Almost 1/3 of Union generals were born in Dixie. Meanwhile, 180,000 black Southerners fought for the U.S. If you wish to honor the South, take down the treason flag and develop a more expansive definition of the region. The Confederacy was its hated colonizer.

You will find that slavery was the root cause of the war at least in mind of southern men who called for the war in 1861.

Im from Oklahoma, and yes got some indian in me which were mistreated at the time. Also, if the South main goal was slavery, why did they free their slaves in 1863, half way through the war? Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, they were abolitionists, that is fact.

It needs to be a primary source written by the south before or early in the civil stating their purpose for the war without reference to slavery as the main issue.

Some southerners may have freed their slaves but few did until the boys in blue freed them from their masters.

Late in the war Virginia enacted a law that all free blacks were now slaves to preserve the proper role of the races.

As to tyranny compare the Confederate constitution to the Union constitution. In the Confederate constitution there is nothing like the 1st Amendment.

As to Sherman, the war would have ended anytime the south wanted it to end. Sherman made the south want to end the war.

As to Lincoln and Tyrants, please compare the writings of Lincoln to Calhoun and Davis.
