  • I live thirty minutes from Myrtle Beach. This song takes me back to when the Pavilion was still around. I agree with joettalin. I boycott if the Bowery ever goes away. There is nothing to Myrtle Beach now. It's nothing like it was when I was a kid.

  • Burroughs and Chapin Reality has been the ruin of the GREATEST East Coast Beach in the USA. Money talks and the people get screwed. Sell out the Pavilion and the Park for Hard Rock Park. Can' t have one when the other still exsists. Money over ethics. Burroughs and Chapin gives a bunch of money to Horry County to call their shots. But? Horry county is it worth it. Tradition? Gone. Mother Feltcher's Gone. Get the Point? The Bowery is next.

  • i love how ppl from all over the internet world are talking where i live.

  • This has to be one of the greatest country songs to date. Singing about something real, not what will "sell" in today's industry. One of the greatest country bands (if not the best) of all time.

  • So cool.

  • I was born in 1990 and when I was young, but old enough to remember how it was those were the best times. Myrtle Beach will never be the same and its a shame that the pavilion was closed down, it was a historical landmark and well appreciated and fun place for family. Im glad to say that I was there the last day it was open. I miss the old M.B. so many great times.

  • Have listened to Alabama since they first got started. Our kids, and GRANDKIDS listen to their music. It's timeless. And in our 60's now, wife and I can STILL embarrasse the kids when we dance to this. lol

  • timeless classic. alabama will live forever

  • shaggin means sex here in australia so this song has a weird atmosphere about it lol

  • @crazyknight2008 means the same thing here but it is also a type of dance.

  • Sooooooooooo love this song!!!

  • Good times then......Not so good now

  • great music.cheers!!

  • this sure brings a lot of good ol times wish i was in the 80s again

  • Makes me wanna cry!! Where did this all go????

  • This is the Myrtle Beach of yesterday...... but we still shag!!!

  • This song is so comforting.

  • that dude in the cowboy hat still works the door at the bowery

  • i dont want 2 sound stupid....but whats shaggin??

  • @101barngirl a dance that originated in the Grand Strand known as the Carolina Shag. Also known as shaggin

  • @SENOREIDA123 ooo ok thanks

  • I miss the Pavilion :(

  • whew thats old Myrtle Beach.... nothin like that anymore. Used to be a great place, definatley the place to be.

  • When was this video made ?

  • one of my favorite alabama songs

  • Man, I miss The Attic and the Pavilion....just glad Peaches, Bowrey, and Ocean Front Grille is still there...

  • @1975 our family went for a holday at M.B. We were at south M.B. The motel was then a Holiday Inn. Outside the hotel was parked a bus with the "Alabama" logo on it. They had a concert there for the weekend. As fate would have it 2 of the guys in the band rode up the elevator with us. I was too dumb struck to even introduce my family. Guys if you ever see this my stupidity took over me. Yes my goodlooking black-haired wife with me.

  • Great Video! great song. SUPERB Dancing. That gal in red is WORKING IT! WooHoot!!

  • Country legends. Awesome music!

  • Filmed at a bar at Carolina Beach, NC. My best friend lived close by at the time and told me about it.

  • @donnasueinnewhope this is actually several spots on ocean blvd in myrtle beach. the guys used to play the bowery on the blvd all the time for free beer.

  • @donnasueinnewhope

The inside scene where the people are dancing,,shot at a bar in Carolina Beach.

  • Did they actually film the music scenes form inside Mother Fletchers? It certainly looks like it from my memory of being in there at around that time. Another place that sadly isn't there anymore......

  • I wish that the state of South Carolina would make this song the offical song of The State

  • I wish that the state of South Carolina would make this song the offical song of The State

  • Funny how everytime I hear this song no matter how much I cant stand South Carolina this song always makes me wanna go to Myrtle Beach.

  • MB is now just a carcass of what it used to be. Highrise hotels are taking place of the small mom and pop motels I remember as I kid, the streets have become overrun with teens and college students that have no sense (no longer a family atmosphere), and they tore down the main gem, The Pavilion. It's sad that my son will never know Myrtle Beach the way it used to be (like in this video). Let's hope the Gay Dolphin, Peaches Corner & The Bowery are never torn down. That's all that's left now. :(

  • @triplej2002 A couple of years ago @ M.B. we went into a seafood restaurant to eat. As we looked over the menu's they had porpoise or dolphin meat on their menu. People when we start having to eat these mammals something is very wrong. What is not said is that fish stocks are overfished. This has got to stop. We'll be eating the seed corn next. It's time we got serious about our world and save it from a population bomb. It may already be too late.

  • oh yeah im 40 min from Myrtle beach. my mom knew these guys before they hit big!love this band!!!

  • So proud to say I got my first beer at the bowery and the cover band is no Alabama but there pretty damn good

  • Man, this video brings so many memories. My mom teaching us kids to Shag. Telling us stories of how Alabama played at the Bowery. IT was a mystical time all those years ago. MB has always had that effect. It was so cool to walk the strip at night while on vacation and see all the lights. And you didn;t experience The Pavilion unless you rode the Corkscrew and the Rainbow. MAn............

