  • That's Barney Phillips as the interrogator.

  • Roger Grimsby had his Anchoring Career at KGO in the 1960's before ABC Sent him to WABC to team up with Bill Beutel. and then Jerry Jensen and Van Amburg took Roger's Spot

  • I grew up watching Jerry and Van Amburg bring us the Bay Area news on KGO. RIP Jerry.

  • I remember Jerry Jensen very fondly! Heeee's the one I remember, sooo cleeearly, announcing he had cancer! But the name escaped me for yeears! ..He was one classic newscaster!

    Thanks for this!

  • I do remember him very well. I never met him in person but, he was a great newscater I had watch during the 1970's and 1980's.

  • Didn't WABC have this problem too Joel Siegel, Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel and Tom Snyder.

  • And then, over at WLS (and this is all I can think of at this time), Fahey Flynn and John Drury.

  • Don't forget Marc Gibson, who like Wilson suffered from a heart attack and died while working out in a gym in 1991, and KGO Radio's Duane Garrett who jumped the Golden Gate in 95.

  • I actually worked in sports for about a year with Marc Gibson back in 86-87 at KGO. What a kind and helpful person. I was saddened by his death.

  • We always enjoyed Marc on the news and it was a shock when he passed so unexpectedly. KGO always ruled in SF back then. Hats off to all of you who contributed to that incredible era.

  • I do remember Marc Gibson. He hosted the Sunday Sports Wrap on KGO back in the day. I was saddend that he passed on at a young age.

  • @frankd1965, he suddenly died while working out at an gym.

  • @vividwatch47 That's what happend back in 1991.

  • Well -- over a span of 25 years (and given the ages of some of these folks) it's just nature's way.

  • How come everybody that works at Channel 7 drops dead?

Jerry Jensen, Pete Wilson, Russ Coughlin and there was a female weekend meteorologist that was killed on the Bay Bridge in 1986.

She only worked on the air at Channel for a month.

I am never watching that channel.

  • Its like ABC news Peter Jennings, Frank Reynolds, and Joel Siegel

  • Jerry was cool -- one of the legendary broadcasters in the Bay Area for a couple of decades.

  • Didn't Jerry Jensen Co-anchored the news with VanAmburg.

  • Yes

  • The commercial has Barney Phillips(Inspector Ed Jacobs of Dragnet). He also guest starred on The Streets Of San Francisco episode "The Bullet.

  • @frankd1965, he also played Captain Ed Franks on the Second Season of "The Felony Squad", which also featured Ben Alexander (Sgt. Dan Briggs). Interestingly, both Phillips and Alexander played Jack Webb's partner on the original series.

  • @vividwatch47 thanks for the tidbit there. Ben Alexander was Frank Smith On Dragent.

  • Van Amburg real name was William Van Amburg.

  • Van's real name is Fred Van Amburg. Bill is his eldest son.

  • Thanks for the tidbit there. I remer Van Amburg & Jerry Jenson anchoring the news back in the 1970's.

  • Wow this is like now when KGO Am and TV Mourned Pete Wilson.
