I have had sheepdogs for 30 years and welcome the Changes that seem to be taking place. Tail docking is unnecessary, an archaic practice that saved tax $. No one is trying to turn the OES breed into bearded collies if we simply prefer to allow our dogs to look like they did the day they came into the world
Just stumbled upon this clip and after losing my gorgeous OES after 15yrs it keeps me smiling when I feel a bit down. Thankyou for posting it they are the best dogs ever!
This is my FAVORITE you tube video. I watch it again and again. I like how you say, don't just lay there and so she shifts position. How did you not throw yourself onto her cute face and rub her tummy? OMG. You are so lucky.
lmao i cant believe someone would say its not a true dog if someone hasnt had the tail docked, they are all born with their tails. if it were the in thing to have your toes docked would you all be jumping at the chance? pretty sure that it is painful. i searched my dog out til i found one where the breeder did not dock.
Not a true sheepdog with a tail? True people don't cut tails off of dogs, they are there for a reason. Stop trying to please your own eye and let the damn dog have his/her tail.
@tfs2006 Your superior intelligence surly comes through in your childish name calling. I humbly apologize for my careless mistake and will be sure to do my research before commenting on any further videos. Have a wonderful Sunday and do take care. Cheers!
@Jane1620 Hygiene partly, but mostly it is purely cosmetic. There is no real benefit to docking the tail and to put them through the process of losing something nature gave to them ... for a reason ... is barbaric.
@dannyazure Cutting the tail is highly recommended by vets mainly because it prevents some injuries. They call that Prophylaxis docking. The same reason why they remove kid's tonsil. Please get your info right before saying shit
@Jeanfrancoisdube Centuries ago OES dogs had their tails docked because they were working dogs and subject to tax by the king. Dogs with tails were "luxuries" for hunting and were taxed as such. There was also concern about the dog's tail being stepped on or caught while working. There is NO/ZERO rationale for a domesticated OES pet getting docked. Done at day 3-5 WITHOUT anesthesia, it subjects the dog to totally unnecessary trauma. Tonsils should be removed only by medical necessity.
@CCConservatory I hope to God that this stupid notion never infects the national old english show clubs and fanciers! People like you would say all male circumcision has to stop as well.
@seekermike007 Mike... I am taking the morning off to consider the profound thinking you invoked in your comment. I'm looking at an adorable video of an OES ... with a tail. I proffered my comment about preferring them with a tail (with rationale) and you come back with... thoughtful comments about my "stupid notion" and male circumcision. When will Geo. Bush and global warming enter this discussion? I can't wait for your next utterance. Give it a lot of thought. PLease.
@CCConservatory You are obviously not seriously involved in the breed club structure; Oesca, etc. and those of us who love the breed, appreciate the history of the breed and its unique character thank heaven that YOUR leanings will Never go over on this club or the Westminster shows. I don't know of your dog ownership history i suspect that it has been mongrelized. Seriously, i would be astounded if you had been in sheepies for long. Sounds like you're trying to turn the oes to a beardie.
@seekermike007 Don't you have anything better to do than post something so catastrophically pretentious as if docking vs in tact dicussions were on a par with a decision to be made at the Pentagon? Truly, 'thank heaven'? 'Dog ownership history...mongrelized?' Insecure and melodramatic...everyone is entitled to their own opinions and using words like 'stupid' make you look like a novice and angry debater. Relax and enjoy your docked sheepie and let others enjoy their tails.
I'm circumcised and I'm very happy with the procedure. So are my girlfriends. Was I a victim of a cruel ritual as a child? Am I suffering from having this surgery? It's asinine to say that it is cruel to dock the tail of a canine. The bottom line: an Old Engish Sheepdog with a tail is an ABOMINATION!!
@dannyazure hmm well it would be better if all dogs would have theyre tail cut it doesnt even hurt them cause the muscles arent grown yet and it prevent from tail injury wich can be really shitty to deal with if i remember well
try opening the fridge ... that noise generally gets the bob tails moving to a slow sprint lol. i have one myself and love this video - its so typical of the their bahaviour...and ill bet she had the tv remote under her aswell
OMG, it has a tail !!! (My gorgeous OES is now 7 so she doesn't have a tail) - Ive never seen one! so cute!!! Ellie does this also, FORGET ABOUT MOVING !! hehe so cute!
@Theshamham No YOU look retarded with a tail on, wtf are you--yeah, I couldn't think of anything else to say. I'm just kidding. No, I like it better with the tail. It looks more natural. You're just too used to seeing it with a cropped tail. It looks so weird seeing that stubby short thing move when it's happy. Long tails look better.
dannylicious4- Your dog wouldnt have been born without a tail. They get docked or "cut off" when their new born. I dont know about everywhere else in the world, but here in Australia, its now illigal to dock any dogs tail. Old English Sheepdogs, Rottwheelers, etc.
sorry.... but...why does she have a tail....?? i have one oes named Emily... and she was born without it.... anyway... your dog is beautiful, so is mine... and every oes in the world...!! the best race....!!
