  • why do people come to the video just to hate? fuck all your tubos this shit sounds better than an orchestra

  • The R32 performance doesn't scare any EVO or STI, maybe the rallitart or WRX

  • @SANYUR wrx is quicker to 60 than sti

  • my neighbor has one of these... i was looking at it the other day. Its also white. very clean

  • no launch control time??

    just plain sad -_-

  • I hate these cars and some people act like it's actually fast or something.

  • @TheDartblockstang and i suppose u drive a mustang

  • slow piece of overpriced garbage for cunts and faggots

  • @kenmastersmaster and you drive a subaru huh?

  • @kenmastersmaster im guessing your 12?

  • It sounds...automatic..

  • I love my 08 R32. The perfect car for me... totally reassuring on the road, in all weather, all speeds, even foolish ones in the rain. Smooth. Fast. Quiet inside (except when it counts!). The only thing it needs is electric memory seats. Otherwise... yee ha! (It did take a while to get used to the paddles... though. But I did!).

  • r32 can get to 60 in 5.4 seconds if launch control is used

  • VW R32 soooo gooood

check out my vid of a Turbo R32 doing a launch to 100+ in 3.5sec

  • test driving an auto...?

  • shes class

  • its a bad ass car i like the 2004 model thou

  • chick car styling sux. 32k for a golf, 27-29k k for a civic si, damn near 40k for a subaru and mitsu. R u fukin serious. No wonder we are losing our houses and have maxed out credit cards.

  • lol u just can't afford it. I smell jealous

  • @windyzz jealous no, can't afford it, yes!! LOL! At least not with mortgage, bills, kids, etc...!lol

  • lol u guys are lucky being in america. In Aus this car cost AUD $60 000 after tax

  • worst review inside line is terrible the r32 goes 0-60 in 5.4 if u know how to drive but these guys dont

  • i think that was an auto thats why

  • @erichockey3

its not an auto its a double clutch gearbox DSG. Its the worlds fastest shifting transmission .8 milliseconds shift time.

  • wrong, the world fastest shifting transmission belongs to nissan skyline gtr r35 with .6 milliseconds shift time ;)

  • Geez what a blah blah, how bout a nice cup of shut the hell up.

  • Just ordered one yestarday, picking it up at the weekend...cant wait!

  • one of the funest car ive driven i wil have one soon

  • amazing car !! .. great sound and awsome looks

  • 1) its a great all around car, awesome performer, jack of all trades.

    2) its not onboxious with huge wings and big hood scoops

    3) it doesnt draw much attention to itself

    4) the exhaust note is just gorgeous

    5) girls love it, guys think its sick

    6) awd, 250hp, 0-60 in 5.5-6.0 sec, DSG, german interior = win

    7) you can drive in it all day across the country and you have the extra power not to show off but just so you know you have it.

    8) its a sporty/classy car

    9) only 5000 made

    .:R32

  • @carlitos07way Lulz at #2

    #4 I agree

#6...wish it came it 6 speed manual but that's just me

  • @carlitos07way it looks gay as fuck

  • @carlitos07way

You are right but VW had build more than 5000 R32

  • what a nippy little car.. I wish i can trade my GTI with this, perhaps next year or so...

  • I have a 5dr R32 with DSG. Great all rounder. Great saftey for the family and a boys toy when you are on your own. Love it to bits,,,,wish the price of petrol would come down though!!!!

  • I have an '09 and it does come with launch control in the dsg transmission. It is to be noted that, as u take ur foot off the brake, it takes about 1/2 second for the power to come through to the wheels, so for an optimal start u need to take ur foot off the brake a lil before than the lights turn green.

  • damn! that is a fuckin nice car! i love the exhaust

  • Love that exhaust snarl.

  • 14.6 seconds for the 1/4 mile is actually very fast for a 250Hp car.

  • i did that in my mk3 vr6 with 220 hp

  • not really

  • i likke this car :)

  • is this a joke, in the speed test they didn't even use launch control, they just pressed the accel and go, this edmunds review is not very serious

  • They probably don't want to give people any bright ideas. They don't want to be held responsible for amateurs messing up their cars.

