I do not know why I am so intersted a thing like an iron lung one thing I have never heard most got well and were wiend out of them but for the few who did not I heard many just gave up the will to live and I wondered if many were compltly paralized did a freind or relative drop a dealy poisin either they asked for it or not t put the out of there missery and there would most likly not have been an autopsy consdering there condition this mater as far as I know hasnever been talked about
What kind of life is this? Being trapped in one place for the rest of your life, having machines breathe for you, with you being completely unable to do ANYTHING? I'll take death over this, thank you very much.
guys if 37,000 people who watched this donated about 5 dollars toward a research fund to create a synthetic lung than there would be one by now, I am 15 years old at this moment and this is the madest ive ever been and I can honestly say that if i was asked to I would donate all the money in my wallet to help get this lady out and walking this iratates me more than anything i cannot imagine liveing like that
I think about how thankful some of these people are for the iron lung and how they have enough courage to keep on... Martha Mason is very inspirational too check her out. Many of us are much more fortunate with our health and do not truly appreciate how lucky we are.

Polio destroys the nerves and not the lung. If the lung would be ill, this device couldn't help. The Iron Lung takes the function of the diaphragm, not of the lung itself. It generates over- and under pressure to ensure ex- and inhalation.
@Locomikey666 look you dumb a++ if you had studied a little thing called history you would understand that they couldn't of put the woman in a wheelchair because the spine is shaped like an S and your spine believe it or night has a lot to do with circulation of air either you A.didn't know that because you couldn't of or B. you just don't read or study duhhhh!!!!!
Sadly, this woman has died. I really love her bravery after going through all that she has. Honestly, I wouldn't be strong enough to do what she has done. I would ask to be euthanized because there is no way I could live like that.
The woman has been in this thing since the age of three, she probably barely (if that all) remembers what it was like to NOT have a iron lung. I personally wouldn't want to live like this.
It's all she's ever known, so I'm sure she doesn't see it the way we do. They can still have fulfilling lives, just in a different way than we can imagine.
I hope people who refuse to vaccination their children watch this video.
I cannot imagine what this must be like, do you see an iron lung as a friend or enemy? I suppose its a friend as it saved lives but it gives me nightmares. RIP Olivia.
She died at the end of May this year. Sad story, but at least now she won't have to worry about being taken care of, she is with Jesus now. May she RIP.

What's the purpose of living if this is your life? 50 years of medical expenses and a futile existence to live in a machine 24/7?

@Ebbtide007 HOWEVER, Diane Odell was one of the rare cases where, because of her spine, this was her best option.

Why don't she have a lung transplant!
PersonOfBook 1 year ago
@PersonOfBook It's something to do with muscles i think, so a transplant wouldn't help at all.

@TheEagle1 Interesting! Then why it is called an Iron Lung! Wouldn't Iron diaphragm would be more a appropriate name!

that is still unexceptable to me, its time I go, with a string
of problems. I would be only prolonging my pain and
suffering and lining doctors pockets.
