It's a shame they are so deluded about the real world and the nature of the universe, but at least they don't try to shove their ideas down people's throats which other religious fundamentalists do. And in spite of all the doctrination they inflict upon their kids, they allow them to choose when they're old enough. Science didn't "bring" murder, rape, pedophilia, etc. You seem to think that these things were done "in the name of atheism". That is a ridiculous and false assumption.
If you want to talk about evils done "in the name of" something, then you need look no further than religion.
e.g. the bible's answer to disprespecting parents is to assesinate the children.

Althought I am still prone to diseases. Aren't you? Will never get divorced or be selfish? etc. The most selfish people in the world are the religious right in the USA. Teen pregnancy - you are more likely to get pregnant if you think "god" dislikes contraceptives and don't use them.
Violence - really? There is more incitement to violence in the bible than you could shake a stick at! e.g: If your children disrespect you, assesinate them!
