Thanks for the kind comments,it is a beautiful place, your mum will be happy to be there. Try the HQ version of this video for better pictures. kind regards.
I had the honour to work on her in 1977 when she was the "Australis". she was a beautiful ship and a special part of my life. It's nice to see so many people leaving nice comments about her.
A tragic end for my old ship but at least she was claimed by the sea and not reduced to being turned into razor blades by the breakers yard.
I would like to have had that experiance, i can tell you , just standing on the shore looking at what was left of her was amazing.. sadly nothing left now, even though i visit the beach twice a year while on holiday.. theres lots more videos on here, some of the best one`s in my favorites, take a look if you can .. Thanks for watching..
Thank you for replying. It was only after I'd posted that I realised the info was already there. Anyway thanks for the vid. As an ex Merchant Navy man I found it very interesting particularly after going back and researching the history of the "Star". I have a very tenuous connection in as much as I sailed for two years in a freighter owned by Chandris when I was a young man - I did say tenuous. I now know of Brian Eno too and will look at some more of his music. Thanks again.
It's sad that America rusted away when she did. But, at the same time, I glad she wasn't scrapped.

I see you visited it on a calm day! The times I'd been there it was always being pounded by the sea..... very atmospheric, frightening and powerful

Was there anything inside the decaying ship?i mean furniture, china etc
kingofcouture5 7 months ago
@kingofcouture5 Very unlikely. The ship was disused for quite a while before it became a wreck and changed hands a few times as it was sold on.

America, America. She was such a beautiful Ocean Liner. I would gladly sail on her over united states. I could care less if big u gets scrap

It is sad to see America wasted away like that, but it would be even sad to se her scrap
