I love tanks, from the Tiger to the Abrams they are BADASS!!. What the video shows is true, Russian tanks are more vulnerable to RPG fire, anti-tank mines etc. due to being less lightly armored. However, in todays world of combat, tank on tank warfare is usually fought at ranges of 1000-3000 yds, sometimes closer depending on the battle environment so a 125mm chinese gun would knock out the abrams at 1000 yrds using the APCR round easily, at longer ranges the west would have a clear advantage...
Yea, but what you don't mention is that those Iraqi tanks where EXPORT models, produced cheaply with reduced armour thickness, no ERA, no composite armour, and a lot of features removed, i.e. no active protection systems. The U.S. also sells a similarly downgraded Abrams to Egypt and a few other countries.
It's true the older T-54 and T-72 designs are very prone to ammo detonation and are also prone to fire. The T-90 design is probably better but it still doesn't have anywhere for the blast to go if an ammo detonation were to happen. I'm sure M1 Abrams and other NATO MBT's have been damaged or destroyed in combat. They just have better designs and don't get destroyed easily. A "slim" design is nice and all but not when your tank is a moving tinderbox.

Iraqis T-72 was destroyes by Apaches AH64 longbows T 55 and T 62 were destroyed mostly by Israelis airforce...Tanks are ground units and they cannot fire at the chopers and planes so this was the main reason why,they are not equal!

@claudoran Actually the Marine Corps had extensively used M60 Patton tanks against said russian tanks and only suffered 2 tanks lost throughout the entire conflict. Israelis also have countless success stories of western tanks trumping soviet designs in conflict.

M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II can easily destroyed T-90M. T-90M maybe protected by ARENA active protection system but it won't protect it. THe M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II have XM1111 Mid Range Munition which was design to destroyed active protection system and reactive armor. The M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II can also fire M829A3 or M829E4 use it to penetrate and destroyed T-90M's Kontakt-5 ERA and Kaktus ERA. Russian tanks aren't even a threat.
US tanks defeated Russian tanks from Korean war to War in Iraq 2003. The M41, M48 and M551 destroyed tons of T-32, T-54/55 and PT-76 in Korean War, Vietnam War, and Six Days War. The M60 Patton knock out T-62 during Yom Kippur war. During 1991 Gulf War, M1 Abrams destroy huge junks of T-72. Russian tanks are useless, junks, and waste of money.

I love tanks, from the Tiger to the Abrams they are BADASS!!. What the video shows is true, Russian tanks are more vulnerable to RPG fire, anti-tank mines etc. due to being less lightly armored. However, in todays world of combat, tank on tank warfare is usually fought at ranges of 1000-3000 yds, sometimes closer depending on the battle environment so a 125mm chinese gun would knock out the abrams at 1000 yrds using the APCR round easily, at longer ranges the west would have a clear advantage...

Yea, but what you don't mention is that those Iraqi tanks where EXPORT models, produced cheaply with reduced armour thickness, no ERA, no composite armour, and a lot of features removed, i.e. no active protection systems. The U.S. also sells a similarly downgraded Abrams to Egypt and a few other countries.

It's true the older T-54 and T-72 designs are very prone to ammo detonation and are also prone to fire. The T-90 design is probably better but it still doesn't have anywhere for the blast to go if an ammo detonation were to happen. I'm sure M1 Abrams and other NATO MBT's have been damaged or destroyed in combat. They just have better designs and don't get destroyed easily. A "slim" design is nice and all but not when your tank is a moving tinderbox.

Iraqis T-72 was destroyes by Apaches AH64 longbows T 55 and T 62 were destroyed mostly by Israelis airforce...Tanks are ground units and they cannot fire at the chopers and planes so this was the main reason why,they are not equal!

The fact that 90% or more of these aren't even russian made or include the original components make this vid sort of invalid. All you showed here are shitty old T55's, a few T72 which were most likely made in Poland or some other eastern bloc country that simply copies russian design cutting corners or slapping on aftermarket parts that don't really go with it. I have seen numerous references to an M1A3 in development but seen no specs, pics etc, so...Ive seen those prototype systems for signature reduction and 'blending'. Very interesting but still some ways to go. BTW in another thread someone stated a Chal 2 was destroyed by another Chal 2 in a friendly fire incident in Iraq. No dates or sources provided though...

Does it make you feel tough to beat up on second and third world countries with obsolete equipment? Its about the only fight you can win. Those tanks 1991 Gulf War aren't even Russian standard tanks. The Russian tanks after cold war were equipped with ERA and composite armour. The 1991 Gulf War wasn't a fair tank battle. The Iraqi T-72, T-62, T-54/55, PT-76, Type 59, & Type 69 lack of armour, thermal sight, night vision sight, bad condition inside the tank, weak engine, and lack of trainings. During 1991 Gulf War the only tanks that could match M1 and Challenger tank were Russian T-80 which Iraqi doesn't has it in their arsenal.

NATO commanders aren't sending columns of armor alone between apartment blocks, they use flatland or wide roads, and their armor usually has air and infantry support to screen, scout and supress enemy antiarmor assets.

well these are mostly outdated tanks and pretty much all of these tanks arnt even from the russian army, in the 90's in chechnya tanks where being destroyed because russian army was corrupt and they where not putting explosives in their tanks reactive armor rather officers where stealing and selling it, but todays russian tank is much more modern than the abrams, and it has the advantage and could easily take out the abrams

While the America Abrams is a superior tank, I still think that it would not have fared any better under the same kind of attacks from the Air than the Soviet Era stuff. But when you can't buy American, you have to take second best and in the Future with the ending of the Laws mandating our weapons systems be American Built, we will soon be in the same position.

imagine the 2003 Invasion if the Iraqis had t-90s, btr-90s (modern russian equipment) and so on.... the war would have been 100% different.
or if the americans would have fought with M60 Pattons or M43 Bulldogs...

@claudoran Actually the Marine Corps had extensively used M60 Patton tanks against said russian tanks and only suffered 2 tanks lost throughout the entire conflict. Israelis also have countless success stories of western tanks trumping soviet designs in conflict.

Russian tanks would've done fine in the Fulda Gap. Ridiculous numbers, good tank country, flat terrain to accommodate their poor-ish gun elevation and depression characteristics.
Doesn't change the fact that if you penetrate the tank something lights and takes the crew with it way too often. Deathtraps, not unlike their WWII antecedents, the T-34. I'd say Russia learned a few bad lessons from their success in WWII but that America and NATO kept advancing the state of the art in tank design.

M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II can easily destroyed T-90M. T-90M maybe protected by ARENA active protection system but it won't protect it. THe M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II have XM1111 Mid Range Munition which was design to destroyed active protection system and reactive armor. The M1A2 SEP TUSK I/II can also fire M829A3 or M829E4 use it to penetrate and destroyed T-90M's Kontakt-5 ERA and Kaktus ERA. Russian tanks aren't even a threat.

US tanks defeated Russian tanks from Korean war to War in Iraq 2003. The M41, M48 and M551 destroyed tons of T-32, T-54/55 and PT-76 in Korean War, Vietnam War, and Six Days War. The M60 Patton knock out T-62 during Yom Kippur war. During 1991 Gulf War, M1 Abrams destroy huge junks of T-72. Russian tanks are useless, junks, and waste of money.

Any tank will eventually go out of date and be surpassed by new weapons and new designs. I'm sure their are plenty of videos of Abrams tanks destroyed in battle.
