Hi... all you really need to do is set up the program, the guy in the video is using so that it records "what you hear" or basically the sound output from the computer... the quality of the song will or should be the same as a youtube's audio quality.

interesting method but i just use cam studio to record it then import it into movie maker to change it from a video to a wma file which i then transfer into itunes it work pretty well for me : )

This video doesn't tell you quite a lot how to actually download (or rather said: record) the sound from a youtube video. I haven't managed to test recording a soundtrack with audacity, but I did try downloading a certain youtube video with a nice soundtrack. Eventually converted the file, but I must say ...the sound quality decreases by a lot. I hope recording the sound its self by Audacity it prevents the quality from dropping.

Ok a few things. You need to show everybody how to download the mp3 codec or they won't be able to export as an MP3. Theres no way you can get caught. Your recording the song. No downloading required. Also unlike other methods you can tag the song when you export it so it has all the information. Your not stealing anyones viruses silly boy haha

You would get horrible audio quality that way. There are better ways. I have a friend that plays at the end of her videos music that you can tell was recorded by her blaring it from her speakers. It raises my blood pressure just a little bit when I have to hear it :)

Some people change it to wavemix which is recording directly from their soundcard. But why do that when you can just use youtube to mp3 software, copy and paste the link and have it do the work for you? Or if it's on myspace use file2hd? I use freeware from dvdvideosoft and I love it it's like a swiss army knife. Sorry if this sounds like an ad but I use it daily so I just like getting the word out.

I fixed the audio quality problem by halfing the volume on youtube, and lowering the input recording volume slider to the third notch. After I did that, the sound came thru clear as a bell. Forgot to post that in this thread, but did post it in the other thread I was using. Sorry I missed ya.

DVDvideosoft is awesome to use, but u have the video with the song, so that part sucks. Anyways, There's other stuff u can do, like line-in recording. No downloading, takes a few minutes, can do it with anything, put into Mp3 format, and the only thing u have to do is plug in a wire, and click a button! Sounds just like the real thing! DVDvideosoft has a "free You Tube to MP3 converter" in its Free Studio Manager., which I use all the time now. You paste in the URL of the YT video and you can select 96kbps to 256kbps for the quality and then push the download button. It will put your MP3 file in the folder of your choice, and will automatically entitle the MP3 with the video name.  It is very simple and has great results.

I tried this and it worked. I notice though the file is only 64kbps. I was hoping to be able to find out how to adjust the settings in Audacity to get the maximum quality, so far I havent had to much success, as the end product doesnt have much volume.

You're own or somebody else's? If it's your own, then just use the method in the video, since Audacity will record whatever sounds and music your computer is playing. If it's somebody else's, your going to need a microphone.
