It's too bad he couldn't just explore his music later without people taking advantage of him for money. He said he wanted to quit and go solo before he died because of it. Yes, people always cite that scene in that movie when someone is shown jumping up and down with "the same" heroin dose. They don't mention that the dose was methadone. This makes a huge difference in potency. Intravenously injected heroin is extremely potent. I dare you to give me one example of someone with intravenously injected heroin of that dose (1.52 mgs per liter of blood) who remained conscious long enough to pull a trigger.
