If you have a problem with anything done or said by Tyler Danek, I suggest you ask him about it. Maybe at the next comp you see him at? Maybe a t Singapore next month on the barrel? The point of my messages is about style of riding, or the LACK thereof, not to single out any specific rider.
I will ask him, but I'm asking you if you think that was a wise idea? My goal is not to single out a rider, Tyler, is a good kid, he's stayed at my house, with my wife and son. I was out on business. But I'd still like to know what you think out his comment to that question?
Then why try to throw him under the bus when we're having a respectful debate on riding styles and not singleing out any rider? .... To be honest I have no idea he even had a profile there, or what was said...
First off, it's a rider profile that came out in the online magazine. The interviewer asked the last movie he watched and them quoted him.
I don't want him thrown under the bus, he's a great guy, but what I see with a lot of the young (extremely skilled riders) seem to represent themselves poorly in print and on film. If you send me an e-mail (privately, just send me a message) I'll try and forward you a copy of the online magazine. So you can see what I'm talking about.
Damn that's a whole lot of spinning!!! Nicely made vid to whomever made it, but this sports so much bigger and more fun to watch on barreling wave instead of that little flat one! Bodyboarders stop spinning your legs to spin, and landing on your sides and backs on whatever those "roll thingy's" are..... that looks horrible!!!
By bigger, I assume you mean that the riders get more air, and not that more people have access to the barrel, as there is only one barrel and dozens of flowriders. And as soon as Waveloch puts 100 barreling waves across the nation then we will not need to have this conversation. As far as people using their legs to spin, why don't you post a video showing us how to do it? In the ocean, on the flowrider, or on b-max. Until then your comments come off as extremely pretentious.
Watch vids on how Hayley Balderamma(riding prone), Stephen Manuel, Billy Tennant, Tyler Danek, Wesley Fisher, , Paul Lexingtion, (at least three of whom are on your vid) spin using their rails & not whipping their legs around. Or ANY/ALL ocean bodyboarding vids. The proper style for spinning is legs up & prefereably crossed. The attraction w leg-whipping is that makes a rider spin faster, and some judges who are not experienced with bodyboarding unfortunaetly grade faster=better. wrong imo.
As for the roly thingy's (hubbcaps, etc...). The riders I mention above all do them but I always thought they looked REALLY bad. EVERY rider touches his or her shoulder &/or back on the mat. and EVERY rider pushes or jumps off mat to get "air". Beachbreaks replicate the face & shoulder of a wave &, IMO, should be ridden like a rider in the ocean rides on the face/shoulder of the wave. Rider's should be penalized or dq'd for pushing off mat to roll & landing on their backs.
EVERY one of the riders on your vid is extremely talented and I mean no disrespect to any of them. This is very CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, I love this sport and I've been involved in it watching it for 10 years now and hate seeing sloppy riding, and don't want to see this sport head down the path where riders in the highest divisions are rewarded for bad style and pushing off the mat.
So you want to take one of the few tricks away that riders can do on a beachbreak? It's not the ocean and one should not try to make it what it is not. In your rant on ariclite (I would say gladly share my thoughts on arclite but they will not accept me as a member, I have tried three times.) you said they should get zero points for touching the mat. That would have given all four riders in the finals zero points. I don't see that as a viable means of getting press coverage....
Yes Zero for all riders. But the point and objective here is NOT to give riders zeros or dq riders. It's to demand more from expert riders. Hold the experts to a highrer standard instead of having them blend in to the rest of the comp... In the old New Braunfels pro comps that's exactly how it was judged. Any push-off or use of the mat or wall resulted in ride being DQ'd. DEMAND the experts ride totally unassisted. Riders want to do hubbs and hubb caps, do it in juniors or mens, not exxperts...
I understand the idea behind giving people zero for using the mat but it is a bad idea on several levels. It does not promote creativity. It tells the riders in expert to ride in a boring manner. Penalizing them, sure. Giving them zero, no good.
