So it's better to convert files to quicktime before you even start editing in FCP? I mean doesn't the MOV contain the most information? Since this video was made before FCP X came out with the possibility to directly import the clips from the camera to FCP is that something that takes advantage of the color information in the clips?

Cineform is a great choice to edit with on PC. largarith codec is also just as good and it's free. They're both lossless codecs.

I export maximum settings from AE, h264 codec .mov format. Then I put the file through Handbreak and get, for example a 125mb 40second clip down to 6mb for yt upload (still high quality)

it depends on how fast your PC is. On my PC i cant edit with those h264 Canon files and I can do it natively in Adobe Premiere. But DSLR h264 can really be really slow because it requires a bit of processing power. If I'm doing something with really heavy effects I'll convert it to Cineform or Largarith to make things run a little faster.

hey i installed mpeg but then i had to install the alternate quicktime file and then after I did that my after efects scaling and making quicktime movies different sizes. It then made me move a big box to scale it instead of just the four points on it. Can someone help me if u can email my youtube and if you don't understand ask me for a screen record of it thanks!

@hayman21 you have to be in M or P mode when installing it and then import it, then you can go to the menu and to picture styles and select it and then you can go to the video mode but im not sure if you first have to select it in the menu but thats how i installed it

@xxbluejay21 it probably looks for filmic straight off the camera, but cinestyle will give you more freedom to create the exact film look you want. if you don't plan on color correcting/grading as much then use cinema style.

I installed CineStyle on my 7D then went into picture style, next to 'user def 1' is Cinestyle so I assumed I installed it properly. Under CineStyle sharpness & contract slider bar is on the far left & saturation & color tone slider bar is neutral. The Technicolor user guide .pdf says 'we recommend the following camera settings (which are completly different to the Cinstyle user def 1 settings I mentioned above). How to I shoot under the Cinestyle preset if it want me to use different settings?

Can anyone help me out. I am trying to get the cinestyle on my canon 60d. When i click the link to download the file it sends it to my downloads file in zip form. I open that up and then it turns it into the .pf2 file but when I try to click on that it goes to my terminal and says that it cannon execute the binary file. CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT?

@brownsnuts just add it to the render Que. as long as your aspect ratio are all the same as the rest of you clips it should slide right into you editing system (premiere, imovie, etc) like a dream. or you can just use the AE clip you exported

Why MPEG Streamclip? Why not just use the Log and Transfer feature in FCP? My guess is that you don't want to be locked down by the scratch disk settings. Or, does it have to do with quality or file/compression options?

Hey Rye, great ep (the DSLR profile stuff is relatively new to me), my question to you about converting footage is:

Since we do a lot of our shooting on the Panasonic HVX200 (which makes DVCpro HD 720p60 footage) I tend to convert my DSLR footage to the same if we're using footage from both camera in one project.

BUT, if I'm JUST using the DSLR footage, Apple ProRes is the better way to go? (DVCpro HD tends to be a fairly large file size).

No shit you can't "push" canon's neutral setting as far in regards to contrast. The camera has already created contrast, so if you apply the same contrast to both the neutral setting and the technicolor setting then the neutral setting will appear worse, even though it's just already had contrast applied to it in camera.

press set and go into one of the User Def. sets.

Click info on the one you want.

Itll open up another menu, hit set on picture style and move the wheel until you find cinestyle.

Once that is set then the User Def you picked will be the cinestyle.
