The ends do not justify the means. You cannot end a life to benefit another's. As far as embryonic stem cells go, even if they were to be discarded anyway, murder of an embryo is still wrong. - because the killing of an embryo in and of itself is wrong. The morality of an action is not based on consequence of an action.
I am against abortion! No one should kill a baby. A life for a life does not make sense regardless of its possible results that can be beneficial! Stem cells are great but take them from adults not embryos!!!
embryonic stem cell research is taken from embryos that are going to be discarded (e.g. embryos from couples using invitro fertilization). either way the embryo will be gone, so the way i see it - why not use it to save a life?
My response was going to be pretty much what dalttleguy said (it is not abortion or a life for a life) and that sacrifices of real people for the better good of all is made all the time (what are troops?). It is a necessity.
