  • such a long time ago... Nice to have a look back at this stuff.

  • What is that music at the beginning

  • @JmaesN - X-Files theme.

  • well i dont know but it asks for special hardware i.e. ARM - based processors x86; now i dont know much about this but sounds as if it will be used for low end computers as a secondary option.....

  • Thanks Chis for your information about this system

  • Great to hook up with you here and thanks for the video comment!

  • Doesn't interest me at all, me and my Ubuntu get along fine, and the fact that everything is stored online terrifies me. I don't really care about how much space is used on my HD, i have a terabyte on my laptop, and i have really slow Internet speeds as i live in an old'ish house, and the lines haven't been upgraded in like forever.

  • It's not going to be for everyone, but some things like GoTo meeting, don't work without Windows. So I still dual boot.

But the fact I can run my whole business from the browser is amazing to me. As far as storing sensitive documents those should not be stored on a machine that is connected to the Internet anyways.

You and I may be able to secure our machines very well but 99.99% of Internet users have little more than a picket fence between their machine and the rest of the world....

  • Heil google! Heil!

  • Great stuff Chris - thanks for the insight...

  • ok so linux ubuntu is just as good from what i can see and since linux is open source im sure that some of the big features on this "new" google os will eventually be on all linux os... im a huge linux fan so much easier than windows its clean and light dosent consume much resources either way good job google for not bending over and taking it from the windows and apple giants :)

  • In Google's latest demo, it will definitely be Linux with Chrome coded in natively. That means it will be part of Linux if you are not a coder.

That means it will run very fast, I mean very, very fast because it is not an added on, downloaded browser. Chrome will be coded into a read only OS at the low level of the C language.

The latest video from Google shows the Chrome OS booting in 3 seconds and ALL applications are web applications, no native apps at all.

Check Google, it's here on YT...

  • This is so exciting... just the little bit that I've been playing around with it this weekend, it will truly simplify the ever growing pace of go, go, go!! Thanks for providing all of this information Chris

  • great video chris!!!

  • great video

  • WOW I knew this was coming but now that you spelled it out I get it!

  • Of course not, there is a Linux program called Lucy that will run exe's on Linux.

I would suggest running dual boot. But what is important is that it does not matter. Watch the video again, it is not about Google's actual OS, it is about the Google applications we will use when using the Google OS.

It is not about the platform anymore, it is about the fact that you can get most of what you need thru the browser from Google. I am NOT about the OS, I am about portability and the browser....

  • I'm really looking forward to the Google OS. It looks so fast. I've never used Linux, but have always heard great things and can see at least 2 netbooks in my future when they are released with the Google OS!

  • I love Google's programs, which is why I can't wait for Chrome OS.

  • Google OS is going to change a lot of things - great vid Chris!

  • thanks for doing that and for your help. It's also a problem every google product has a different look/feel, there's no uniformity throughout the settings pages. For configuring the youtube account, I need to browse every tab in the settings, and I couldn't refind an option I saw yesterday, google has to know that people with reading disabilities don't have a total overview of the page, and the lack of uniformity is making things unnecessaryly difficult.

  • well made video, although this stuff is sounding very abstract to me. But what about google chrome os and screen reader users? If google would provide a free screenreader that could beat out Jaws, Window eyes and the dolphin products, a screenreader that could use google chrome and all the applications you describe in this video, this would be very handy for people with reading disabilities

  • Really great point there Katty. Google is lacking in the screen reader support area and I know how much problems you have using parts of Google.

An integral screen reader would be a huge plus and I will certainly be passing that along where I can on Google blogs.

  • Looks like its starting to become more inevitable just like the matrix. Soon I will have Google embeded in my Oakley shades and wrist watch,Thanks for spelling it out for us, we all need to apply forward thinking like you do Chris.

  • Thanks once again for showing us what we need.

  • WOW, it looks like this is a very popular topic, the views have gone way up since I first found this google os stuff. Sounds like a loser or a world changer.

  • Well done Mr. Lang. Very informative. I noticed that people are searching "download google os".

If all of the resources are available through the browser then why are people searching this keyword phrase? I've used the google docs that is similar to MS Office and no downloading was required. Pretty cool.

  • My project is to Boot and run Google OS from a USB flash memory stick like I do with netbook remix or Ubuntu

    friendly

  • I am going to keep a sharp eye out for all of your updates @iamchrislang... Thanks!

  • I am definitely looking forward to the Google OS system and Google Wave as well!

    Dave

  • Chris,

I accept you into my life as my personal savior - I love you more than you love yourself...

  • WOW that is a lot of love because I really love Chris Lang, and Google loves Chris Lang too (or so we believe)...

  • Good info Chris as always.

    Neil Ashworth

  • Good explanation and overview. Thanks Chris

    Cindy in Utah

  • wow. as if privacy wasn't already a big enough issue. where is my tin... not-stick aluminum foil hat?

  • Take a look at my channel, I have just the tin foil hat video for you :]

  • It just boggles my feeble mind! Life with the Google OS is gonna be exciting!

I'm so glad you're there to lead the way, Chris!

    Barb Salsbury

    Margie D

  • Do you know how long it took me to get that sound? I had to steal it off Malcolm In The Middle. Man I freakin love the WOOSH!

  • Chris,

Thanks for the great video! We all know Google plays for keeps and they aren't going to be a side-show when it comes to social media. Your grid demonstrates how effective they are at adding to their portfolio.