  • I don't think this car has launch control (unless you mean manually revving to 4000 and letting go of the brake)

  • Launch control: ESP off, Transmission = S or M, Press brake, Floor accelerator, Release brake. The car has launch control, I use it off the start line in autocross all the time.

  • It does have a launch control program.

Used to have one and like the guy said below, thats how you do it.

  • @marzbite well thats how you get the real results launch control is cheating

  • Ok, but you have some german engineering on your hands rather then some asian rice ball, and this vid is a joke, the r32 can do much better.

  • I agree

  • thay could have done better i mean hell the Cobalt ss/tc performs better than this thing and what half the price

  • for thirty grand mor hpa will add twin turbos for 600+ ponies. 0-60 in 3.5 w/ dsg and 1/4 in 11.2-11.7 even for the mkiv minus dsg

  • shittay

  • R32 = sickness.

Your stock WRX is not beating an R32 Son. Trust Me

  • Comment removed

  • my stock wrx is beating that thing....it must be a track car

  • What do you mean by it must be a track car? Are you saying you were surprised by the times it achieved at the track here?

  • by track i mean open circut racing not quarter mile.....my wrx stock was a 14.4 and now its a 13.9 (quarter mile)

  • one would think that such a small car with such a big engine would be much faster!! and its really overpriced

  • Its heavy and you get alot of stuff in it you don't in other cars that compete against it. Like heated seats, leather, navi if you get the option. Plus its a german car... Interior of it is very very nice if you ask me.

  • since when is an r32 heavy O.o

  • 3500lbs is heavy. STI's weight 3200lbs.. I still would rather have an r32 much better all around car.

  • definately, I tested both out as well as the Mazda 3 Speed, but I like the R32 better, way better so now I drive a TR 4297. Luvin every second of it.

  • true

  • 0-60 actually 5.4..

  • yea i have one blue and it goes 0-60 in 5.3 5.4

  • the difference in the times can be attributed to how they do the launch. you can turn the TCS off and mash the gas and brake and let off the latter and you get this violent launch and have to deal with smelling your clutch for the next few minutes. this isn't advised since it is obviously beating the shit out of your tranny. it looks like edmunds left tcs on for their runs.

  • Yeh my Dad has an R32 and I still wonder today how it can be so fast considering it only has 184kw (250hp) and weighs upwards of 1500kgs. The numbers don't seem to add up. Any knowledge to why it is so fast despite average power and weight figures?

  • awd

  • such a big clumpy car..... nice looking but a 2ltr T is wat better

  • its not that big

  • Yeh an 05 STI is only 10kg lighter than an R32 (presumably manual) and actually (surprisingly) has a marginally worse weight distribution (front:rear) R32- 59:41 STI- 59.3:40.7. Yes I know this is so small but I was just surprised to find that these figures would be so similar considering the R32 has a 3.2 compared to a presumably lighter 2.0 t in the STI.

  • the sti has a 2.5t

  • The sprint times didn't use the launch control. Lame!

If it's 6.0 without then I'm safely calling it 5.8 with.

  • the 0-60 time was with LC

  • Is the r32 still being made? i cant find it on their website.

  • For the US there were only 5000 shipped over for the 2008 model year. You can either get a A3 2.0 Quattro and chip it, pay an ass load for the A3 3.2 S-line, or just wait till the GTI-R comes out (or whatever they call it) in 2 years or so.

  • my dad had one but sold it for an audi tt :(

  • I've had mine for 1.5yrs and it's an amazing car. Biggest downside is the fuel mileage. Looking forward to the R20T!

  • im sorry guys...while i get that the r32 is cool and quick and such (even though its not THAT quick), i just cant justify spending the ridiculous amount that it costs on a VW. I have a mk4 gti, and sometimes when i see an r32, sure i get all "aw, wish i got that..." but then i think....wow, i still have twenty grand more in my account because i dont. for the cost, r32's are a complete rip. i know its my opinion but i cannot see how someone would drop that much on a car with r32 numbers...

