Well if there IS a God, you SOBs deserve the hell you preach. Because by your hand and under your watch and under the power of your holy spirit has the planet CONTINUOUSLY been under war and invasion and holy wars.
Shit, I would like to see what a world without YOUR VERSION of divinity feels like in contrast to this self-righteous self-professing fear and doom and gloom notion you pathetic people have presented.
Monotheism threw the female off the throne and its caused imbalance ever since.
If there is in fact a God who is a supreme being and created everything. Then he must above everything and everything that exists. Therefore, it's impossible for people with an intetellect as small as ours (compared to him) to understand how or what or when all this happened, yet most people who believe in God claim that they know how God expects them to behave, talk, act etc etc
i didn't gather the same view as most of the comments below, i heard how absurd our current actions are if there is no god. What im gathering from this is, in the bigger picture outside of the walls of your house and your feelings and your friends there is no reason for us to follow rules or any other form of moral code.
depends on your spelling of 'no', 'know' is my preferred spelling... I believe our individual purpose of life is to 'know' what our purpose is but at the very least, we know we exist and must do something, even if all we do is exist and survive...
There are also many who would disagree with my point that the prime diference between agnostic atheists and general atheists is that agnostics hold a belief that the existance of a god or gods is possible whereas a 'general atheist' would hold that some things are indeed impossible and that as there is no evidence to show that it is possible. Making any assertion on the possiblity of a god or gods existing is equally as faith based as believing that they necesairly do exist.
... This is why I always take issue with "atheists" who assert that there are most certainly no gods; In order to make that assertion and actually be an atheist they themselves would have to be all-knowing. Which would mean they would essentially be a god and instantly disprove their assertion.
... As both "god exists" and "god doesn't exist" are both faith based assertions they are both beliefs in the existance of at least one god. Respectively one asserts the the existance of a god is certain while the other asserts that it's existance is impossible. Now as both are beliefs in the existance of a god both fall under the literal meaning of "Theism" and therefor neither can truly be called "Atheism" as atheism is explicitly the absence of theism.
... the english prefixes 'a-' and 'an-' which were inherited from the greek language serve only to denote a loss, absence or counter thesis to the meaning of the root. For example 'Amoral' literally means 'without morals' and 'Apathy' which is the 'absence of sympathetic emotion'. Now seing as how the definition of "Theism" is "Belief in the existance of God or gods", Atheism would literaly mean the absence of belief in the existance of God or Gods...
Theism: Noun. 1. Belief in God(s) as the creator and ruler of the universe without rejection of revelation. 2. Belief in the existance of a God or gods (as opposed to Atheism).
Atheism: Noun. 1. Disbelief in the existance of a supreme being or beings. 2. A doctrine or belief that there is no god (strong atheism)
Both are Websters definions though I do take issue with the second usage of "Atheism" and I will explain why.
Evidence doesn't point towards atheism as atheism isn't an assertion, it just points away from the gods defined within religious groups... Though it does work in the general direction of the "God's existance" scale; The more gods we prove do not exist the less likely it is that there is a god.
I agree with most of the statements made in the video but fail to see how the title is correct. All of these things remain true whether you're an atheist or a theist, the only difference is is that the atheist can recognise these thruths whereas the theist will blindly follow statments to the contrary with no evidence to suggest they're correct. Being unhappy with the reality and hoping for something better does not make it true. Knowing I'll die forever is what makes me appreciate life now.
First you need to provide evidence your deity exists, then make any acceptable claim about it. Even then, when you have actually proven any divine meaning exists, it still wouldn't be objective, as it would be subject to divine whim. Furthermore, that still doesn't enable you to judge my subjective personal meaning as worthless, as you're not the one who can make that call, only I can.
WLC tries to pull a bait&switch by sneaking in a premise that any attempt at meaning is the purview of theistic thinking and therefore anyone that applies any meaning 2 their lives is borrowing from a theistic worldview or fooling themselves. You keep trying to make me accept that premise which is just asinine and an unproven assumption.[cont.]
You are so desperately clinging to the idea of divine meaning that you have, like WLC, to diminish actual human meaning. as to be fake, an imitation of the truth. You really can't do that just by saying it is. My "meaning" is based on reality and is more fulfilling than any god belief ever was. You describing it as 'pretend' is hilarious, when the subjects of my meaning undeniably exist!
I never claimed there was an objective moral truth, don't blame me if you can't read.
As I explained, I derive meaning from life. Part of it is gaining knowledge&a good way to do so is discussing with people who disagree with me and finding out what makes them tick. Its meaningful for me which of course makes your claims especially ironic & provides me with amusement, and therefore makes this an even more meaningful conversation. I also find educating people meaningful. Triple score! ;)
