Well, we now know, since they were convicted last month (Oct or Nov 09) of negligence, not of the levies but of that pathway through the middle (can't remember the name of it). So they were guilty the whole time, and vigoriously projecting your deeds on your victims is what the guilty and bullies do. It is either the plan or its sick incompetence either way it's wrong and it stinks.
I can see that some leveys or any world wide structure gives way to nature from not being maintained and having preventive measures on occassion. But the idea of some saying that Bush persae had someone go and blow it up to on purpose harm, I don't find this true at all. I have researched it and still cannot find this is the fact. But the whole USA and planet in need of fixing up, yeah, that is evident.
US Senator Mary Landrieu just issued this statement 5:09 CST:
"I am very concerned by the reports that a number of Corps employees have engaged in a disingenuous campaign to undercut their critics in Louisiana, Landrieu said. My staff and I will continue to review these allegations and will urge Pentagon officials to thoroughly review this matter."
Almost 200 years of this corrupt Army Corp. Read "Rising Tide", all about the lead up to the 1927 flood. It's unbelievable. Pure capitalism does not work. We've never had it anyway. It has to be a combination of socialism and capitalism with an emphasis on protecting the people, the socialist part. That's the part which is regulation of business. and government projects.
When the people stop acting like a bunch of buffoon slaves who obsess over Michael Jackson's death instead of getting outraged that HR2454, based on the fake global warming hoax, passed the House on Friday and is going to be the basis of total enslavement.
The Federal Government will start representing the people when we as a nation stop acting like ignorant, helpless slaves, ignore the chatterboxes in the mainstream media and start participating in the political process.
I think that Congress must make a 8/29 Commission a priority before another great American city is destroyed by floodwaters. I also think that Attorney General Holder needs to open an investigation into these allegations. From what the video presents, it certianly seems that government employees committed crimes.
The flood was all Army Corps issue. The federal govt increased its budget 50% in Obama's first year, and yet NOT ONE EXTRA PENNY for levees! What about his promise to 'make it right?'
The negligence of the Corp of Engineers has my family living outside of our home. The world has seen how lazy
and greedy the owners of this country (corporate America) really are. This can no longer be a country that people are proud of. It is self-serving - all to the dwindling dollar.
We don't have a DEMOCRACY, WE HAVE a capital corporate plutocracy. Democracy can only function with rules and regulations, capitalism swallowed up democracy, everything exists in this country for corporations not for people. New Orleans is a great example. Lobbyists control the laws.
We have not been living under capitalism, it's been government intervention in the market and the federal reserve that swallowed up democracy. Who do you think the lobbyist and corporations get their sweet deals from? Our government and our politicians. In a real free market corporations would not be able to make these kind of deals without the help of our government , corporate favoritism and our taxes. Thus, they could not become "too big to fail"!
The Dutch learned through their catastrophic flooding in 1953 to make water management their #1 PRIORITY to PROTECT their country and their people. The USA is so indebted to corporations that they ignore their obligations to this country and its people. It is a DISGRACE.
PEOPLE MUST DEMAND SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS---protect our cities and our homes.
There can be no doubt that the cause of the flooding of New Orleans should be independently investigated. It is unreasonable to expect the Corps or agencies dependent on the Corps provide an unbiased investigation.
Those levees should have been a LOCAL responsibility and the rebuilding should be as well. the federal government should be responsible for it in the least.
Under federal law, the Flood Control Act of 1965, only the federal government is allowed to design and build the levees in New Orleans. That is why the Corps' failure is a federal responsibility.
TRossi, why don't you become informed before making a dumb comment. It is NOT a local responsibility, it is the responsibility of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT by LAW.
Good investigation.. Many lives ae at stake not just in New Orleans but in all areas of the country that depend on the corp to keep them safe. The government needs to crack down on the ineffective personel and start firing. No area that depends on the Corp is safe until the Corp personel are top rate...
I am struck by the ignorance of some of these comments.
Yet one can't help but wonder if the energy spent on finding blame were applied to rebuilding....
