it's an awesome dessert

  • @Andydag904 baklowa what? :D

  • i love baklava but that shit gives you diabetes after one bite. shit is sweet as hell.

  • @mergim100 lol so true :)

  • @mergim100 The great thing about it though is that you can make it as sweet as you want! Some of the best baklava I've ever had was hardly sweet, it was just brushed with honey. It was more flaky and nutty.

  • @Lankycarrotboy very true, great insight :)

  • do you know if baklava is sometimes also made with animal products (eggs milk).....because i'm vegan and i sometimes see baklava at the meditaranian backeries and it looks so good

  • @37mamak well the only animal products would be in the butter that is used, you can try making it using my recipe and just replace the butter with vegetable oil or vegan butter :)

  • Thanks dedemed

  • If I can't find rose or orange water for the syrup is there somthing else I could use in the syurp for this recipy? Btw the finished product looks great!

  • @thedoomtime well if you don't have rose water or orange water then just add some orange zest to the syrup when boiling it :)

  • Thanks alot for the inspiration, however I tried using intuition... I baked the Baklava in the oven for some 45 minutes until it looked golden and scrumptious. Then I drenched the pastry in A LOT of sugar syrup. I let the dessert cool and soak for an hour until I tried a piece. It was a slushy and incoherent disaster that fell apart in my hand, in my furiosity I threw it all away... maybe I should've let the Baklava absorb all of the syrup or maybe I just put too much syrup on the pan? PLS HELP

  • @Daski69 well just try it my way and see if you like it :)

  • your hot

  • im eating baklava right now! :D greets from Serbia

  • @YTinjustice wow, thank you, I'm glad you like my recipes :)

  • @maezawi I hope that it turned out good :)

  • this is my favorite Mediterranean desert

  • @RoflmaoStudioz it is addicting!

  • I can't find the orange blossom water....do yu have to add it to the mixture because i said i can't find the ingredient. so do you have to have it for the syrup?

  • @explosive111 You don't have to add it if you can't find it. Or you can order it from my website. Try using another flavor like maple syrup or vanilla bean :)

  • This video is actually Baklava made simple, in my opinion. Excellent presentation !!! Thank you for sharing.

  • @mrcodexxx It is great :)

  • My daughter loves Baklava. Been looking for a simple recipe for it. Thanks for posting this video. I will be trying to make this for her.

  • nice kitchen

  • Thanks Dede, A lady friend of mine adores Baklava, and I wanted to make some for her. I could buy it, but its not the same really is it. Like everything, making it yourself is a bit more special. This recipe is fantastic. Thank you so much. Xx

  • @rcallan I hope your friend liked the recipe :)

  • She absolutely loved it. And as I hadn't made it before, I was quite pleased with myself too. Although working with the very delicate filo pastry, the secret is taking your time and handling it carefully. I'll be making it again. Thanks. Xx

    I didn't buy,,2 sheets!!!!

  • can you make it without nuts

  • yes, you can add cream cheese, chocolate, jam, anything you like :)

  • I've tried it once but it was already prepared at the store although good I wanted to make it homemade just like tortillas I've been making them myself for years now I'll never buy 'em in the store again. so I was looking for a good recipe online with good instructions then I watched this video and was really impressed.. you're really educational and professsional I've seen alot of your videos... keep it up! good job... and your Baklava looks very good, can't wait to make it.

  • thank you so much for this nice comment and for your support, I really appreciate it b/c it keeps me going on to make more videos or all to enjoy, happy cooking and check out my site as well when you get a chance :)

  • you showed us the simple ways!!! but show us how to make the sheet!!!!

  • honestly the sheets are very difficult to make b/c you have to get them rolled out super thin, you can use a pasta rolling machine for it but it is much easier to purchase the dough at the store :)

  • Pistachio is the best!

  • Hi, I tried to post before but I think my comment got deleted. You have fantastic videos, all of them. I want to try making Baklava and came to you tube looking for a how-to video. I have subscribed, I love your videos!

  • thanks for the comment, you can get the written version on my site :)

  • I'm Greek & have been selling my baklava through my father's restaurant for years. We also ship it out. I've been making baklava for about 16 years and have been tweaking the recipe for just as long. ;)

The key to my recipe is the honey. I've tried basically every single type of honey and it gives the baklava a completely different flavor. Also, how much you grind the walnuts (or whatever nuts), makes a huge difference.

You will know your baklava is perfect when it melts in your mouth! :)

  • Very true, different honey give it different flavor :)

  • can i prepare it and then bake it the next day???please help!!

  • Yes, you definitely can, just layer the baklava and cover it with saran wrap and store it in the refrigerator until the next day.

  • Ever try it by assembling the baklava with no butter, then pouring melted butter over the whole thing? Works just as well. If there's extra you drain it off at the end, the pour on your syrup.

  • good idea, i've never tried it this way but I'm sure it works well too. I will have to try it the next time :)

  • Thank you. I haven't tried it yet but I'm not intimidated anymore!

  • it never hurts to try, you can only learn :)

  • Happy Eid :)

  • nice lady with some wonderful cooking skills :)

  • Hi thanks a lot. Awesome video. I am watching from New Zealand and just wondering how do i make rolled baklava. Do i just roll it after buttering and putting the nuts etc.

  • You can buy the phyllo dough already rolled into sheets of thin dough and all you have to do it layer it with the butter, sugar and nuts. Check out my site for the written recipe.