There is no such thing as objective moral truth. That is as much of a fiction as god. Morality derives from human interaction, and as such is subjective. But subjective to society, not to individual whim. You might prefer an unyielding unchanging divine moral authority, but a look at history and society shows how wrong that outlook is.
your looking for answers , why ask other people when you can fall to your knee's
and plead with God to speak to your heart and mind , and listen for the very faint understanding , you may have to pray for a while to get an answer , at least when he asnwers you, you know you will get the truth
@anarchyclayman If there is no god, then you might as well kill yourself because your no different than a piece of shit, and that is the fucking truth.
1. "All we are left with is despair." I stand corrected. I'll rephrase.
If life is so empty with 'despair' without believing in god then why aren't Atheists dwelling is despair as he suggests everyone should be?
Nothing changes. It' still "If I can't have my god, my way, then I want life to be unhappy...so there."
2) Though it is impossible to prove there is no god, there is zero proof that there is one..which is very damning evidence indeed for a being said to be so involved in our lives.
2. Can't grasp the reality of what they say they believe
& most importantly,
3. They LIE to themselves, pretending that we can make up meaning for everything..They claim "the universe is what I make it". LOL OK..Well if you want to live in pretend land. & think that is what life is.
OK..Make up subjective meaning, & lie to yourself. That's up to you . Just stop pretending you are smart
I am of course humbled everyday by all that I don't know, but enough to suspend reason and logic and believe everything.
I am not denying the possibility of a higher intelligence, that created us as some kind of meta experiment. Like we play "god" with bacteria and viruses on petri dishes. But do we (bacteria) really owe any level of deference to this "god".
Even the most liberal interpretations of a "great power" cant account for the terrible design of the world we live in, assuming it was shaped in some way by this greater power.
If this "god" only played a minimal role in the creation of the reality we experience, and left the rest to its own, that is rather sadistic, and evil, and life is still pointless.
If "god" is responsible for all details of our reality, then "god" is pretty perverted and incompetent.
Why don't you make a semi-decent case for the actual existence of a god (any god!) before using heavy words like 'fact' wrt to god. As far as I've seen no theist has earned the privilege to do so.
... Whatever the Universe is...it is. I think we can all agree on that. If there is a god the thoughts of atheists to the contrary will not change the god's existence.
Likewise if there is no god then ranting how unfortunate life might be if that were true does not change anything. Then you are merely convincing yourself for the comfort of the idea and the fact if god is real or not becomes secondary.
Living life like a scared ostrich is not for me, thank you.
Morality is a strategy for dealing with other intelligent people. Because so many of us have common goals of stability, prosperity, and fairness, etc., we can talk about good and evil among each other without defining the goals at the begining of every conversation. There is nothing about morality that could exist before or outside of a collection of mortal, intelligent beings.
When people ask about the purpose of, or meaning of life, the question they are actually asking is, 'What gives life value?'
Value is never intrinsic, it can only be defined by an intelligent, living observer. The desire to extend your life, or add value to the life you have, is understandable. The search for an immortal being that can value your life for an infinite time, however, is pointless. There is no concievable way anything could be justified in claiming immortality.
I wonder if just one atheist can get on here and talk about this with respect.
lets see how long it takes to get a 3rd grade insult.. becasue that is how far the atheist mind has regressed.
there was a time when atheism had great
philosophers like Neechi.
now..its a bunch of half wits who MUST BE TAUGHT that they are superior to those who are theists. because once you accept such a notion..you stop thinking critically, stop questining, & become AFRAID to ponder these questions honestly
What in the world makes you think we are afraid to ponder these questions honestly? And how do you define 'honest pondering'? That which agrees with your conclusion?
What makes you think this is the first time we encountered these arguments?

This very statement proves your ignorance of not only the Bible but the nature of God.

This video makes a case for the projection for a God figurehead and God notion. That is all. It makes a political push.
This is rubbish. A theist should actually be offended by this presentation.
It has nothing to do with beauty and love. Its basically sanctions theism as filling a void...as but a ends to an emotion need.
That's pathetic.

Thats the problem. Its those who claim God who have been the ones always going to battle killing others.
There is no mystery since they believe God has a chosen clique and the rest deserve death and destruction like EVERYONE ELSE besides Noah's family.
And this is the same God that would even entertain the possibility of a man slaying his son on an altar as a test.
MY GOD would have me understand that there is NOTHING more valuable than my offspring. The test would have me killing myself.

i can give you millions of examples that defy this mantra, Myself included.
If everything is a product of one's environment...why are there Christians in Muslim countries??
Ooops... I destroyed that theory with one question now didn't I.
don't forget the religious citizens of the former Soviet Union......
Surrounded with a culture of Atheism....but they defied your mantra.
