  • Cream riff, in the end!! Politician :P

  • Seeing this madman on February 4th with Uli Roth! Fucking yeah!!

  • One of the best bands ever... Very underrated unfortunately..

  • Heay, Heavy, Heavy, Slow and LCD ¡Hail!

  • whats with the random black guy drinking beer and eating a sandwich at 2:13 ????

  • way, way too short, i could listen to this for hours, wait a minute, i did, back in the early 70's. those really were the days, Mountain one night, the Who the next, Hendrix the following weekend, and, and the whole time i was stoned out of my mind beat that justin bieber or lady gaga(you fucking weirdos)

  • wow…this brings back serious flashbacks….Leslie playing the Les Paul Jr….he looked so big…Felix was killing that bass….man I was trippin'…..lucky time to be alive….

  • More cowbell

  • I see 25 Captain and Tanielle fans have voted...

  • The 40th Anniversary of Woodstock DVD "Ultimate Collector's Edition" does have 2 songs from Mountain that are must see...

  • wish there was a dvd of old footage of mountain! their records are BADASS!!!

  • thats a big dude!!!!

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • That shit was hard.

  • The best bass & guitar combo ever in my book..yea ya had page & paul, hendrix & reading..but none of them had the on stage jam comunication that west and papalardi had..when ya watch them play live its like watching a work in progress!1they are yelling at each other, making jams on teh fly, even laughing and telling each other to go lower or higher..Just awesome to watch

  • @TheDman216 Well said!

  • I saw them the same summer outdoors at Michigan State University with Jefferson Airplane, Rod Stewart, Chicago, John Sebastian and others.

  • Does anybody else feel this band is greatly under-appreciated?

  • @MrAdvance2go its funny you say that, because I think that every time I listen to them...

  • Get well Leslie,

  • great

  • Sorry to hear about Leslie, hope you start feeling better soon. I was at this concert and they were my favorite of the weekend!!

  • Long Live Leslie!

  • leslie is 1 of the most inspirational and gruond breaking guitarists ever no 1 sounded like him then but was copied later for so much

  • In the name of the father, and the son, and the holy fuckin' HOWARD STERN, let's keep this SON of a Mother Fuckin' bitch alive!!! THANK YOU! LESLIE IS THE SHIT!!!

  • Helped promote them in kansas early 70's. They dazzled us and are still inspiring.

  • Leslie will never die.

  • アメリカン・ハードの先駆け・・グレイト!~マウンテン・・必殺"ミシシピクイーン"~映画"バニシング・ポイント"で確か流れた!~LASTのリフは政治家!

  • Heal well Leslie...I remember you from 1975. I was just a child with a vinyl album new to college.

  • Praying for you Les. Get well soon mate

  • Whoever sees this footage and denies that Mountain is probably the first and greatest metal band of all time is committing blasphemy. The heaviness is absolutely unreal. All that coming from a fat Jewish guy playing a Les Paul jr. Unreal.

  • GET WELL SOON LESLIE!!!

  • Man he sure did belt it out in those days. One great player!

  • Lets all pray for the great Leslie West. Leslie underwent emergency surgery after being admitted to a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday when his leg started to swell and his foot went septic. The doctors tried for two days to save it to no avail. The decision to amputate was one that was necessary to save his life. Leslie is expected to recover but faces extensive rehabilitation. We are all prayin' for ya Leslie!

  • @depper Actually Mr. West was admitted to Ocean Springs Hospital in Ocean Springs, Miss. Ocean Springs is just east of Biloxi in Jackson County...

  • @depper I stumbled upon the news about Leslie quite by accident while browsing through Yahoo!. Of course, I'm rooting for him to recuperate quickly and get back to doing what he does like nobody else can: blow us away with his "mountainous" guitar sound. I know there's a long road of adjustment ahead, both physically and psychologically, but I know he's up to the challenge. I understand he's due to be released soon, if he hasn't already been.

  • @depper . Something very similar happened to my pops a number of years ago and now he's in his late 70's and driving around town and doing fine. I pray it's the same for the big man with the big sound. Best of luck Leslie. We love you!

