Thank you for posting this clip from Ms. Hutton's movie, "The Stork Club" . In spite of everything that has been said about her personal life, I like her. Her last interview with Robert Osborne was to me quite revealing. There was no guile, nothing fake or self-serving about her responses. She was just Betty, someone who was once at the zenith of stardom and who now knew that loving and being loved was all that really mattered.
I don't understand half the idiomatic expressions in this song. I mean, it was recorded 70 years ago! Like, "your the chick with slickest tricks"??? And I'm American. haha, but I love this. To think my grandparents may have listened to and enjoyed this.
Love this woman and adore this song. When I was listening to Fly Fly Away from the new Catch Me If You Can musical, I just about fell out of my chair laughing at "people only saw the doctor, lawyer, indian chief".

The Miracle of Morgan's Creek.....My favorite Betty film of all. Catch it if you can. How that film ever got made in that day and time and through the censors...pure genius!
Powerful, personality-packed, and listen how cleanly she nails those notes. No Auto-Tuning needed here, baby! Although she didn't get great scripts very often, she always had first-rate songwriters in her corner, and it's those songs that make her sound ever-fresh and vital. Most other female singers of her generation had voices that made them sound like somebody's mother, but Betty at her best has hardly dated at all.
Sir(s): "If I may, I would like to admonish you NOT to cross-up your Professions, so that NOBODY around anywhere is crossed-up Up-Stream in the Creek without a paddle....so to speak. Also, I am most glad that I, I, JAMES HOWARD DAY (JR.) did NOT BECOME "Dead Man Walking" like they apparently wanted, tried, & failed to make Me become." This is a True Statement to the Reader(s). The music was written by Hoagy Carmichael, the lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. The song was published in 1945.

(confidentially I confess) I'm sending the Injun Chief with the tommy-hawk back to Little-Rain-in-the-Face and tell him we like this and we like it loud!!!!
A #1 record for Capitol, among many she did. And I was there when it all happened, having been born in 1940. I remember when this issue came out and "His Rocking Horse Ran Away."
Bob Hope may have said it best when he referred to her as vitamin pill with legs. Hutton's enthusiasm and talent are second to none; indeed, if it could be harnessed, the energy crises would be ended.
The popular music of this era (roughly 1925-1950) includes some of the greatest ever written. Those who enjoy it will find the radio program "The Swingin' Years," with Chuck Cecil very rewarding.
On the air since 1956, with a huge collection of music and interviews Cecil made over the years, the program airs Sat & Sun, 0600-0900 Pacific Time (US) at kkjz-dot-org (KJazz).
Far more than mere entertainment, the program is also a history lesson of those who made this music - and their times.
Love her and love this movie. Love the song (by Hoagy Carmichael & P. Webster) and the arrangement by Paul Weston. Vocals are great, but it's Betty and those smooth moves that get me every time. Thanks for posting!

I agree with stareleades. WE definitley need more wonderful singers like her. Music today's just all about synthesizers and not actual talent. If you're attractive, and even if you're horrid at singing, you can still get fame. Which is really sad. Shows how times have changed.
Not to be repetitive, but I'm 16 and completely agree with both you and starleades. My favorite movies and music are classic masterpieces. People fall for all kinds of trash now, but luckily some of us know how to appreciate the good stuff. And we should be grateful to be able to. ^_^
Glad to see others here who can enjoy real talent! :D