  • I have owned mine now for 6 months having traded a 2007 GTi. I would never go back. It's not the best value for money in many ways but its awesome to drive and I never get sick of it. I also own an SLK280

  • im not questioning its drivability, but the fact is, r32s hit 0-60 in 6.2 to 6-4 secs, which is slower than, for example, an E46 m3, 3.2TT, and S4. You could pick up used 32's from about $23k with middle mileage, and new ones for $29 to $34. of the other cars listed, with higher build quality, faster engines, better suspensions, and higher curb appeal (my opinion), you could get all of them in roughly the same price range with mileage as the 32's. for the money that is sunk in...why get a vw?

  • I dont disagree with some of your comments. I have had owned three WRxs and other fast cars and have an SLK Mercedes too. The way I just a car is not in the 0-60 figures so much as its total driveability, I loved my Subarus but this is the car I would still choose to take on a long country drive any day. The build quality is excellent and I adore the engine note. I get sick of cars in a real hurry and I still rush down to the exec car park to get into my Vee Dub.

  • hey gregisnumerouno, I completly get your point. The r32 is a really nice car, but it is pretty overpriced. You can have an old e46 m3 for the same price!

Personally I would only buy the r32 used, its a lot cheaper than, and has still a lot to offer. Over all the r32 is a really nice car, a lot better than the gti, and the only thing, which annoys me is the big engine. I would rather get a high turbo-charged one, like the s3 from audi, with four-wheel drive and 15 hp more.

  • aah, amo este cochee!

  • Pretty cool car!! Nice sound...but for 32k I'll stick to my GTI mkV...maybe put another 5k on it and it would just the R32 !!

  • kind of slow for the R32, i thought it was faster than that.

  • the older ones are quite a bit faster.... probably government emission restrictions & "safety" restrictions.

  • im not impressed with these numbers

  • this car has 240 hp and it only does the quarter mile in 14.6 secs wtf. my gti 1.8t does it in 14.75 and im not even chipped??? something wrong there ive seen the older r32 does 14.0 at the quarter mile done stock but then again the new is heavier.

  • new R32 is heavier has a more confusing 4motion so more drivtrain power lost but DSG is amazing.

this R32 is FWD until theres a slip where as the older R32's are permanent AWD.

  • not true... there is always a certain amount of power driving the rear wheels.. its haldex system shifts torque around, thats it

  • The new R32 is a 90/10msplit.

Every one know for a car to be a AWD it has to send at least 10 percent going to rear wheels.

  • WRX better than this...lol u just dumb cheap shit. R32 much better car than WRX.

  • if they put a turbo charger on this r32 it would look more like a porsche...........it would be way out of its class....i dont think they wanna do that.

  • VW R32 - Great car. I've got one and no matter how short/long my journey is, I've always got a smile on my face

  • old R32 or this new "thing"

  • the gti does 0-60 in 7.2, right?

and this does 0-60 in 6.0

    nice

  • There's no reason for this car to exist. The WRX is faster and cheaper.

Not to mention VW's reliability sucks.

  • but the WRX looks like shit!

  • lol.

  • i like that car,

    ESPESUALLY THAT SOUND!

  • boys u cant b dissing the japz look at the bloody GTR! like i believe i jus jizzed in my pants, but i still love my R32 :D

  • the should put a turbo kit in that car, run it at 20 pounds of pressure

  • You cant just fit a turbo to an engine that hasnt been designed for it. Your engine would be fucked in no time

  • what im saying is that the vw manafacture should put a factory turbo in it.

  • Now that would be a beast right enough!

  • exactlly, 0-60 in like 5 sec, 13 sec 1/4 mile, after market bov it would sound great

  • Tell me, why you can't turbocharge it? the engine would not be fucked up. I'd just make sure that i'd use quality parts, upgrade the cooling system with larger IC and run low - medium boost, you can't go wrong with that setup. Turbocharging is NOT dangerous or dangerous to the engine, if you do it correctly.

  • You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

"upgrade the cooling system with larger IC "

Upgrade? Are you implying it has an IC stock?

"Turbocharging is NOT dangerous or dangerous to the engine, if you do it correctly."