  • @depper Thanks again depper. Great clip here. As for all your clips. What treats! I was fortunate enough to have seen Mountain quite a few times in the early 70's. Chatted with Corky a few times too. Great guy. Felix and Leslie were a great duo together. Felix's bass playing, and tone was unreal. Nothing quite like it live. What a loss. Leslie is a fighter. He will make it. The "King Of Tone" will be back!

  • @depper Praying for the big guy!

  • @depper He has the greatest spirit, God love him..

  • sorry to hear about bad news on Leslie's health

  • The first time Black Sabbath ever toured in the States, they opened for Mountain. Ozzy says Leslie West introduced him to cocaine.

  • Thanks, Depper - They are all available for purchase, should the hankerin' ever arise.

  • I photographed Mountain 41 years ago in Los Angeles at the Great Western Forum. Got some cool shots of Leslie & Felix "duking it out". Have a look by Googling "cacheagency" Once you link to the site, click on Photographers and Collections. Then click on Jeff Allen. Photos are in alphabetical order by performer. Hope you enjoy exploring the over 350 rock photographs from 1968-72 I shot , I'd love your feedback!

  • @r1bikecam Yes, I've seen these pics. They are amongst the best preserved shots taken of Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi during this period. First class, no doubt!

  • that sweet cajun lady........

  • love Leslie...thank you

  • Is he still alive? He looks like someone who'd have a heart attack he's so overweight. Oh, by the way, not bad.

  • @kja427 take a look at my channel.

Where beloved Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, and dozens of music legends werent able to beat their demons, Leslie has marched on.

Take a look in my channel for some great examples of the modern-day Leslie West! Here's a few fairly recent jams with Joe Satriani and Michael Shenker, search for these, with quotes.

"Satriani & West LAST SHOW - Stormy Monday"

"Leslie West and Michael Schenker Jam - Going Down"

  • @depper yeah, West is someone who by all logic should have taken a dirt dive somewhere around the early 80s but he's still kickin'. Must have the cardiovascular system of an ox to still be alive after decades of carrying all that weight around.

  • I've just watched "Vanishing Point" once again and this song rocks!

  • 巨漢レスリー・ウェストの小技が冴える、マウンテン"ミシシピッピークイーン"~好きなハード・リフだ!~最後にジャックの政治家が!

  • this is heavy duty

  • hearing this music, and seeing that F18 fly over (it was new technology then) makes me feel patriotic, especially seeing as how youtube has become a bastion of american bashing.

  • @MetricHotrodsdotcom If you think THAT makes you feel patriotic, you might want to check out Mountain's free concert at the World Trade Center, just a month before the towers were attacked. I have two songs from that concert in my channel, go take a look.

  • @MetricHotrodsdotcom F14 more likely.

  • @MetricHotrodsdotcom Thats an F-14 Tomcat. F-18 Hornets didn't fly til '78.

  • This is so good I want to have sex with my ears.

  • @Clemasi Hahaha the best comment ever! ;)

  • GoooD ;)

  • Leslie must of smoked quite a bit before this ;) hahah just look at how glassy his eyes are

  • This has to be my favorite song of all time! (since I was a kid in the 70's)

  • MOAR COWBELL!!!

  • Enjoy my latest gem! Search: Leslie West & Dee Snider Live - Round and Round

  • I missed this show - because I was born 6 days later :) watched the whole vid; these guys rocked!

  • who in the F would give this a thumbs down!

  • "Felix Pappalardi, Corky Laing, and Leslie West performing on Randell's Island on July 19, 1970"

    And Steve Knight.

  • First concert I ever attended. Mountain was the back up band to Black Sabbeth. Houston Texas colosium. 14 years old. Saw all of the greats. Wish the music era was like that again.

  • in my top 3 best gutarist!