I'm one of the musicals fans for whom Judy Garland is a favorite, but I have plenty of love for Miss Betty Hutton, as well. Also love her singing "Murder, He Says." TY for this clip.
I just now finished reading that book, too. Now I understand Betty so much better than I did before. She was quite a gal. (And thank goodness for Father McGuire!)
well, i'm manic, too, and need lots of attn...and love to sing..i love this kind of comedy..not looking for variety..but i wish if she had done more if she wanted to stay in the limelight....
Betty Hutton wasn't neglected during her active career-she was one of the TOP singer/actresses of the 40's-including a classic comedy by Preston Sturges. Despite her beauty, she went for brassy vocal antics, self-parody,& nearly manic comedy. She seemed desperately eager to please. In "Sunset Blvd," the studio chiefs suggest Bill Holden turn his script into a "female baseball movie" since "Paramount is always looking for Betty Hutton vehicles." Once she quite films, she plunged into obscurity.
Interesting how in those days, singers often sang songs even though the words clearly indicate they were meant to be sung by the opposite gender. This is a good example.
back then entertainers weren't so crazy about songs...you'd often hear 3 or more singers singing the same one...they each had different arrangements so they all sounded different...now one singer would sue another because they "stole" their song
She is so talented and beautiful. I bet she did the best she could to raise her kids, and hopefully someday she will appreciated by family. We love her.
Does anyone know why her 3 daughters would not have anything to do with her, and neither of them went to her funeral? That is so strange, no matter went on between them, she was still the women who gave them life, and deserved that last respect.
You raise a facet of Hutton's life that is painful to this day for her fans. Yes, her life had its peaks abd valleys! Maybe more valleys than peaks. I was in college in Rhode Island at the time she bottomed out and ended up in some low level job at Salve Regina, there in Newport. Loving friends kept up with her, whichis the good news, friends Bob Hope and Benay Venuta. Very painful memories for all of us!
Correction. Her first low level job in Rhode Island was at a rectory in Portsmouth. She ended at Salve Regina seeking a degree from that Newport institution of higher learning.
I've been tracking this lady and she is amazing, I love her voice and those dance moves. I never knew how she was but now I want to know more she's fantastic.
Wow! I'm impressed! She is amazing. This is the first time have ever seen her. I have heard of her and know she is the elder sister of Marian Hutton (Glenn Miller singer) But I never had the opportunity to experience her talent until now. Is she more poplar in film than radio? Thank you for this great peice!
Betty was one of the most popular movie stars in Hollywood between 1942 through 1952. Actually, she was two years younger than her sister. Read about her on the net, you will find that her life was like a movie as well. She passed last year at the age of 86.
I'm crazy about this clip! She was a bright shining star and her joy radiates right off the screen. It breaks my hear that her personal life was so troubled. Fortunately, so many of her on-screen performances are preserved for us to enjoy. I hope you're having fun with the angels in heaven, Betty!
Heaven recently got a beautiful angel....loud but incredible!!! She's one in a million...just seems to have so much fun when she performs......THANKS FOR POSTING!!!
LoveHowardBanister's comment is sad but true. For starters, for someone to try to emulate Betty Hutton, she would first have to take up Tae Bo or Turbo Jam just to get the spring and bounce that Betty once had. Then there are the intense voice and dance lessons etc.
As to the idea of Kate Blanchet playing Betty Hutton in a biopic I can't say that I agree. Renee Zellweger favors Betty the most. Plus she did well in Chicago-but= does she have the talent? As a matter of a fact, does anyone these days has half the talent that Betty had?
She was so good. She was a great actress and it's sad that she passed away awhile back. Her movies are always so fun and full of energy, and her songs were great, especially "I wish I didn't love you so"...heartbreaking.
i loove this song soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo go damn much <3
I love this video clip! Her voice, the way she dances and her beauty. I watched it several times before I actually noticed her back up singer/dancers. Betty Hutton was so unique! They don't make them like her anymore.
She had the comic talent & timing of Lucille Ball, and could REALLY sing! I wonder why she walked away from her career? She could have been a big TV star if she'd wanted it.
Don't forget Betty Huttons sister was Marion Hutton who sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. You can see Her in the movie Orchestra Wives and Sun Valley Serenade.
Add to that, you can type in youtube 'Glenn Miller people like you and me' or 'Glenn Miller Kalamazoo' then click Search button, and here's Marion Hutton performing some of her greatest songs.
I think she's also a cousin to female bandleader Ina Ray Hutton. Actually, Glenn Miller thought Betty was more talented, but that Marion would be easier to handle. Both Betty and Marion had emotional problems and drug and alcohol dependencies.
Betty Hutton was great in this movie, "The Stock Club" -- and Barry Fitzgerald was wonderful too. Wish they made movies like this nowadays. Betty had it all, she was good at singing, dancing, and comedy. rmaldrich
She is Good... but Judy Garland was the great talent! The better on the world!