I remember the days following the flooding and finally the rescue filled with the hope that our beloved city would step into the future as beacon for change...what went wrong?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Free speech applies to everyone. If the citizens of New Orleans wish to avoid the impact of flooding, they must refrain from building a city in a hole in the ground bounded by the ocean and a lake, and demand that other taxpayers foot the bill. The Army Corps are taxpayers, too. Yet another example of the moral hazard of the American people and their insistence upon big government, in lieu of accepting risk.
Not so. Federal (civil service) employees are governed by The Hatch Act which limits political activity. In addition, the Corps of Engineers, as a part of the military is governed by Department of Defense Directive 1344.10.
This sort of behavior is grounds for termination.
The right to free speech, as in opinion, such as was expressed by the members of the Corps, belongs to the group of inalienable rights, and cannot be simply signed away. Except for the likes of North Korea, and other states of a similar ilk. Nor can it be argued that they are guilty of using Federal property to propagate their opinion, since they contributed towards its cost, as state and/or federal taxpayers. Again, you are arguing vis-à-vis moral hazard.
Federal (civil service) employees are governed by The Hatch Act which limits activity. In addition, the Corps of Engineers, as a part of the military is governed by Department of Defense Directive 1344.10.
This sort of behavior is grounds for termination.
Well that simply reinforces the argument that the government should not be building cities, into which a social underclass, of whatever colour, is channeled, and is obliged to suffer the consequences. The US is 2.5 times the size of western Europe and has 70% of the population. Therefore, there are many other opportunities for people to live in locales, which do not suffer from extreme flooding. The delights of Bourbon street, etc., are portable.
The city was founded 289 years ago on high ground along the Mississippi River and was originally 125 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.
The Port of New Orleans is the largest in the US and the fourth largest in the world. 62% of the consumer-spending public in the U.S. receive their goods through the Port.
NO YOU ARE WRONG, PreCursed, the areas that flooded were not predominantly Black. That is a myth due to the media filming and televising african americans at the superdome. However, there were people of all colors, nationalities and religions who were flooded by the FAILED LEVEE SYSTEM. It is obsolete, poorly constructed, placed in extremely bad soil. We need to have the Dutch Engineers who have expertise in water management. They have offered their help and we must accept that offer.
Alright. That makes sense because the only stuff i saw was blacks on tv.(go figure) so idk why i even commented. It failed because the land under it washed away because they weren't deep enough into it?
What's hilarious is that I've been confronting some posters on many sites doing the same thing. I believe there is concerted effort by the government to decry any dissent from government's policies. Look at what Obama's supposed fact police did on the net during his campaign. I bet he had over 1000 bloggers attacking and slandering anyone that brought any intelligent rhetoric to the campaign. You have to know your enemy people and I believe our government has become our enemy. WAKE UP AMERICA
o Israel has killed Americans (eg. Sailors on USS Liberty, Rachel Corrie, etc...)

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the state can shield the people from the political, economic, and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the state to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state" - Nazi Propaganda Minister, Dr Joseph Goebbels. (9/11Truthers are now be characterized as terrorist, is anyone really surprised?)
Right - using government employees and government property on government time to attack and defame American citizens? I'm shocked! Then lying about it when confronted? I'm doubly shocked!
I am sure the Congress and the Obama administration will be investigating this, just as soon as they are finished investigating the Bush / Cheney war crimes.
They are one and the same so nothing once again will be done. Look at the election prospects!! I saw nothing different between the two major pary canididates. Nothing is going to change except maybe the speed that happens to bring us to where they want us to be.
Interesting video, but not amazing. Keeping in mind that the U.S. government engineered, carried out and covered up the 9/11 terror attacks, why wouldn't they engage in abusing Katrina victims? It looks almost harmless!
The fake 9/11 witness known as the Harley Shirt Guy has been identified as actor MARK ADRIAN HUMPHREY - and a team of disinformation agents is right now doing this exact thing.
Yesterday not only did Humphrey have entire channels deleted and claim copyright on videos depicting his image in this light but he claimed copyright on the FOX footage itself if uploaded to an adversarial account and had it deleted CLAIMING COPYRIGHT!
