****Shamanism is not a "RELIGION", and is not the main religion of the Hmong community. The religion of the Hmong is ancestral worshipping and animism. However, the shaman is a part-time or full-time spiritual medium who intervene or serve as a means of communication between the natural and supernatural world. The shaman is use as a vehicle of the transhuman entity.
Shamanism is not a religion. Its just something to cure the sick. Not organizations like religions. "Religions" are political weapons to control the dumbos and "Laws" are diplomatic weapons to control the smart ass. That's how I see it. That's why war is never end. Because of religions. And laws always be written when new things happen.
a true shaman is chosen by ancestors...at a young age or age 40-60's..trained by sheeyee (creator of shaman) unconscious for 3 more days depending on training in dream.. learn and know the way to the spirit world.. ride a horse and meet three crossroads..which way will u go? you didn't explain enough..
This is NOT a religion but more of a traditional pactice. It is the meaning of life and life it self. Teaching us how important it is to keep it. It can save life or take life.
You insult the many thousands of Hmong who have watched this video. Sorry to hear you are so easily bored. I found it fascinating. Maybe you should go back to watching American Idol as usual.
No, the facts are astounding. The girl is what put me to sleep. I am no one to insult a culture, way of life, belief system, and so on and so forth. Observe before you leap.
shaman is a culture..and trdition...not religion...there r indian shamans...african shamans...russian shamans....hispanic shamans..all simalar..but not religions..
I have another project where my Hmong student is going to interview her shaman uncle. I will love to see it, but I suspect I will keep my former opinion above.
Hum... I find this host girl rather out of breath. Great facts about Hmong Shamanism; mostly true... Although I must say, coming from a family who's grandfather is a Shaman, I believe "Shamanism" to be our tradition, but not a religion. Believing there is a god is something else... I do believe in my god...
wonderful. shamanism plays a major role in our culture. when becoming a shaman, you see vision. shamanism determines what hmong groups you are, what clans you are and etc...
So what would our religion be if shamanism is our culture? Would it be animistic ?

It is a very good document ,but you should make a correction. The horn that the shaman use is not a goat's horn it's a water buffalo's horn.

I do agree, shamanism is more of a tradition rather than a religion, because many shamanism also believe in a higher being = Gods.

Well,
religion is something built-in to all humans. Many want to think their religion is truth and the others are "religions." I don't agree.

Read more, or speak to those who is shaman. Listen and ask question, than live to understand it.
My grandfather was a shaman, but he's gone to the next world, but sometime I see him in my dreams.
