  • I like that,- "contributing to the hobby in a positive manor"

  • I like your spirit! We need more like us!

  • Well said, Well said. I agree 100%.. and you know what? Craig got me started as well, i started with coopers.. and simply coudln't get the results i wanted from extract, so over time i finaly moved to AG... but at the end of the day, i respect anyone for even daring to try and make their own beer!

  • if you think your taxes are bad, check out the prices of beer in Toronto, Ontario. A 24 of Heineken costs $45.95 CAD.

  • @onewireddrummer That is outrageous. That's why we all need to keep our thumbs on our governments to try to keep the taxing all of us into poverty to a minimum!

  • Just about ready to make my first batch of brew. Starting out with the bag, malt extract ect. Have a keg setup and all the other goodies in place. Got a used fridge for $30.00 and plan to get some taps on the door. After I get the hang of it I plan to go with the all grain method. At the rate me and my sweety drink beer, I'll recover the cost in less than a year. Not being taxed to support things I tend to resist on a daily basis is a major inspiration. And I like good beer. Thanx for the post.

  • good video not like that takesomeadvice wanker...

  • I agree with dorf basically. There are so many dif extracts out there (liquid or dry),extra light, light, amber, etc. Then so many dif yeast,& hops for dif flavor profiles, you can spend years exploring the possibilities. I call it "recombinant extract";not using kits, but, rather a piece from here,a piece from there, working to my own recipe. I did a lot of research before my 1st brew. Still do. The results are gunna be great,I guarantee. That's the fun of home brewing!!

  • I got 5 awards on my wall that proves that you can brew superior extract beer. I brew exclusively extract beer and have been for 12 years. all you need is to get the freshest extract possible, viable yeast, fresh hops(i grow my own, now thats fresh) and pure water, I have the best water in the country right out of tap.

  • like the vid. I also like the "I want to believe" poster in the background. takes me back to watching the x-files. awesome!

  • Love the vid... found you from craigtube. sub'd!

  • I personally am sick of listening to it! I will say this, we need to realize when we can save and take advantage of it. During Prohibition Pabst put out a CAN for cooking, (for making beer) and that is how home brewing in America took off. It seems some want to dis people learning. Yes, Beer Wars rocks. I have done both and will say that a Brewferm beer rocks anything I have done on my own. Of course they are Belgian ales and that is my favorite! But i have never had a bad batch! EVER!

  • Great video about this debate. I didn't even know there was this debate until this morning. Wow everyone just needs to calm down and "Enjoy The Fruits Of There Labor and Brew Beer".

  • @sjporr Thanks! Lately the debate is mostly dead. There were a few people who were quite counter-productive to the hobby in my opinion with their comments and videos disparaging others. Lately it has been quiet though, luckily! Thanks for watching!

  • I think my problem is when I make home brew seems everyone knows when I am making it and I don't get to hardly get to enjoy any of it.I have not made an all grain but even with the partial mash methods had a really nice fresh taste to the brews.I do everything on the cheap and to me whether its canned or what ever its better than what i've bought out of a store.threw one together last night ,hope it turns out to be like a banana nut bread brew.

  • well said...thanks for helping out people wanting to learn...ive been brewing for years and years and done everything from can/bag, extract, mini mash, and all grain for the past few years...I've been very happy with all of them..but couldn't have gotten to all grain without learning the basics first....great video

  • @immolateus Thank you very much for the kind words. Brewing is great. It is a declaration of independence if you will, and I will never go back to buying all my beer at the store! Thanks for watching!

  • yea beer wars was great. iv only made on home brew it was coopers it was good and cheap all my neighbors couldn't believe i made 5 gallons for 28 dollars ime doing it because its cheap. i thinks one day soon ill do a parshall grain brew and then an all grain brew keep up the good vids man and some day maby u will see some of my own

  • I learned how to brew from a guy who spent most of the 90's in prison. His recipe involves ketchup packets, orange peels and old bread. He's been out of the joint for a long time and he's still brewing the shit! He's hooked on it! At least he doesn't make it in the back of a toilet anymore. I'm up to partial mashes at this point and I'll do all grain eventually but given how I learned I can't imagine looking down on extract brewers!

    Great vid man

  • @orjysean Absolutely man...thats what it is all about! As long as people are doing it, that is all that matters!! Good luck!

  • Loved Brew Wars. I agree with the can vs. all grain is not the point. The point is that you are not paying an arm and a leg for beer(IMO). I would disagree with the taxes issues a little, but that not really discussion I care get into.

Great videos and keep up the good work.

  • @verticalgambit Thanks for watching!!

  • Right on. Washington State just raised the tax on beer 28 cents . I just decided to brew my own. No more liquor tax to the state. I can make homebrew for 1/3 the price of retail. :-D

  • @faroutadventures That is what home brewing is all about for me. I do not support my government, so I say starve the beast, in any way you can! I am tired of tax hikes to pay for crap I don't support...home brewing is ground zero!