I knew it was all a government Op. with Katrina from top to bottom when it happened. Never had I seen such devastation. People DEAD in the streets for WEEKS, people left to drown to death in jail - People left to STARVE or die of dehydration - I could barely work at my job during that catastrophe.
Then NOTHING happened - no one came to help - no one - Then you have assholes like Shawn Hannity screaming on the radio that everyone there was "drug users and this is what you get!" word for word.
I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! If they can find evidence of THIS - then I am SURE they have DISINFO agents EVERYWHERE.
THIS IS THE REAL WORLD! A world where The Government MURDERS people, Tortures innocent people including children and sits on its hands making excuses while people die in the streets from a hurricane.
For me, Katrina was a HUGE wake-up call. It really turbo-charged my entry into the "New World Order" and population reduction. Katrina was a deliberate "fumble", no accident. Research it!
YouTube video view counts and ratings are not factual. They admit to "algorithmically demote" your counts if they so wish. Are you aware of that?? They remove ANYTHING they want, WHENEVER they want, and don't tell you so, as well. They also shut down accounts and go after people who might raise questions like done in this video. Remember Cynthia McKinney's video of the mom who told her about the 5,000 corpses in N.O. marshes with a single bullet wound to the head that her son confessed to?
Plans to Protest in the streets of New Orleans just like in Tehran? Great idea, I'll be there along with hundreds of friends and family, colleagues and advocates. Just name the time, the place, the date and SEND TWEET! We support the people of New Orleans #corpslies.
Tehran PROTEST = NEW ORLEANS PROTEST !!!!!!!! Save our City !!!!!!!
Be careful, 4nola27, that's just what they want you to do.The can declare martial law and put you all in prison camps like gitmo and you will never have a hearing to get out. FEMA camps are there! Be careful. The homeland security laws already allow for this. Katrina was a practice run for what they want to do. Look up North American Union.
N.O. is the new entry port straight up the Mississippi. Sadly, it makes too much sense. Never say "That wouldn't happen in the USA"
I am so happy that BrassCheck put up this video. NOW I KNOW WHY, BrassCheck's connection was down for a long time. I couldn't connect with ANY thing. I just got an email that their servers were shut down. Hhhmmm....well, gee, that COULD'NT have been the Army Corps of Engineers, now, COULD it!! YouTube has changed dramatically since it, and google, have been bought out by USA, inc.. And my comments go thru a major effort over and over to get posted, and I have many friends with the same problem.
When the government actually cares about results it hires outside contractors for design and construction. If the government actually tried to build fighter planes they would work about as well as the levees in New Orleans. The job of the military is to kill people and break things. The job of the Corps is to help the Army get to where it needs to kill people and break things.
It's certainly no big surprise. We citizens of the New Orleans area are certainly no strangers to this type of bullsh*t. The government keeps blaming us for, well, basically just living there--as though we can all just up and move somewhere else. This is our home. They just don't want to take responsibility for their actions (or INACTIONS, rather). It's about time someone calls these bastards on the part they have played in the devastation which has occurred.
USACE using tax payer dollars to deceive the tax payers...? Covering their behinds...by confusing the public. Let's see now, how many cities in America depend on Corps protection? How many states...? They have to cover their blunders in New Orleans--just think what might happen if the rest of the country learned the truth...
Our Big Brother government is straight out of Orwell's 1984. It just gets worse by the day with Obama now having 22 Czars to control most of our activities. Cyber-Czar=goodbye free internet and free speech. Million man home security force= enforce submission to the State.
All of us in the New Orleans area know that the US government and the Corps destroyed New Orleans intentionally. They knew how bad the construction was and they have spent 40 years playing with a project that was planned after Hurricane Betsy. The Corps must be abolished before they destroy other great American cities like San Francisco, Boston, New York City, Washington,D.C............They are not qualified to do the work that is required. New Orleans plans a protest like Tehran very soon
I have been noticed that my comments has been blocked from different sites, when I make comments dissent from norm propagandas. Also, lots of web-site you watched day before were removed later days. YouTube often blocked my plain comments without any
reasons whatsoever. And I receive hate, nasty e-mails often from the YouTube viewers.
So you know the web-site is monitored, controlled and watched.