  • i've been to myrtle beach all my life. it's a damn shame they tore down the pavillion. and for what? some piece of shit condo development that hasn't even been set in stone yet. i swear if they take out the bowery i'm boycotting horry county. it's just so lifeless anymore. sad is what it is.

  • @joettalin Nice i lived in garden city for some time

  • @joettalin Well at least there's Family Kingdom. That place is still there. Myrtle Beach is a Pigeon Forge on the coast. Its got just about the same things that Pigeon Forge has.

  • I am from Myrtle Beach and was born in 1990 and remember all the things on the boulevard, like motherfletchers and the pavilion and all that. I was young but still remember those things, they will all be missed very much...!

  • Good to see the Pavilion in this video. I miss seeing the Rainbow ride sitting there on the corner, but i've got a Good feeling about that SkyWheel, and can't wait to see it and ride it! =) Maybe they'll build a new Pavilion arcade, an up-to-date one that's more hi-tech than the last one that sat there. I'd love to see some fairground rides where the Pavilion once was, along with a nice, big roller coaster!

  • Alabama is some of the best country you'll listen too! Didn't like Brad Paisley until i heard his song Old Alabama!

  • all hail mighty Alabama i love all there songs this is what music should be

  • Alabama hit #3 in Billboard, 9-20-97. No offense meant here, gang, but, God bless! It's how I ALWAYS end my comments. God bless, especially to the Alabama cousins!

  • this is the best song on that album

  • I love love love this, want to learn the dance, looks like alot of fun!

  • i remember riding through myrtle beach as a kid and my parents playing this song telling me about where all these places were, love this song

  • When I was little I LOVED this song!!!!!

Instead of saying "...on the boulevard" I said "...on the polapond" ......dont ask!

  • Man i love the fact that i can say that i am from Myrtle Beach,SC (Garden City) and i know all the places. I'm stationed in Norfolk till june and i will have had 6 years in the military so I'll get to return to this legendary boulevard! Anyone who has been there knows that the place has a magic that is totally unique!

  • peaches is still there although they tore down the pavillion and the rest of the good stuff. the bowery is there still....the city built a really nice boardwalk along that area though and it should be back to its glory within a year or so

  • @ahlinebe I know the lead singer of the band that is at the Bowery now, good dude with good music!

  • @ahlinebe I hope so. I can't wait for the skywheel and the Landshark Bar and Grille to be finished. You are right. Some times a place or area goes through a down turn only to be reborn. I love that area and I have friends who worked there

  • Peaches Corner! Loved that place every time i visited! anyone know if it's still there? i haven't been in over 12 years!

  • I love just about all their songs

  • this is not just a song it's a HISTORY LESSON,CHILDREN!!! GTO 64 !!T-Bird 57?? man i love this song and video....this is not just a song it's "EVERYTOWN USA" from that era...HANGOUTS every where!! correct me if I'm wrong!!!

  • @tclarke909 sooo true!

  • @tclarke909 Amen! I rememebr going there with my family and my dad and I would sit on the benches right out side the magic attic watching the traffic and the lights of the pavilion. I was there in sept. 2006 for the last ride. its sad that our americana like that is dissappearing left and right. this is a history lesson.

  • if u go down this year stop at peaches corner and the Bowery it still feels like the old myrtle beach in 1989 it was the place to b and ur right HORRY CO RULZES

  • @dmtmjones man reading the comments here just makes me think back to being there in the mid eighties. moved there from the city in jersey and thought i went to heavan. Yes it was cool as hell in 89 also.

  • dam those were the good old days mother flethers Rock burger Aka fight burger all the lost boys were in good health n still kicking 544 partys wackatee zoo the beach at garden city pier KINGs ROAD Castaways hotel was sitting in sloppy joes when the oj vertic came threw WTF >.. Now im going to have to listen to "givin it up for your love". My dad always shoots the shit with sugar bear when he goes in there. Last i heard his health had declined a bit, but anyway yeah HORRY is definitely for the win!

  • without a doubt the best song Alabama ever made, and the video is superb. Some of the best dance moves I have ever seen, I would like to see more videos like this one

  • Thank goodness they made this video,,,all of these places are torn down now.

  • love love love this song.....headed to NMB this weekend to go shag :-)

  • 3 cheers for the old Pavillion ! I spent summer 1964 playing in a music group in the "attic"...1 night before going on stage, it rained like crazy, I sliced my finger to the bone shutting an old dressing room window. Now I hate that it's all gone forever.

  • i thought i'd never hear this song again. i asked a few of my friends if they remembered this song and they said it didn't even sound familiar. i was beginning to think i'd lost it.

  • i love this song and this is the only place i can find it for free but i was woundering does anyone know what cd of theres that this song is on ?

  • @surfergirl10126 Dancin SHagging on the boulevard is the name of the album. Got it in my car....