Define correctly. Any turbocharged setup will be detrimental to the engines health.

  • I agree wit u dude, everyone else look it up on google there are heaps of twin turbo r32s and what ive seen and heard even with turbos they are extremely reliable

  • Can I turbo my 2008 R32 with DSG?

  • You can but its not as simple as just throwing a turbo on and being the end of it, ul need to either remap ecu or buy a new one, cooling system, upgrade tranny n gearbox with certain parts so it can withstand the new (depending on how much you want 100-300hp) etc. but throwing a few $ at it and ul soon be smoking ferraris, bmw M3s etc for a quarter of the price.

  • watch?v=rR3i2qIak_k

  • love the sound of that engine

  • This car sounds awesome; it has decent looks, and decent daily driver. However when it comes to performance it falls short. Good newstalking about tuning though, I cannot wait to see what people will squeeze out of this 3.2 V6! Thats just my opinion.

  • And I wouldn't bring an R32 to compete with an evo or an STi. Hehe. I'd bring an Audi RS4.

  • this was a really great video it was totally what i expected and i have to say that you met the standards of what i expected to see.

  • Evo, or Subaru Impreza will outperform this car in everyway. the only person who drives this is probably a member of the Wehrmacht.

  • well said absolutely right!

  • youre so retarded, this car has a lot better quality and build quality that those plastic pieces of shit? the Wehrmacht LOLLL>>>so japanese car drivers are members of the KAMIKAZE ??AAHAHAHAAH

  • hahahahah!!!!!

  • u know wats funny? that VW actually made the GTI specially to compete againt the Si.......to take a slice of that segment......dont u think thas funny? VW worry about civic?

  • its not funny at all, the civic si is a great car and VW can make cars as good or better than Honda, for the same price, so there is nothing really funny

  • no its not funny........cause i said it before....nothing compares to german performance....to me the GTI is a more upscale car.....better than the civic.....i have nothing to hate on those cars.....that wa sactually my first choice when i was shopping for car.....u know which cars i hate and really diss........american.....sweet american junk!!! hahaha ....now thats funny!!

  • yeah I like German cars better, but i cant diss good Japanese craftsmanship either...and of course...American stuff is shit. lol

  • by the way.........u a bayer munich fan by any chance?.......our donovan is playing overthere..........

  • yeah I am !!!

  • im a civic guy, but that car sounds sick......i thought i could actually do better, like 5.8 to 60 and mid 14's.....but anyways, its a nice car....u cant go wrong with german cars.......

  • No STOCK Civic could do that, not even an 07 Si. Heh. This is a stock R32, imagine what it's capable of if you dumped as much money into this thing as you put into your Honda.

  • now ur coming a bit too sarcastic on my bro......dont get too ahead here.....look at those numbers....the r32 is doing 0.88g on the skippad, my civic in 0.89g..my slalom 68.9 the r32 67.8...60-0 in 124ft for the r32 and 128ft for the civic....so dont think my civic is a pushover....

  • Yaaa but yours isn't stock. =p That was my point. Stock you maybe have 200bhp. and something like 176 lb ft of torque. That is a STOCK car...

  • wow wow!!! wait........bone stock.......inside line....this same link.......when they did the same review on the civic back in 07.......when i said my car i mean..........the civic si........lets have this clear....im not saying my car is better, cause my first comment was, that the r32 is sick, sounds awsome........but ur puting the civic low....let me remind u...that 06 si vs 06 GTi...are almost the same, eventho the Gti has 200lbs torque, civic still managed to come on top.....

  • That's cause Honda is the worlds largest car manufacturer and your average american buyers don't know what performance is. I happen to know for a fact my car (06 GTI) can and will outperform the Si. I don't race on the street, but every comparison article in every magazine I've ever read (Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, etc...) And every review I've seen on TV puts the GTI a little better than the Si. If you still doubt me, go up against any stock GTI in your neighborhood. The proof is there.

  • 32k for this junk?

    gimme an audi a4

  • Exactly why I said go with the GTI, Kellogg. Chipped it'll outperform an R32, and it won't have that luxury car chrome front clip.