I have to respectfully disagree. It's boring to discipline yourself as a rider? To demand and expect a cleaner, more precise style of riding using the board and rails and water, exclusively to move and ride? Jonathan, you seem like a very imformed highly intelligent person. I'd have to say, using the wall and mat and hands is part of every riders progression, but IMO, NOT using those crutches is what truly should seperate elite riders from those still learning and honing their skills...
I agree that would be awesome and I feel that in the future it will separate the good from the great, it already does to an extent. But then again we are talking about the flowrider and not the flowbarrel and we all know that the future of the sport is with the flowbarrel. Hopefully Waveloch starts building many more barrels.
"the future of the sport is with the flowbarrel. Hopefully Waveloch starts building many more barrels"..On that Jonathan, I'd have to say we agree 100%! I understand what you're saying but force riders to push and progress themselves.Even on a bb! Tyler did wild crazy stuff using the wall/mat when he was in youth, but he evolved his riding & grew out of that. There's some young riders at your park & around the country who have the same natural talent T did, push them to progress the right way
My son started riding bb at the beginning of the season, (he competes in Expert Stand-up) but just started riding bb. He managed to get 7th out of 32 at Nationals in DK. How quickly he learns is astounding to me. One of the reasons he learned so quickly is he did not waste anytime on yo-yo's and stuff. His first trick was a dk shuv-it, now he does 360 shuv-its, big spins and body varials, it amazing to see him progress so quickly and also frustrating because I progress so slowly.
That's awesome Jonathan! He should be really proud of himself! 360 shuvits are advanced dk tricks for any and all riders on the tour! And considering the level of competition in DK, 7th place speaks volumes for how good he is!
I totally agree that-that is the a better style.... Whether they do it to spin faster is subject to debate. Smeo do it because they have not learned the proper form etc. Furthermore, when you say some judges, you get into a lot of speculation. Personally I don't know of one judge that grades faster as better and I've judged a lot of events.
P.S. Is this Bob? Daneks dad? If it is we have a much longer talk about your rant on arclite.
YEP! You guessed correctly sir.. I won't EVER hide behind a screenname.... The riders here in DFW had the VERY GOOD FORTUNE of learning to flow and to ride and learning proper style from riders (Ben Garret, Matt Fenstermacher, Brian Rendenbaugh, Big Scott, Matt Reynolds) who LOVED BODYBOARDING and were actively invloved in it, and ACTIVELY TAUGHT the younger riders to ride with proper bodyboarding style. The worm spins are popular b/c they make spining faster EASIER...
Personally, I think there are things that paint the sport or riders in general in a bad light then using their legs to spin. Yet I agree at the elite level people should be penalized for using their hands or their legs to spin. I will not mention specifics here because I don't want to bring light to what I feel is a sad matter. But reading Tylers profile in the most recent flowboarder mag saddened me. Specifically, the question what was the last movie you watched? Come on! Kids see that!
perpetual3am stop talking you dont even have any videos on your page that are of you doing something that consists of any tallent at all each and every rider on this video has tallent that im sure you never will have.
I assume this could be confusing as you commented on a different video than the rant. I am not justifying myself to you. I am challenging you to make a video better than the one you originally commented on. I don't care if you don't have a strong desire, I am challenging you to do a better job, because you said, I should NEVER do commentary again. I know that you will not make a video because you cannot make a better video. Finally, people tend to improve over time and that is what i will do.
Your comment on my page amused me, considering you are obviously insecure as to constantly justify yourself to the interweb masses like myself, I will bite at the comment you left. You do realize I HAVE TO HAVE AN ACCOUNT, in order to see any video that is flagged for mature content. Unlike you, I don't have an overwhelming desire to make videos of what I do in my life, nor would I care if someone didn't like something about it. Keep doing what your doing, just get a friend to say it for you.
If you have a problem with anything done or said by Tyler Danek, I suggest you ask him about it. Maybe at the next comp you see him at? Maybe a t Singapore next month on the barrel? The point of my messages is about style of riding, or the LACK thereof, not to single out any specific rider.
