  • I showed it to a little girl, 6 years old: she will never damage a tree. 2 weeks later , yesterday she told her mother not to hurt a tree in her garden by cutting a branch!

  • was the tree leaking sound or feeling pain?

  • Loved the story/concept of the idea...hated the over saturated colors though. Awesome short, nevertheless!

  • @MrXtamar999 I think 30 minutes is the maximum

  • i read the short when i was a kid, this is a good short film version of it

  • Sorry what happened at the end?

  • If this fellow were to engage in sex with a tree, would this device allow him to hear the pleasurable responses from it?

  • If he had sex with the tree, would he hear moaning or would it still scream? I guess depending on the tree.

  • The tree shoulda been all, "Bitch, you betta not have stabbed me"

  • based on? exactly the same but without the good ending.

  • I am scarred to look at trees now... thanks!

  • ive always thought about this, but if there are, im sure it will sound in the volume of things that are like what we hear cause if it were as what it was portrayed here, dogs wouldve been insane. but good film that truly captures the concept

  • happy earth day!

    take care of this planet.

  • This is a marvellous film! Absolutely captivating from beginning to end. I love the styling and the soundtrack. The fact that you got such a great story across with no words at all is amazing!

  • Oh, thought something looked familiar about this video. Used to go to this park almost every summer day during my college break periods - infact right next to that tree. I never knew we were surrounded by so much pain lol :P I'll have to go check up on it and report back if it lived.

  • What about the grass he's stepping on? Aren't they alive?

  • @StewieKaan theyre not injured tho just by being stepped on

  • I vaguely remember hearing once that scientists had done experiments and found out that plant life does create noise that we can't hear and responds to action taken against it. It was tomatoes, I think. Probably not true, but the same idea is here used in a very nice short film.

  • @ragdolltwisty It probably is true.

  • yeah me too..i wanted to know if the tree was ok ...:)

  • why the hell would you make the ending like that man i wanted to know was the tree ok :( but i really like this film..if people can here the sounds that plants make when they are tron down or cut they probally wouldnt do it anymore :( it hurts to see plants and animals destroyed by us..the human race...were really the reason why the world is coming to the end...and when were gone the plants an animals will still be here....healing and living life with out anything to worry about but themselfs

  • @lilny331 I agree. We claim to be important when really we are probably the only living things that not only don't help nature and aren't of value to it, but are actually a burden on nature. It breaks my heart what humans have done to the world and to the innocent creatures that inhabited it before we came along and took their home, and technically the world would be so much better without us here, destroying the environment and blowing each other up in wars. :(

  • Then he never mowed his lawn again.

  • I forgot to put the title of the show, it's Tales From The Darkside.

  • There is an episode of an older show, I think 80s or 90s, that uses a similar idea.

Basicly what happens in that episode is that there is an over weight woman who signs up for a diet, in which it has her wear an ear piece, and the food on her plate talks to her, and it scares her into sewing her mouth.

  • Wow... excellent film. Check out our short film "Numerica"

  • fanstsic,, :)

  • what this..??????

  • It's a nice thought experiment but people have to realize that's all it is ... plants do not have pain receptors and cannot feel pain in a way we can understand or 'scream' at frequencies we cannot hear

the world is not "screaming out" at us for harming it

  • @moderneros that doesn't mean it's ok to destroy so many of them just because we want to build more concrete monstrosities.

  • @MEareCAT Did I say that it was justification to? No I didn't, like I said it's a nice thought experiment

  • That tree started a band.

  • aww taken from a Roald Dahl! was goign to comment o how original the idea was. Still, well adapted good job.

  • 2 Daisies and a tree were harmed in the making of this film.

  • GREAT

  • what a wonderful film! it's scary how the earth sounds suffering. even on nasa's recordings from space the earth sounds like a dying machine compared to other planets who have a harmonious sound. there is a really nice book on the subject called the life of plants. according to it, the plant would probably scream even before you harm it. but again - good work, happy to have seen a film on the subject.

  • I thought Roald Dahl's story haunting and beautiful. This film, although different, did it justice. Nice one.

  • this whole idea is pretty much by Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was a legend who rocked the bedtime stories of my childhood!!!

  • real clever and soul-touching story, nice colors and photography....

  • real clever story, nice colors and photography....

  • This is a strange little video and I'm not entirely sure about what I think about it. It was interesting, tense and captivating but I'm not entirely sure about my thoughts. Strange subject matter, and I really liked the quote from Roald Dahl at the beginning. I think it really summarised your message quite nicely. The music for the piece is really very good and it worked to enhance the mood ant atmosphere. Quite a nice little film there. Thanks for sharing it! TSStudios xx

  • Beautiful history!

  • Stupid and lame video. Took so freaking long. Sucks.

  • pretty gay ye . but good to watch! . what do u think it happened in the end ? :) i think the screaming was still

  • gay

  • Eh.

