the mandrain lyrics is not any less meaningful than cantonese. it laughs at the irony in life, and elaborates on the helplessness in life. every detail portrays the cruelty of time and life, for there is always separation. it then ends with a lighter note, that after each end, is the start of something new.
Cantonese lyric is more meaningful, because it use the event of dismantling a famous street in Hong Kong (Wan Chai district) to metaphor the ending of relationship betweet two lovers

I personally think she immitates Yanzi's singing style, however Yanzi performs so much better in terms of singing skills. As for the song, it has a nice melody, easy to follow and not many ups and down, thus made it easy for her to sing. It's another typical Cantonese K song, and that's why it's so popular coz everyone can sing it. I would love to hear Yanzi sings this song tho!
yah! i first thought it was yanzi singing too! but there's some differences in their voices. but i think its too similar to yanzi's articulation and voice!
I probably can't even realize where to start to prove the infallacy of what you've just said, so, I guess I'll just start with Yanzi's singing style.
To be honest, no one is copying no one's singing style. Kat's canton singing style is pretty much same with her mandarin singing style, long slurs, crisp top notes, and comes along with a hint of a suppressed and hoarse voice. Convert this to mandarin, and Kat and Yan zi pretty much own the same voice.
song. To be honest, there really isn't anything much you can do with a slow love song. You don't incorporate rollercoaster level tunes into it, love songs don't fluctuate in terms of cold to warm - to be precise, love songs don't incorporate the different levels of intensities that most other genres have. Typical Canto song? You mean typical love song, eh?
Well I guess it's the melody, it's bit like "ballad", most of the songs written in HK nowadays are like that. You really don't see much varieties in HK music, the music style all sound very similar, and that's what I meant by "typical Canto k" song, it's so easy to sing, thus very popular in karaoke. Although love songs don't incorporate diff levels of intensities, however, I do believe the same song can be sing in many diff ways, it's just a matter of how good you can intrepret it.
I guess it's her mandarin pronounciation, or should I say the articulation..? It's very similar to Yanzi's, especially at the end of every word, she kinda rolled her tongue like Yanzi....
I also found there are few other fast songs sing by Kay are very much like Yanzi's music. Maybe she didn't copy, but even if she did, it's no big deal in the music industry.
Its a kinda nice song. It has swapped so many awards last year. its hard to believe she is already 35 and has a son! Its kind of old already. LOL//. but still, hope she produce more good songs in e future!
