Its just pure emotion in human form, it transcends emotion that few can express, its like pain ( albiet in a beautiful form ) set to music....... never has hurting sounded so good !
Luciano Pavarotti, Enrico Caruso can be heard singing "Vesta la giubba" right here on Youtube. They're not bad, but they are no Lanza. What a shame that he died at 39 years 99 days old. (Half Pavarotti's age in 2011.) Some thought his death was suspicious, but his son died at 37, also of a heart attack.
opps...forgot...in his movie singing ave maria...they taped that without any mikes..back then...it casued reverb...its his natual voice...its on youtube...just wonderful to the max
This rendition was amazing but This isnt his best studio recording of this aria, If you want to see his best studio rendition of this song try the album, "The Legendary Tenor". Its probably the best vesti la giubba ever sung.
Great voice, but doesn't have the ear of del Monaco. Wish we had the staging to go along with the soundtrack. (I realize that this is a studio recording, though.)
@GreekCallas Phew... 5 years ago - I'm almost sorry to 'correct' you after all these years.
Okay, I loved Elvis but he ain't in Mario's class; he ain't in Doris Day's class...
Elvis was not a good singer. Full-stop. Doris Day did some nice work, really nice.
Now, Mario Lanza; what a truly wonderful voice - that is a REAL singing voice, blessed and gifted and given to us - then taken away... Oh, what wondrous art.
I really enjoy Mario! I do think his emotional involvement is unrivaled.

Jussi Bjorling did, in my estimation, the very best version of this. Better even than Pavarotti.

Lanza is a heavyweight but pavarotti always did it better live or in studio and with so little effort

Thanks, I always thought that was the same rendition on that album. Perhaps I'll buy the album now.

Pity that his Hollywood career prevented him from becoming a truly great artist. He certainly had a talent and a voice.

I agree. It's happened with too many artists such as Elvis Presley, Mario Lanza, Doris Day and many others.