  • I want to learn how to Shag. It looks fun.

  • i really miss alabama i wish they would to a comback tour. They got back together recently for a Waylon Jennings tribute but i would like more. I never got a chance to see them live and I would really love too.

  • Times change and so does music, I want to go back in time and savor music back then... I miss the late 80's and 90's.

  • Screw Myrtle Beach's city council. They ruined the whole city by destroying everything from the past (basically 90% of what is in this song). Modern country music sucks about as bad as the city council.

    * modern country excludes: Jamey Johnson, Justin Moore, Miranda Lambert (yeah her fiancee is a poser), Josh Thompson, Randy Houser, Brantley gilbert, and hell even Colt Ford and Kid Rock are more country than the rest of them

  • I love this video but have always wondered what dancing style this is, it is absolutely awesome and would love to learn it

  • @rain792000 That's just what the song says, it's the Shag. If you've ever been Myrtle Beach, or just about any dance hall in NC or SC, you will see this dance. The "natives" of the two states consider this their state dance. They learn to Shag from age 5 or 6! There are professional dance teams, like Dancing With The Stars, who enter contests & win BIG $. The dance is similar to the Swing, but MUCH smoother, learned with a book on their heads. If you can dance with the book, then you're smooth.

  • @rain792000 I tried to reply, but now it's gone, so don't know whether you'll get it or not. If you don't, please contact me & I'll explain again. The dance is as the song says, it's the SHAG.

  • Well not all the bars are gone. And jeff Cook has a new band

  • The Band and bars are gone. This is Bull _ h _ t.

  • Used to go to the Bowery and listen for hours. They used to play for tips. Been to one June Jam once in Ft. Payne. Such good times.

  • In 1961 I was a kid at USC & one night I drank a lot of that rot-gut draft beer at the Bowery...next morning I went to Sloppy Joes' to eat breakfast, got sick & vomited my

guts out. I stayed in the sun so long I blistered my legs so bad I couldn't walk....

  • The girl with the yellow and white bikini top and black slacks looked sexy in this video, I even admired her bellybutton as well, I just hope that doesn't sound too odd about the girl's bellybutton.

  • Classic! Love going by the bowery and the history behind it

  • Alabama has SOOOO many good hits. I could listen to their songs ALL day. They're my favorite country band. I didn't realzie they sang this song. One of my favs. I wish I would've gotten to see them before they retired..

  • from conway myself Horry county sure has changed lived at castaways many winters long gone now all the goodstuff hey sugar bear is still at the bowery not sure

  • Yep,they ruined it.I was raised here before it happened and got to see the good times. Now the Pavillions gone, mother flethers gone, anti cruising laws, etc, etc, etc,

  • @TheUSA1945 Anti-cruising? That one of the stupidest things I've ever heard about. One goes to M.B. to see & be seen. M.B. brings in a lot of revenue for the state. What fool would want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg? Don't they understand the as long as buildings are safe & functional they should never be torn down. Old does not mean ugly. We're not talking about any old place; we're talking about M.B. It is the one place where everything you ever wanted in a party is there.

  • Best song ever

  • the strand is just not the same anymore the pavilion is gone and that is a sure shame that there will be kids who will never know what a great place it was

  • These are the sweet, sweet memories of Myrtle Beach!

  • Amen rdoggvf. They ruined the blvd.

  • Some very classy ladies in this video... sucks being about that age now and knowing those kinds of girls very rarely exist these days... I miss the 90's. Better times. Better music.

  • I'm 34 years old and when I was a teenager the strand at Myrtle beach was the place to be on the weekends. This song sure does bring back some great memories. I wish my kid would get to experience the strand the way it use to be. Now there's nothing up there.

  • @092119761 : Im with you on this all the way I was born in 1990 and when I was young, but old enough to remember how it was those were the best times. Myrtle Beach will never be the same and its a shame that the pavilion was closed down, it was a historical landmark and well appreciated and fun place for family. Im glad to say that I was there the last day it was open. I miss the old M.B. so many great times.

  • @092119761 the city of myrtle beach is to blame spend more money on hiring cops and making new crazy laws then they do trying to bring back the fun

  • Myrtle Beach was the place to be before they started changing everything around, now noone really goes up there. i know if you come to Charleston we doing shaggin on the cooper every summer, just have to check and see when the next time is. Great music and lots of fun.

  • @rdoggvf722 Amen! I grew up around there.

  • You think local government has screwed up mrytle beach in SC. You should see how bad the local demigods have screwed up wrightsville and carolina beaches in NC.

  • @deeredad

I lived there from 1984 till 2004. HORRIBLE TURN AROUND.. TERRIBLE TO SEE.!!

  • @rdoggvf722 Agreed.

  • @rdoggvf722

AMEN.. I grew up in Wilmington, NC. We would skip school on Fri and head to the strip. Some of the best times I have had in this life of mine.. Spring beak was the STUFF OF LEGENDS...
