Metal Slug 3 - Into the Cosmos...maybe. Might be too much for 8-bit. Could also try Judgment from Metal Slug 2.

Other Ideas:

-Gohdan, Kalle Demos, Molgera, or Jalhalla from Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

-Chrono Trigger is a wellspring of excellent music but if you don't mix it just right the results could be bad.

-Make me a mix of Lament of Innocence. The actual song, not the game it comes from.