Good summation of Betty Hutton's career. Awesome talent, but boy could she come on strong.

Weird video, but cool.

Interesting how in those days, singers often sang songs even though the words clearly indicate they were meant to be sung by the opposite gender. This is a good example.
vinylsingleman 3 years ago
back then entertainers weren't so crazy about songs...you'd often hear 3 or more singers singing the same one...they each had different arrangements so they all sounded different...now one singer would sue another because they "stole" their song

I just loved Betty when I was a little girl ... I wanted to grow up to be like her. I miss her!

She is so talented and beautiful. I bet she did the best she could to raise her kids, and hopefully someday she will appreciated by family. We love her.
cheyenne86 3 years ago
Does anyone know why her 3 daughters would not have anything to do with her, and neither of them went to her funeral? That is so strange, no matter went on between them, she was still the women who gave them life, and deserved that last respect.
mschest 3 years ago
In interviews late in her life she said she wished she had been a better mother. She didn't seem to blame her kids for the way they felt. Sad.
carrotville 3 years ago
well she shouldn't blame her kids if she was a lousy mother.yes,it is sad though.

Very painful memories for all of us!
ccaammiiittoo 3 years ago

It is so sad that she wasn't appreciated more by Hollywood... I love the tribute that Robert Osborne gave her on TCM.. Bless that man..

I'm crazy about this clip! She was a bright shining star and her joy radiates right off the screen. It breaks my hear that her personal life was so troubled. Fortunately, so many of her on-screen performances are preserved for us to enjoy. I hope you're having fun with the angels in heaven, Betty!

Jewel could handle the vocals and the look, but the acting and dancing might be another story.

LoveHowardBanister's comment is sad but true. For starters, for someone to try to emulate Betty Hutton, she would first have to take up Tae Bo or Turbo Jam just to get the spring and bounce that Betty once had. Then there are the intense voice and dance lessons etc.
johnnynazz52 3 years ago
No one today can do that.

As to the idea of Kate Blanchet playing Betty Hutton in a biopic I can't say that I agree. Renee Zellweger favors Betty the most. Plus she did well in Chicago-but= does she have the talent? As a matter of a fact, does anyone these days has half the talent that Betty had?
johnnynazz52 3 years ago
She is so fun! I didn't know about Betty either. Thank you for posting.

She was so good. She was a great actress and it's sad that she passed away awhile back. Her movies are always so fun and full of energy, and her songs were great, especially "I wish I didn't love you so"...heartbreaking.

I love this video clip! Her voice, the way she dances and her beauty. I watched it several times before I actually noticed her back up singer/dancers. Betty Hutton was so unique! They don't make them like her anymore.
mfbruck4 4 years ago 2
She had the comic talent & timing of Lucille Ball, and could REALLY sing! I wonder why she walked away from her career? She could have been a big TV star if she'd wanted it.

Don't forget Betty Huttons sister was Marion Hutton who sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. You can see Her in the movie Orchestra Wives and Sun Valley Serenade.
Georgewos 4 years ago
Add to that, you can type in youtube 'Glenn Miller people like you and me' or 'Glenn Miller Kalamazoo' then click Search button, and here's Marion Hutton performing some of her greatest songs.
medamine39 4 years ago
I think she's also a cousin to female bandleader Ina Ray Hutton. Actually, Glenn Miller thought Betty was more talented, but that Marion would be easier to handle. Both Betty and Marion had emotional problems and drug and alcohol dependencies.
karens18cats 3 years ago
what actress then, didn't?
I don't mean to sound sarcastic or anything, but honestly, most of them do. Judy Garland, too.

I remember Ms. Hutton from "the Greatest Show on Earth". Thought she was just an actress. WOW.

The only other entertainer that could match Betty Hutton's energy and talent level was Mickey Rooney, another once-in-a-hundread-year phenomena.
