  • Mark,I am very grateful to you for helping me understand photography better. I have a request - could you please contribute an episode to bokeh photography and the means to achieve that effect. I would like to know more on the subject and there is no one better to teach it than you. Thank you for all your sincere efforts.Keep up the great work :)

  • nice to see a model who's interested in whats going on...

  • I was just asking because i would like to know. I like mark's work :)

  • Anyone notice the same music as the Digital rev TV clips....hmmm. Hahaha.

  • @leixialong32 ahh you stole what i was going to say lol i noticed it too haha

  • @leixialong32 It's probably royalty free music, I've heard it in many many videos

  • @leixialong32 Wow, you're so observant, Captain Obvious.

  • @RowJoe47 Why the sarcastic remark? Only on the internet are people so rude and brave to be rude to people they dont even know, RowJoe47 you sir are an ass, now go sit in the corner and learn some manners.

  • Wow. A lot of experts here.

  • Finally a smiling model. Anyways great tips as usual

  • Why not Spot meter for the talent's face and blow out the background in white?

  • @polloloco26 Simply because you would end up with a pretty bad picture. Blown oup background, no decent DOF to speak of, almost flat.

  • Great lesson. I'm just learning how to use my Speedlight, so this video comes at the right time for me now that I can understand exactly what he's demonstrating. And the model is nice to look at too! Maybe a good thing that could have been added to this would have been to demonstrate getting the flash off the camera and holding it off to the side a little bit to show the difference in the light and shadows on her face.

  • Hey mark why not mention that you can do the same thing without high speed sync but using an nd filter instead? not all your viewers i will asume can afford hss flash but nd's are relatively cheap. love your videos keep up the good work, and i know there is no right way to take a shot nor can u cater to every level at the same time. thanks for keeping us entertained and able to learn stuff each week

  • nice video... but did anyone notice how at the end of the video where obviously he wanted to make his biggest point.. he changed from a 18-55mm lens to a L lens....

  • @WylunCustoms the lens being used will not affect the output of the flash. either lens will produce the same photo. so it doesnt really matter what lens he is using.

  • @littlec916 interesting then, that explains why mark was using a $100 lens for the crappy before shots and then at the end to make his point he switched to a $1500 lens... because they would produce the same output right =P

  • @WylunCustoms whether you believe it or not...the lens has NOTHING to do with flash. The only argument you can make is the aperture being used. A $100 lens will expose the same exact photo as a $1500 lens. The major differences between them will be contrast and sharpness. The point Mark is trying to make has to to with "exposure". The only thing I can think of as a reason why he switched lenses is because he wanted better bokeh.

  • @littlec916 I'm pretty sure that's the point of his (@WylunCustoms) argument. By using the correct flash power output a crappy lens may able to replicate a pricey lens, but the aperture which tunes in ambient lighting, sharpness the contrast and other factors are huge impacts which in the end means it DOES matter what lens he is using.

  • @WylunCustoms He never compared the two different lens photos side by side, so whats your point?

  • Nice job with the videos! Very practical and easy to follow.

  • Great lesson, now to take the flash off the camera and put it on a stand with an umbrella to soften the light a bit and make it even more appealing!

  • Thanks guys. Your videos are a great help

  • Mark,

Were you using TTL for all of this tutorial? To balance the sunlight/shade shot, you would need to use manual settings right? Sadly, I do not have my camera with me right now, so their is a fair chance of this being a dumb question.

    Thanks!

  • @danwinters4 AV mode and flash on E-TTL. If cam is on AV or TV, flash will just be for fill.

  • Thanks!

  • Mark, you're just awesome!
