Started out flying PT 19's about 40 years ago on control line. Cox was the rave back then, lots of dog fights and many hours of fun, always wanted to model a nice RC of that plane in my older years, just never got around to it, too many P 51's and F4U's along the way. Great tribute and many thanks to you and your dad Mr H for your service, I very much enjoy my freedom. Love the videos man! Keep 'em coming.. Loyd
Thanks dave, i enjoy your vids, great stuff, just my 5 cents worth but thought it worth pointing out that with nitro planes you always cg the plane with the gas tank empty, as you dont want the plane to become hard to fly when you are getting low on fuel.
Awesome vid Dave. I am a big fan and subscriber. What would you recommend for a nice Sunday cruiser...this plane or the CMPro L-4 72"? I am torn between the two.
I get rezzed all the time about flying my glow power planes. But there's something about the set up, getting the motor to run good, the smell & smoke, the noise, the POWER, and the smoke trail behind the plane. And even the messy clean up. I LOVE IT!! Electric is nice in it's own way too when you want to fly NOW. (If batteries are full) GREAT MAIDEN DAVE!!
6 months of flying nitros. Heaps of hours in the air and no crashes - until today. Being too clever and crashed my hack trainer. Wrote it off. So now i have a spare asp61 and all the running gear i need for this plane.
Great looking plane Dave!! Thanks for all of the videos! I am currently looking for a local flying club in my area now after moving. I miss all of the knowledge that gets shared from all of mistakes and equip issues we run across in this great hobby. Keep it up!!!
I always felt that our models honor those men and women that flew them, thats why i try to be historically accurate when building a model. I think this aircraft is a great way to honor your dad.
I lost my dad in 1997 and will never forget him. I hope your dad found him and they are RCing in heaven. I have the utmost respect for you and Bob White aka Finless Bob (anyone else is wasting bandwidth) and your efforts to help the RC world. Ignore the jerks with attitude and listen to the praise from your friends like me. I really love the calm attitude you use doing your videos, and give my thanks to your buddy Jeff for helping. jim
Nice plane Mr. H, very nice tribute to your father. The wind didn't seem to affect your flying much at all. Great power. Hope you are doing well. Semper Fi
Hi, I know nothing about planes, but when you were talking about plane colors it sounded like you said "red is the worst." Is that correct? If so, why? I would think gray, blue, or white would be the worst.
Blue Skies to your Dad. I can see how proud you are of him..:) no doubt he will always be you favorite copilot!. oh...nice video too..as always. Thanks Dave!
What a difference a 4-stoke engine makes to the sound of the plane too,it's so much better than the tinny 2-stroke sound. A beautiful tribute to your dad Dave.
I have the asp 61fs just on a trainer as an experiment. I doubted the reliability of it but its been flawless. Not as much power as the OS engines but fantastic value.
@maccanaut I'm thinking of buying an ASP .61 4 stroke. You say they have less power than OS engines, how would you compare them? Is it as powerful as an OS 55 AX? or even a 46 AX? Tnx man!
@brenoribeiro2007 Hi mate. I think the asp 61fs has about the same power as an OS 46ax. Could even be a bit less, but hey it doesnt differ much, and the asp sounds fantastic. More realistic. But the 4 strokes drink more fuel than a 2 stroke i find. I havent been into nitro long enough to be too familiar with all this but its how i've found it so far. What u gonna put it in?
Value for money, the asp is fantastic. Good entry into nitro. :-)
@maccanaut Tnx! I'm thinking of putting this ASP 61 into a TWM Sky Raider Mach II. I also have a nexstar .46 with an OS .46 AX. I am either gonna get an OS 55 AX or the ASP, but the ASP's price is very attractive, lol.
@brenoribeiro2007 Dont get the os55. I heard its not much different to the 46. I think it has more power but not speed.....but even not that much more power really. The asp sounds awesome. I think i got a vid of it on my channel.....in the classic trainer. Once u get a 4 stroke, i dont think u'll get another 2 stroke. Just be careful though.....theyre a bit more dangeous than a 2 stroke i think. I was gonna get the sky raider mach II but got the phoenix classic instead. Similar. :-)
Hi Dave. Very nice video and great tribute to your Dad. How do you check or know how much power you have left in your 1300 lipo when you are useing a ubec when running glow engine set up like this?
Hi Dave. Very nice video and great tribute to your Dad. With your creative mind....I think you have lots of videos yet to share and for us to enjoy. (Especially now that are almost able to take the blade off your tractor....) :)
Really nice flight... that plane looks like fun... sorry to hear about your lost... nice tribute... keep posting your great vids... Charlie from Nicaragua.
@wudupbra420 Hello and thanks for the long time subscription. Well for Sport flying and for general engines in .40 category, I like to use at least 10-15 % Nitro and about 18-20% Synthetic oil.
Castor oil isn't as good and is really messy to clean up afterwards. All my .61 Rossis with Tuned pipes cannot run any more than 5% Nitro, as the Glowplugs would burn out after each flight. They are as extreme as their Lambos.
I run 10% with 18% Synthetic oil in my 4 strokes. Thanks and good luck.
Thanks Dave for all the time and knowledge you put into the videos. Your videos show the RC hobbyist the real world of RC modeling by you sharing your passion and know-how of the hobby. So many of the RC videos on youtube are just fronts for the big retail sellers. You keep it real and have loads of fun flying.
Thanks NightFlyyer , been a year ago today that I lost my father and thank your for your kind word's . He never got into R/C planes because he was in the 82th and he said they were not ment to be ment to be landed in , lol ..
sorry for your loss Dave but awesome tribute to your dad, I"m sure he would have loved this beautiful plane as much as you do. Remember the good times and thanks for sharing this with us all.