  • E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!!! You nailed it bro, 100%. My favorite way to describe the beer bashing on youtube is like both sides are acting like the bad tribe in "Lord of the Flies" - LOL! Loved "Beer Wars" - what an eye opener. Will be kegging my first all grain in a few days, tasting it in about 10 days (brewed it June 4). What a great hobby with awe$ome rewards all the way around. Thanks!

  • @steeljan" We did everything just the way grownups would have. Why didn't it work? Things would be much better here if it wasn't for him."

I love that movie! Great book too!!

I agree with your analogy. The way I see it, we are all on the same team here. Let's all pool our resources and experiences to develop the absolute finest quality product that we can! Thanks for watching!!!

  • I love the "sticking it to the man" angle. Awesome. Consider me subscribed. You are a good man.

Hey, I noticed a lot of pixellating in this vid. Were you experiencing issues with your camcorder?

  • @jturie No, it's an older camcorder, I stream it through my TV tuner card and render it that way. Not the best method, plus I haven't put a lot of effort into my video production, but I plan on getting a new camcorder soon.

  • sam is still way smaller than the big 3. part of my brewing is about sticking it to them also. i havent bought a beer (at home) in like 6 monthes and then i think i was out of town. but i will have to admit i have got WAY better then my extracts. beer wars is excellent....the blue moon clip sent me on a loop

  • @dmeckle I have to be honest, the quality difference from extract brews to all grain, was staggering to me. I am so happy with my results! I never liked Blue Moon, but I have never had a white/wheat/wit whatever beer that I liked. Thanks for watching!

  • @tomroeder i thought bluemoon was ok could have been alot more hoppy. i just would have never guessed that it was coors......as far as wheat beers....ummm i brew alot w/ wheat. but i find your dark wheats can be hit hard w/ the hops.

btw.....sam adams isnt even 1% of the market they are way closer to one of us then they are to one of them....you know

look into malting your own brew....super cheap

  • @tomroeder On May 1 I went to the new LHBS in my area. He had 10 guys cranking out AG brews and discussing their equipment and methods. They brought many kegs for free samples. This was my first taste of AG beer, and it was so much better than my (good) extract brews. I tasted an IPA that was better than the Victory Hop Devil keg the LHBS guy supplied (the shop is 2 blocks from Victory), and a 3-yr old Belgian Dubble that was pure silk. Building the MLT now, probably going AG in 2 brews.

  • @jturie All Grain is soooooo much fun....A lot more work, at at first it can be very overwhelming...that is shy I Recommend people start with extract. WIth extract you can learn the basics of sanitation methods, boil schedules, fermentations, etc. The main difference between All Grain and extract is the volume of the boil, (full volume boil) and the mash. Other than that...pretty much the same! Good luck! Make a video of your brews, I Would like to see them!

  • Well, I'm all for people brewing at home. I'll leave it at that.

I have just received a message from someone who's going to send me a slant of CL-110, British Microbrewery. I used this yeast for years as my house strain. I plan on doing a video soon on how to use a loop and grow starters from yeast cells that have been stored on a slant. Total Engagement!!!

Tom, hope you heard what has become an international hit, "Celebrate All Grain."

  • @nige4958 That sounds great, I will be sure to watch that video. That is what it is all about! After all, we are all on the same team!!

  • Awesome video!

  • I have very high respect for you. You said it better than anyone ever has. I've tried to explain this, but people don't listen. Hopefully people will listen to you. Cheers!

  • @CraigTube Thank you very much Craig. I just hate to see so much talent an effort squandered over trivial, childish behavior. Some claim that you are harmful to the hobby. Quite the contrary, you bring more diversity to the table with your methods, more options for more people, and I say that is GREAT!

  • I'm like you bro, if nothing else I'm looking at moving up as a challenge.. The extracts with specialty grains I've been doing are very good, but I want to do even better and learn EVERY area of brewing from cans to AG. Until I can get the tun and everything ready though, I think I'll get a few partial mash's under my belt just to see the difference in what I've done and the difference when I move to AG. Beer Wars WAS a very informative documentary! Loved it!

  • @jakecpunut Amen bro...learn everything that you can! Knowledge is power! Take your time getting your all grain equipment together, do it right the first time. Partial extract kits aren't bad...the ones from Austin Home Brew Supply are very decent. Drink those until you get all your equipment together....all grain is VERY addicting!!!

  • Beer wars was so full of it especially with Dogfish head and the guy trying to pretend he was all lowely and poor.

The smaller brewers have nothing to complain about. Their products are available and people are willing to pay for them. And then a LOT of people don't like craft brew. People like bud and coors.