So I think it's pretty obvious the Google Friend Connect is going to be a pretty big deal.

  • Yes, I believe there is still more to come..

Nice to know about Google Friend Connect now..

    Sending Smiles:)

    Margie D

  • Nice!

  • Thanks!

  • Chris, You always seem to have your finger on the pulse of what's happening and the latest tools/applications. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and all the value you contribute to your friends.

    Dave and Dawn Cook

  • Always glad I can help....

  • Google =Skynet

I like that! How far is from reality? Will see in a few years...

Anyway, Microsoft people have bad headaches after the announcement of Google OS.

I'm wondering when Google will stop... and where.

    Valeriu

  • Did you notice MS suddenly started issuing press releases that their new mobile browser is a browser / web os? Talk about weak and damage control to boot....

Oh yeah, the new Palm Web OS? Built on Google applications! Again at the core is the Google Grid / OS.

  • Yeaha! Special Agent Chris Lang Revealing the Google OS - You hit the Jackpot again, my friend!

Reality Check: Google OS - Web OS is NOW!

Chris Lang - Always One Step Ahead, Respect!!!

  • Much Respect ..Chris..

    Sending Smiles:)

    Margie D

  • I didn't even know what Google OS was til you explained it.

  • Everything does make sense with Google Docs (not as good as Office--yet), and all the applications they have. However I rely on Chris for all my technical information. He is my tester.

For those of you who do not know Chris Lang, he is usually right on the money for what he suggests and is worth following.

Thanks for taking the time to post this video Chris.

  • Chris, as you know I have been using the all the Google apps for years, even hosting my own domain through it, and I have been wanting a Google OS for a long time. I was very excited to hear this announcement. I know their announcement said it will be different than their Android project, but I hope Google puts the same originality and ingenuity into Chrome Google OS and they did the Chrome Browser and the Android Mobile OS.

    Google =Skynet...Hah

  • I am actually glad Google ditched the Android Laptop thing, using Linux as the core is so much smarter and many of us already use Linux instead of buying an expensive Windows platform.

From a W2K / Linux user no less, LOL.

  • I am pretty sure Linux is the core for Android as well...

  • thnx chris. well done. very informative video re. google os. google = skynet? haha

  • I figured I would beat the GOOGLE is SKYNET guys to it. They are everywhere, kinda like the Google OS.... LOL

  • Chris-

As always, exposing Google strategy, and helping us all get a leg up, nice work my friend!

    -Travis

  • google os

  • Very cool. Thank you Chris

Based on some recent experiences I feel the biggest opportunity for all major services including Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and and more. Is in the area of support.

There are occasions when you need help that can seemingly be only addressed by talking to someone.

  • I agree Steve, but these are all money losing applications, Facebook hemorrhages money like my ex wife writing hot checks after happy hour.

Microsoft support? I spent 3 hours, smoked an entire pack of Marlboros and drank a 6 pack the last time I called Microsoft support.

If I want to talk to people in India about Microsoft I will log on to Orkut. LOL

In the end I agree but until these social sites make money we are not going to see live support.

  • The Google OS is supposed to be aimed at netbooks first. How long till desktops and full on laptops are included? Or is Google just trying to redefine the marketplace altogether. Why buy a high powered machine if everything runs from 'above'. Good stuff as always Chris, Thanks.

  • Google OS has some exciting possibilities. THe thing which caught my attention was the boot up speed. My windows machine takes 5 minutes to restart and get to where I can use it.

  • I will show you how to boot to Ubuntu and still keep your Windows install next week in my next Google OS video. Real easy and it saved my business.

  • How will programs like Photoshop, Office, Quickbooks, etc run with a Google OS? When purchasing these programs one needs to know what OS they will be installing it on - will they work with Google OS?

  • Obviously some are tied to programs that do not run on Linux.

To make the video above I do have to boot to Windows 2000 to run Camtasia (I mentioned that in the video) and many pros that use Photoshop will need Windows.

Many more are MAC addicts and that is cool.

Video gamers and lots of people that have tons of software they use every day are tied to Windows.

Tied, that reminds me of being held against my will. Kinda like prison. Give it a try, you will see a Google OS is slick. Or not...

  • QuickBooks Enterprise Edition already runs on Linux servers. A desktop version cannot be far behind.

Also QuickBooks and TurboTax online versions are perfectly competent for personal use. Right though the browser....

  • Chris ,

    ArtByLetters

    put this to My adsense

    powerd Blog at Flixya

    hope to Highest

Twitter all goes per tell ,

    Peace

  • It's not that Google are necessarily targeting Microsoft it's simply that they want us to spend more time online.

Why? Because when we're online we are available to be advertised to!

It does Google no good at all if I spend an hour writing something in Word, an email in Outlook or creating an image in Photoshop.

Google's goal is to get me doing all those things online, preferably using their apps so their ads can show up. Clever stuff!

  • AAhhhhaaaa, I see you got it. You are very right, more time online, more AdSense ads, less Microsoft....

  • Google OS..

Wow' so much valuable information. Can't wait to see what the next year will look like.

As always, Thank you Chris you are the best..

    Sending Smiles:)

  • This was originally meant as a Google OS interview with Jack Humphrey. But since he is in London speaking this week I turned it into a video for you.

Of course if you have any questions or comments log in with your GFC Gmail and let me know how I can help you....
