@Rudunnx Probably, but if he had sung in the church choirs that existed prior to 1800, he might not have kept them long. Look up "castrati" and you will see what I mean.
This boy with the high voice is Michael Ande, known from many other german productions, like Treasure Island and in the german criminal show "Der Alte".
@12rosebud12 They have a pretty bad accent, yes..but they are supposed to..it makes perfect sense for the scene..They are portraying immigrants who've been living in the US for about a year and are learning the language as they go along..it doesn't have to be perfect..in the movie the audience appreciates the effort..
This is awesome history. The movie 'The Sound of Music' starring Julie Andrews is based on this family, the Trapp Family Singers. Interesting arrangement!!
@12rosebud12 The German version is much better than the one with Julia Roberts.
The American one turns the story into kitsch. Ruth Leuwerik is the best German actress of the 50s and plays her role much more German (and the Trapp-Family is still from Germany) than J.Roberts!
@12rosebud12 In a way, you can thank this German movie, for getting to enjoy Julie Andrews as Maria. This movie's success at the time, was the impulse to create TSoM in the first place. The oriignal Trapp Family singers sound nothing like TSoM, since they weren't Broadway singers. The repertoire in the German film is more authentic, at least to a certain degree (Bach, Palestrina..) Authenticity aside, I do enjoy TSoM as a musical..Julie Andrews is terrific.
Folks, this is NOT the real von Trapp family! The people you see here are actors. It is from a German movie made about the Trapp family, in 1958. The Sound of Music came about because of the success of the German production.
@12coomerhb No, the actress playing Maria, Ruth Leuwerik, is not able to play the Guitar (I asked her the same question as you did, when I met her last year). However, she sings all the songs in the film herself!
Oh, my god I can' believe it... since 2 weeks I am in Chicago (originally Berlin) and I really got the impression that I have an accent like this... HELP!
You know what you should do? If you have any old videos of you when you were a child singing, record a new video with you as a bass singing along with yourself. Wouldn't that be a hoot?