Imagine a police officer who flubs a case and then goes online anonymously saying the victims were "stupid", and deserved what they got.
Now imagine the officer was dim enough to use police equipment -- equipment almost always routed via a fixed IP address leased to his employer -- and that the office figured this would preserve his anonymity.
Yea - my family moved to New Orleans in the early 70s - well after the levees were built. Yes we continued to watch our city sink (which was a side effect of the levees in the first place) and watch the corps continue to use federal money to protect us. Now they say we were foolish to live there in the first place... Well - why did you continue to spend fed. money protecting us if it was stupid in the first place?? And why did you continue to tell us we were safe from a cat 2 if we werent?
Dispicable tactics...every citizen of N.O. knows what the deal is here with the Corp and the Failure of the levee system...with the rresult of the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. Shame on the corps for the attempted subtrefuge
They were not. You can read all about it on Jon Donley's website. He explains why he came forward and he says that during the height of the activity, "...it would have been, in fact, a full-time job for one or more people to have conducted this activity."
@knowhelpnow: My house, like much of the real estate in new orleans, is actually ABOVE sea level. Should I be allowed to live there, and to rebuild? And what "tab" do you think is being picked up? Nobody's paying for rebuilding New Orleans but the residents ourselves. People need to realize that New Orleans is not the only American city protected by levees, and the levee failure is entirely the fault of the USACE.
This is no surprise to me. If they don't understand why we were below sea level in the first place, ask them why they built the levee in the first place.
My question would be: "If the Army Corps of Engineers knew that it was not safe to live next to the levee, then why didn't they do something about it before the storm?"
Keep up the good work. You have a new subscriber;)
Typical government tactic, as in the way they threw the guards at Abu Ghraib under the bus saying they were "isolated Instances" when we now know that the torture orders went all the way to that pig Cheney's office. At least they didn't try to use Popular Mechanics this time, lol....
A new low for the Corps. The only sink-hole is that building and it's our money that's draining away.
By the way, how are the levees looking? Regardless, I'm sure the Corps is doing the right thing, this time. I feel safer everyday.
Looking for accountability? Don't count on it. It hasn't happened yet. I'm glad to see that we have citizens who are calling them on their bs. Silence is complicity.
I started hearing this blame the victim right after it happened, though it was some right wing nuts. This is pretty bad but I really don't believe it is unusual when I think about it.
I don't think they should rebuild New Orleans or the let people build and rebuild on lands like in CA where they keep having forest fires and mud slides, this picking up the tab is not really good for our country, to live under the water table is not a good idea at least to me.
this is posted here to counter concern trolls like yourself. and you're wrong. "this picking up the tab" when the fault lies entirely with the government and its agents is really good for the country--whether anyone lives "under the water table" or not; which, incidentally, they didn't. the floods wiped out areas that were above as well as below. concern troll.
The 'corp' is probably worried that what will turn up is not the corp being the place where the buck stops, rather, FEMA who may of blown the levies. What I heard was the levy's were fine and were put to dynamite following the storm... party responsible ... FEMA for the purpose of flooding out that part of the city. My instincts say it was probably FEMA and the 'CORP' responding was all for steering the investigation away from FEMA. They are the rogue state.
This is disgraceful. I want my tax dollars building strong levees for New Orleans, not supporting Corps of Engineer employees trying to falsely undermine the folks trying to bulid those strong levees. Investigate YES!
Use of employer's computers is not right for government employees. We, the taxpayers are paying for this equipment. I hope they do look into this matter.
Employees were directed to do this and they did it on "company" time which means tax payers paid for it. And the Times-Picayune has known about this all along and let it ride. Somebody needs to go to jail over this and New Orleanians should start canceling their subscriptions to the paper right now. Local advertisers should start pulling their ads too. Google AdWords is a better deal anyway.
Sandy, the people of New Orleans, and all of us who value free speech and truth and who have the guts to go against the system - we thank you for your amazing work. Shame on the government officials who have allowed this to happen! This has many parallels to 9/11. Keep up the good work. The American citizen deserves much, much better than this!