  • That dude will never use paper agian....

  • I love how the grass feels no pain

  • @Asianinvasion1337 exactly what I was thinking...

  • @Asianinvasion1337 The grass probably emits sound at a different frequency, which he is not tuned into.

  • brilliant! in so many ways! BRAVO! and btw, good job on the vertigo effect! i'm still struggling with mine :P LOVED IT!

  • this amazing

  • eeeeerie

  • Loved it!!!! :))

  • I was about to go crazy when he injured the tree...

  • This is great lesson for each of us, to feel the pain

  • Absolutely fantastic film!

  • kinda scary

  • THIS IS THE BEST... really... if there are words that exceeds "best", then that would be it... nice idea... nice theory... it can be happening... I never thought of it...

  • @honeybratzz nah, it's not happening. Not pain in any form we know of, they know that somethings different though, that's why they heal it but they don't feel pain because they don't have a brain, to put it simply.

  • Was I the only one that screamed "STOP!" when he pulled out the knife??

  • @SamxRxI yeah i think u were

  • This idea came from Roald Dahl, it's in one of his books.

  • true....also plants can have feelings..

  • Good Teaching my Friend! :)

  • kinda slow

  • try mowing ur lawn wear wearing those

  • Fucking trees.

  • scary though..

  • the pace is a little bit too slow for my taste. haha. great film though.

  • @ratpie Too SLOW???????? Are you one of those little fruitiecakes that I love to tickle?

  • @MrDarcyzPP

    what??? you're weird man

  • i think everyone should take 10 minutes out of their lives to watch this. I was intrigued by this video

  • @mxolivertwist That means they'd have to take ten seconds out of their lives to read your comment. And believe me, it was a waste to read.

  • @MrDarcyzPP It took you 10 seconds to read his comment?

  • I really like the execution of the concept. The changing of shots (from his eyes to hands and again eyes to hands) when he is about to connect the wires again at the last minute is wonderful! :)

  • would be better if they follow exactly like the book.

  • Taken from a book: The Sound Machine

  • @azwan1992 Oh god, that god-damned book.

  • i like when he puts a bandage on it. its sweet. :)

  • DANGIT. They pulled an inception on me. I love the imagination involved with this though. The questions mankind has but never really thinks about.

  • Great concept, very touching.

  • brilliant...just brilliant

  • the magic of short films is great..it shows that you must not have long time to make a point..awesome job,you all talented people..

  • Brilliant!

  • 42 People hate plants and oxygen

  • They should have a youtube devoted to short films

  • Even though it was an awesome movie.

I have a question how come all the grass underneath him wasn't screaming as well?

  • @exovess I wondered the same thing...lol and it seems to be environmentalist but how would vegetarians react because if we support animanl rights and plant rights what do we eat then? I wudnt like to hear my cabbage screaming when im chopping it up...lol imagine that

  • just amazing.

  • So much was said without using words.

  • Love this short story! Nice sound design and it's shot really well. I imagined the tree's scream to be a little different though. Great job!

  • Who the fuck is the music composer? I need him for my next short film. ;)

  • Whoa. Mind = blown.

  • Whew. I'll never stab a tree again.

  • The film is interesting and the filmmakers really knew what their message would was going to be. The shots are amazing and the whole screaming Earth concept really brings their point across. The last scene, when he "heals" the tree, is cool.

  • Rosechuck1's version was better

  • just think about it..........if we could hear the world scream then we would all be afraid of building more houses for hard working people that deserve house..of course some things are unnecessary aren't worth building but....still...im probably reading to much into it.

  • The film started Perfectly, ,The good camera work and cinematography added to the perfection through out the film, although having not read the story of the acclaimed writer Roald dahl, i can surely say this was what he was visualizing writing the story. The time (almost ten minutes) passed quick in a smooth flow, which shows the interest of the short film..And yes off course the sound was well timed, completely going with the film and adding to the impact.

    9.5/10

  • Seems kind of overrated... It wasn't bad though.

  • I wanna know what happened! Did his ear drums explode or was the tree healed.

  • I cried when he starting wrapping the tree with gauze... don't judge. Such a tender moment.

  • stab and run, motherfucker! stab and run!

  • If people could hear the world screaming out in pain, then we would realize it's us who is causing that pain.

  • @Thoradude666 it's easier for the people of the world to ignore the pain...

  • @Thoradude666 we already realize that its us causing the pain.. but we dont care.. you try wiping your ass with out toilet paper.. then you'll be crying out in pain.. treehugger

  • @espn0616 Haha jokes on you. I've done that.

  • @Thoradude666 we will never hear it because we will be forever causing it pain :( do you write poetry? you should, AMAZING vid btw

  • @ashleighnorton I do in fact write poetry

  • HOLY SH!T ! that was TEN minutes haha ! i didn't even notice it was soo good!! nice job!! :D Great Film!