@photobart1 Whatever works. There has been study's done on the color spectrum on cloudy sky's, and red is at the bottom of that list along with orange and yellow at the top. RC groups also has a big discussion on the subject. All my red planes turn dark in the cloudy sky, even my big Pitts. But nothing is 100 percent and who knows, you may have "the color enhance mode" turned on in your eyeballs and see way better than us old guys. LOL. Thanks.
Love your videos, i was just wondering what you think of the Hobby Zone Mini Super Cub? i am going to buy it because i have heard that it is a good beginners plane :) I would greatly appreciate it if you could reply, i know you have a lot of people commenting all at once :) Keep up the great video work, have a great day/night.
@marybob321 I have heard nothing bad about any of the Cubs, and especially the HZ one. That is a great plane for learning cause of the high wing. A trike with a high wing would be even better, simply for ground handling purposes. Thanks for your comments.
Oh Dave, you are good for a few thousand more videos! Love the plane, it gave me those warm-fuzzy flashbacks to being 10 years old and getting a Cox PT-19 Flight Trainer. The four stroke sounds great.
Dang I love you videos! That is one great looking plane, pretty good for a china model, since alot I hear are pretty bad. Looks like those people don't know what they are talking about since you can fly it with ease! Love you Servos also, pretty sweet! Reminds you of the hobby back then when it was just more then plug in a battery in and throwing it in the air! Love your videos hope to see hundreds to come!
@EMPrcRacing Thanks so very kindly for your words. I do appreciate that. This plane flies extremely sweet. I can actually relax and get to watch it fly,(the best part of flying) instead of worrying about wind sheer and gusts. I haven't been able to do that in our heavy winds since I retired here with the foamies. Thanks again.
great video nightflyyer i mean what a plane that engine sounds fantastic how much did it cost? also do you think you could do a video on a gas spitfire, mustang or any ww2 PLANE. I'm sorry to hear about your father if you don't mind me asking what rank was he in military and did he ever fly a combat mission? thanks
@skatersrule155 Thanks very kindly for your remarks. I may do more gas, as Ive refound my roots. They suit the weather here better. Dad was a Capt and a Pilot of the AT-7 twin. He was also a certified instructor & used the PT-19 to train new pilots. I see why! Dad got polio in the height of his flying career when there was no cure yet. He wound up with a crippled arm and was discharged before any Combat, which bummed him all his life. He became a Science and Math Teacher and my mentor.
@antsp1 Haha. Thanks. Yep that may have been the way it was back in the 40s too....long before there were many runways. It was fun and I cant wait for some good weather to get back out there.
great vid and the first flight of this plane is a great dedication to your father. lol my father's birthday is next week, may have to introduce him to this hobby! just curious, have you ever owned a radial engine r/c plane? I wish there was a more in depth vid on those, they are amazing!
@futuredirectorwanna We tried and tried to get it off the water, but never could get a smooth enough day. I put it in the video description box that it was not suited for water takeoffs, It also flipped over a few times and that killed the radio and speed controller. I did it to 3 of them at my expense and Jeffs too. All dead and a thumbs down for the A5. I dont think they offer it anymore. The plane itself is tuff and flew nice just hand launching though. I may put a gas engine on it.
Damn after seen only electric or jet RC airplane/helicopters. It is great to hear an actual piston engine an realize that it sounds fantastic in flight. And I agree with SweetMafiaVG about building your own airplane. Maybe you could sell the blueprint or kits :) You are a great craftsman. I do a lot of my own build (not RC) but built stuff for my computer simulator. And I always is amazed how crafty you are. You have many fantastic tips I have taken and used for some of my projects thanks!
@anariaq I do really appreciate your comments. Getting back to gas is very invigorating for me too. Who knows about me building a plane? I've been thinking about it too or even a Benson Gyrocopter.
@NightFlyyer I would get a Mosquito XEL helicopter. I grew up with only seen helicopters ( greenland when I was young only used helicopters before they started building airports Bell 212 and Sikorsky 61) And always dreamed about flying helicopters. But don't have the money to get a licence. But hey I'm still "young" turn 30 this year. So maybe one day I will try it out ;)
@SweetMafiaVG Yes that would be a major project for sure and garage space is getting limited as I still havent figured out where to hang this one. But something the size of a BD 5 would be fun to build for sure. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for another great video. And thanks for the tip about arm band floats ( in one of your previous videos). Really good.

He wound up with a crippled arm and was discharged before any Combat, which bummed him all his life. He became a Science and Math Teacher and my mentor.

Very nice.
I like the runway the best.
You and a friend on a lonely farm road.
Awesome!

I wish there was a more in depth vid on those, they are amazing!
jamiekenta 10 months ago
@jamiekenta Thanks very kindly. I have never been able to afford a radial and they are expensive to crash....
What could go wrong? LOL

Dave, did you ever do the second part on the A-5 seaplane?
futuredirectorwanna 10 months ago

You should start a major project. Build your own airplane, a scaled airplane with a 5-8 foot wingspan. Come up with a paint job and plan it all out.

@SweetMafiaVG Yes that would be a major project for sure and garage space is getting limited as I still havent figured out where to hang this one. But something the size of a BD 5 would be fun to build for sure. Thanks for the comment.