I've worked for several DoD agencies that all strictly forbad employees from using Government PC for anything other than official business. Security staff systimatically monitored internet traffic for unofficial traffic.
If we have IP addresses showing that the Corps use of taxpayer dollars to bash New Orleans and its people, why can't we sue to get the taxpayer dollars back? I would like my tax dollars used to help--not hurt the regrowth effort in New Orleans.
I believe Corps' management unofficially condones these clandestine media campaigns by their employees in New Orleans. The Army officers are fighting their best war against everyone outside the Corps and the local Corps' employees feel the need to deny what they did and shift blame to anyone and anything other than their own organization. They are doing something very wrong and should be investigated by Congress and forced to reform into a trustworthy organization. This stupidity must stop.
Investigated by Congress? Why should we trust the corrupt to investigate the corrupt? Trustworthy and Government is an oxymoron- Our leaders are just morons.
The corp is the only game in town. Why? In the past, they have had no obligation to do right because they could not be held responsible for anything they did whether it was intentional or not. Why can't we figure out what we need to do to protect our citizens and then find the money. That's what the Dutch did. I keep hearing people say we are the greatest country on the earth. Well, we could be. Prove it!
It's time the people became educated to the real facts about how the Corps (and other government entities) really operate. It's negligence and sham tactics that border on criminal!
The Corps committed murder of over 1600 people because the levees failed on flood structures ok'd by the Corps. In June, 2005, the Times-Picayune published a cover story about how the Orleans Levee Board spent only 3 hours inspecting levees, then went to the pricey restaurant Galatoire's for a big lunch at tax payers' expense. These same goons who attack those who criticize the Corps also make ugly slurs and attacks at other nola.forums as well, and I have reasons for thinking so.
powerful and convincing. one thing i would like to point out, if it is ok? it is orleanian(s), not new orleanian(s). it is another of our odd traditions and, personally, i would not like to lost it.
The Corps poorly designed, built and managed levees failed destroying my community and several others. Now they have employees using taxpayer funded computers to attack their detractors and attempt to spin their failure to protect us.
The Corps needs to be roto-rootered. The guilty employees need disciplinary action. Most companies do not allow their employees to post on blogs while on company computers, why should my tax dollars be used for this?
This has been the most disgusting, unethical behavior by the Corps. We are tired of ,oh we should not live here. We lived here all our lives, many of the elderly here went thru two losses, Hurricane Betsy and Katrina. They lost all they owned twice in a lifetime. If the Corps thinks this is amusing, then those whom have made the comments, should be FIRED. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH PR. The President of the United States needs to be made aware!!
Keep up the good work. If people in Los Angeles and other parts of this country believe they are immune from this type of incompetence, they need to think again. Make Levees Not War.
This is nothing new for government organizations to use covert operatives to go online and discredit anyone that would dare to shed light on wrongdoing and coruption.
I have become so cynical of this country, these tactics don't even surprise me anymore. Thanks Sandy for keeping up the good fight. It will take a dedicated electorate to get to the bottom of this evil. I want my country back!
The corps was all around ineffective. I still remember the absurdity of the corps doing helicopter drops of mud to try and stop the flooding. It wasn't until a local contractor went in and closed the canal with metal interlocking pilings that the whole thing started getting under control. What a farce.
If these guys were as good at flood protection as they are at spin and deception and subversion of their critics, they never would have destroyed New Orleans.

Good investigation.. Many lives ae at stake not just in New Orleans but in all areas of the country that depend on the corp to keep them safe. The government needs to crack down on the ineffective personel and start firing. No area that depends on the Corp is safe until the Corp personel are top rate...

Free speech applies to everyone. If the citizens of New Orleans wish to avoid the impact of flooding, they must refrain from building a city in a hole in the ground bounded by the ocean and a lake, and demand that other taxpayers foot the bill. The Army Corps are taxpayers, too. Yet another example of the moral hazard of the American people and their insistence upon big government, in lieu of accepting risk.
charlessmyth 2 years ago
Not so. Federal (civil service) employees are governed by The Hatch Act which limits political activity. In addition, the Corps of Engineers, as a part of the military is governed by Department of Defense Directive 1344.10.