  • R32 looks almost the same as a GTI...

  • @transam

You're raving about your .96g but that's holding a single turn. Let's see your car get anywhere near the R32's slolam speed. Your oversteer would lag like a wet fish. Please don't tell me you're saying that with that much slide you wouldn't be half as likely to spin out as make it through the corner, and there's only one word for that...

    Pathetic.

By the way, R32 isn't worth the money. Pick up a GTI and chip it.

  • They need to come up with a new body, this ones getting tired.

  • i disagree thats one of the things that golf owners love, the shape, it grows more curves but is still unmistakably a golf, thats like saying porsche should change the shape of their cars its getting old & tired, why change something that obviously sells

  • Maybe the best small hatchback in the world, draw with the BMW 135i

  • wow, overpriced nazi warwagon at its finest! with that money, you can buy 45% of a Nissan Gt-R, or just buy an evo, 0-60 in 4.9

  • typical teen american comment, you dont have a clue about ANYTHING yet seem to think that Germany is filled with nazis, ok thats what we see on films... so films must be true... does that mean all americans are like forest gump? thats what we see afterall.

  • lol yea well you would be surprised with your metaphor ... 3/4ths of americans act like him :-/.. and this is coming from an american :-(

  • POS nazi warwagon made in Mexico.

  • wow there is a truly intelligent thought out comment

  • It's made in Germany u dumbass.

  • poor performance

  • New Intro vid awesome!

  • yawn........... cant they make something to break out of the mid 14's. vw is boring

  • ws6transam..... i wouldn't say vw is boring, some people love vw golf, this is just a generation thing and people are golf fans, you on the other hand seem to like a prehistoric car with suspension that should have been made in china that has the cornering ability of a sponge cake, ANYONE can make a fast car that doesn't need to corner, German engineering can and does do both, as do all european and asian countries, just Americans are a little slow at catching on

  • lol dude your so dumb its sad. if your anywhere near new new york ill let you come try and stay anywhere near my car in a corner in my "pre historic" car lol.....

why does everyone think german cars handle so great? lol my car pulls .95g in the corners

and yes, vw is boring and slow. any slow car can feel like it corners good when it cant go fast enough to even reach the limits of handling. go back to driving your beetle.

the corvette owns german cars on their own precious nurburgring. LOL!

  • sounds sick for a stock VW nice acceleration too more then i expected from it

  • WRX rules!

  • nice sound!!!!

  • I thought it would have been faster than that. Especially with that price.

  • Mazda MSP3!!!!

  • i want this car so bad!!!! after this year they're discontinuing it in the us market though :(

  • COOL

  • Rather have a BMW 135i :P

  • Rather have a mazda 3 cheaper faster

  • Perfect car for Canada...why can't we have it. We're stuck with the Audi S3...where you pay too much for the badge.

  • The style is really good, and the interior, the performance is ok for hatchback

  • Hatch backs aren't sports cars...

  • really? Then explain to me the Seat in WTCC or Subaru Sti, or Renault WTCC....you a really narrow minded lol

  • AMEN!

  • Nice looking car and sounds just awesome.

  • good sound

  • how many horsepower has in the USA???

  • this car is slow in everything, what purpose does this car serve? An overpriced AWD GTI?

  • you got that right a 23,000 mazda 3speed would eat its lunch.

  • lovely sound though

  • braking distance is a little to far for my liking.

  • badest car

  • Woot, Congratulations on testing the car that just got out of the production.

Golf GTI-R mk. VI later this year. 2.0TSFI 280 bhp - Impreza killer.

  • >>Golf GTI-R mk. VI later this year. 2.0TSFI 280 bhp - Impreza killer.

-- its going to have 265 BHP, 11HP up on the R32, even at 280 that won't be enough to even come close to something like the Prodrive Impreza STI 330s... they will need to be shaving 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 time and 11HP isn't going to do that even if the engine is half the weight.

Golfs have gone flabby and slow in their old age, this R32 looks quite pedestrian, although it sounds nice.

  • The new Impreza is total rubbish.

  • You may think its rubbish, but it will toast the golf, *guaranteed*.
