read this.once u started there is no turni back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murdured in 1945. her body was not found untill 1947.then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if ou do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos in 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste if you want to be safe
i made one with a (measuring neodymium) 2 inch long 3 inch diameter pice of neodymium magnet, and 15 ball bearings, i shot it at my wooden fence, and it made a hole in it! if i make it into a gun, i wonder if it will be a real gauss rifle that can kill a human with 1 shot, making the bullet go through the target.....

for same momentum to appear in 5x mass a 5x velocity needs to be present...there are simple laws like conservation of energy and momentum that always work. the first ball approaches the magnet by a certain speed AND the magnet attracts its more and more as it is approaches to it. you can see that the big cluster is slightly moving.. cons. of momentum-> the last ball is attracted the least and with the same mass it needs great momentum for the law to work-> acceleration-> speed.
I don't know exactly what's going on here. He pushes 1 metal ball, it accelerates into a powerful magnet, and more energy is apparently "created" and accelerates the last metal ball in the chain. Now, I know my laws of thermodynamics, so could I request an explaination of where the extra energy came from? This is kinda cool, but I'd appreciate the knowledge more.
There is potential energy stored in the first metal bearing which is the magnetic force on that ball. As the ball accelerates that energy is turned into Kinetic Energy which then is transferred by momentum through the magnets, and the other balls on the other side. The last ball has nothing to transfer to and therefore flies off with the force that was exerted upon it.
@joachim2464 well you see, all the forces are added by our favorite theorem, superpostion. Therefore also by conservation of energy, all of it is transferred to the last. (some can be lost due to friciton.)
the laws of thermodynamics have nothing to do with gauss's law. no energy is created, its like a newtons cradle, momentum is just transferred. the bearing accelerates very rapidly as it gets real close to the magnet. the other 4 ball bearings are there to compensate for recoil
I think I'm gonna do this for science fair is it fun and kinda easy?

what size magnets did you use? any idea where i can find these supplies?
MDayy137 9 months ago
ok this might sound stupid but is it possible to but more magnets to the point where when the ball shoots it can become as lethal as a bullet?
ahmadclk 1 year ago
@ahmadclk they can do more than that. Ever heard of rail guns? They work in a very similar fashion, but more elaborate.
LordRazzia 1 year ago
@ahmadclk not more magnets just stronger one however it would need huge magnets and huge ball bearings

well my understanding of it is this:
There is potential energy stored in the first metal bearing which is the magnetic force on that ball. As the ball accelerates that energy is turned into Kinetic Energy which then is transferred by momentum through the magnets, and the other balls on the other side. The last ball has nothing to transfer to and therefore flies off with the force that was exerted upon it.
ipodless91 3 years ago 25
not to mention, the last ball is further away from the magnet, therefore there less force pulling it to the magnet.
soapy05 2 years ago 3
@ipodless91 but why is the energy so big at the end?

@ipodless91 I've only studied physics for 2 years....and I understood every single word you said. It's awesome

Yeah, energy can never be created, it simply uses magnetic acceleration to transfer kinetic energy.
KHRaccoon 2 years ago
whoa, energy problem solved? make that kinetic energy power an alternator on a large scale.
dabuddha669 3 years ago
it would take energy to separate the lone steel bearing from the magnet

im clearly overlooking something, so yea.

why do you use 2 magnets- should i use 2 smaller magnetes and stick them together or just 1 longer magnet?
