When you guys speak, I can hear everything fine. When richard speaks, I can't hear anything, just faint distortion sounds, as if his audio was saturated and then the audio was lowered to near imperceptible level. How to fix?
Some clarification: no, combating hunger does *not* necessarily lead to more population growth. It is insecurity that stimulates poor people to have more kids as insurance against illness, death, old age, etc.. The only known predictor of people having less children is prosperity, *even* very small increases in prosperity. See: "Global Problems of Population Growth" by Professor Robert Wyman, open Yale Courses.
Some clarification: yes, dumping cheap subsidized American or European food on local African markets is bad, often even when there's a real crisis, because it disrupts the local production of food. The reason our governments do it anyway is that it's a lot cheaper then buying local African food to use as aid, and because we've got large surpluses due to our farming subsidies.
We need a revolution, overthrow our governments and destroy the power of the corporate cabal. It's the only way to really make a difference, not just for people in Third World countries but also here in the West. Educate yourself and you'll learn our society is largely an advanced mixture of Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World. We're all slaves of a global exploitation system. The only real freedom you have is the freedom to consume and choose your job. That's totalitarianism !
Richard raises a damned good question which most people would dismiss (crimestop!) due to ideology: what if sending Africans food is bad for them? Is feeling sorry for people - and letting everyone know it - a good basis for aid?
@hcasperson : Absolutely. Carrier still seems pretty ignorant on topics like geopolitics, but he nevertheless is one of the most intelligent and educated people I've encountered on YouTube so far. If only more people were as rational and as patient as him, the world would be a far better place ;-)

It's hard to believe that Richard is 41 years old. He doesn't look a day over 25!