This sort of behavior is grounds for termination.
LeveesOrg 2 years ago
The right to free speech, as in opinion, such as was expressed by the members of the Corps, belongs to the group of inalienable rights, and cannot be simply signed away. Except for the likes of North Korea, and other states of a similar ilk. Nor can it be argued that they are guilty of using Federal property to propagate their opinion, since they contributed towards its cost, as state and/or federal taxpayers. Again, you are arguing vis-à-vis moral hazard.

The people of new Orleans didnt build that city. The government did. Also did u notice the area that was flooded was predominantly black?
PreCurSeD 2 years ago
Well that simply reinforces the argument that the government should not be building cities, into which a social underclass, of whatever colour, is channeled, and is obliged to suffer the consequences. The US is 2.5 times the size of western Europe and has 70% of the population. Therefore, there are many other opportunities for people to live in locales, which do not suffer from extreme flooding. The delights of Bourbon street, etc., are portable.
charlessmyth 2 years ago
The city was founded 289 years ago on high ground along the Mississippi River and was originally 125 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.
The Port of New Orleans is the largest in the US and the fourth largest in the world. 62% of the consumer-spending public in the U.S. receive their goods through the Port.
LeveesOrg 2 years ago

Then NOTHING happened - no one came to help - no one - Then you have assholes like Shawn Hannity screaming on the radio that everyone there was "drug users and this is what you get!" word for word.

When the government actually cares about results it hires outside contractors for design and construction. If the government actually tried to build fighter planes they would work about as well as the levees in New Orleans. The job of the military is to kill people and break things. The job of the Corps is to help the Army get to where it needs to kill people and break things.

It's certainly no big surprise. We citizens of the New Orleans area are certainly no strangers to this type of bullsh*t. The "use of taxpayer assets" should be a non-issue, but if that's the stink needed to attract a media swarm, let it fester!
Many of us use our work computers to read and respond to blogs during breaks. (I'm doing it right now, hee hee.)
Here is what you should take away from this: the same people responsible for your infrastructure are resent the people they're supposed to protect.
And, incidentally, they're not smart enough to realize that fixed IP addresses have traceable owners.
emiledebeque 2 years ago 2
Imagine a police officer who flubs a case and then goes online anonymously saying the victims were "stupid", and deserved what they got.
Now imagine the officer was dim enough to use police equipment -- equipment almost always routed via a fixed IP address leased to his employer -- and that the office figured this would preserve his anonymity.
How long would such an officer keep his badge?
emiledebeque 2 years ago 2
Yea - my family moved to New Orleans in the early 70s - well after the levees were built. Yes we continued to watch our city sink (which was a side effect of the levees in the first place) and watch the corps continue to use federal money to protect us. Now they say we were foolish to live there in the first place... Well - why did you continue to spend fed. money protecting us if it was stupid in the first place?? And why did you continue to tell us we were safe from a cat 2 if we werent?

LeveesOrg 2 years ago
Exactly. Who do they think they're fooling?
Fogyreef 2 years ago 3
@knowhelpnow: My house, like much of the real estate in new orleans, is actually ABOVE sea level. Should I be allowed to live there, and to rebuild? And what "tab" do you think is being picked up? Nobody's paying for rebuilding New Orleans but the residents ourselves. People need to realize that New Orleans is not the only American city protected by levees, and the levee failure is entirely the fault of the USACE.
souvignier 2 years ago
This is no surprise to me. If they don't understand why we were below sea level in the first place, ask them why they built the levee in the first place.

I don't think they should rebuild New Orleans or the let people build and rebuild on lands like in CA where they keep having forest fires and mud slides, this picking up the tab is not really good for our country, to live under the water table is not a good idea at least to me.
knowhelpnow 2 years ago
this is posted here to counter concern trolls like yourself. and you're wrong. panopticon7 2 years ago

I believe Corps' management unofficially condones these clandestine media campaigns by their employees in New Orleans. The Army officers are fighting their best war against everyone outside the Corps and the local Corps' employees feel the need to deny what they did and shift blame to anyone and anything other than their own organization.