  • my father named me after this guy

It's one of his favorite guitarists

  • @SUISElSEKI Wow, too cool! ;)

  • @SUISElSEKI Your father is cool

  • We're starting a youtube channel to get real music back. Our plan is to gain subscribers, and have bands sending us demos. If the demos are good, we will feature them on our channel, so people can stay updated on new bands. However, we will be very selective when it comes to what we feature, so the channel won't be full of shit. We believe the reason why rock isn't on the radio is because people aren't updated about new bands. Please subscribe, or send us a demo, it would be awesome.

    Thank you

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV

nice. Yes, this is real music. Rap, etc., pure garbage

  • one of the best songs ever when music came from the heart and was real!

  • @MetaLHeade666 so true

  • i love this song! lml!!!!

  • I want the whole show. This is awesome! Thanks for the post.

  • I saw Mountain live in Kuusisaari, Finland, in 1985. I was very young at the time and didn't have a clue about the band... but boy did they play loud! My ears were ringing for a week! :) Besides Leslie and Corky, they had Mark Clarke on bass. All I remember is a huge man on the stage and the WALL of guitar in my ears... wow! :)

  • Love them just breaking into Cream's "Politician" riff there near the end! Felix was close to Cream so that makes sense. But what's with the black guy appearing out of nowhere at 2:11?! LOL.

  • cool video, underrated band. me likey.

  • looks like a great show. I love he way they ed with the notes from Cream's "Political Man"

  • por favor!!que impresionante está esta banda señores!!de pie ante esta demostración impresionante de Rock'n'roll!!!

  • I was fortunate enough to meet Leslie on 2 occasions on Long Island. 1st twas @ Bald Hill in Farmingville and also out east in I believe Riverhead. This was in the late 1990s. He was so cool, gave Me a signature guitar pick and talked to Me @ the Riverhead show while He ate lasagne. We were leaning on the hood of a chevy blazer outside a sort of VFW hall. This was a priceless experience meeting My idol! Thanks to Leslie for taking the time with Me-- Rich stark

  • this fat bastard rocks

  • ha i was there

  • Felix Pappalardi's bass playing thru those Sunn amps was unlike anything I had ever heard back in the 60's. When I saw Mountain at Fillmore West it was unforgettable, loud and serious. Thanks depper.

  • The mammoth devastating riff sets in at 1:07

after the longest mouth-watering intro I've ever heard.

  • as a half dark woman this song doz so much for me

  • Back in the early 70's I saw Black Sabbath backed up by Mountain in the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. The place was rockin'. During the Mountain set I looked over and the at the time current conductor of the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra was standing in the wings taking it all in. Couldn't tell if he was truely enjoying the show but he hung around for most of the set then disappeared. Good times those early days of hard hitting rock music!

  • Makes the hair on my arms stand-up!

    This song has power!

  • 350 pounds of ''in your face'' vocals.

  • at 0:04 it definitely looks like JFK in Philadelphia - NOT Randalls Island

  • Anyone know a song by leslie West called ' house of blue light ' I believe, came out in the ' 80s. Would love to hear it again, cant find it to save my life....Thanks

  • @1QuikTransAm I believe the song is called Hard Times. Look up Leslie West Hard Times, video is on youtube! :)

  • @depper Thanks!! Your my hero. That is the song, I couldn't even remember the title since it was probably '85 or '86 when I last heard it. I actually saw Mountain on that tour...They toured with Triumph for that one. Leslie is a much under rated musician

  • @1QuikTransAm You may thinking of a commander cody song by that title.

  • @1QuikTransAm :: at times you can try only using the lyrics, portions of the lyrics, that can bring it up too. its possible you have the title wrong. but try that !!

  • Redneck Rock n roll!!!! no yankee can stop us

  • @crackerHero Hey shit for brains, Leslie was born and raised in NYC. DICK HEAD!

  • i dont think anyone cares, this is real southern rock for dirty white boys who dont sheeiit from any prick out there like it or not

  • @daveycooks1 LOL!

  • Man brings back memories. We saw them in late 70 at the old Park Center in Charlotte NC. same tour. what we called fillmore open seating meaning get your ass to the front and boogie

  • @depper .......Michaels here..... isn't boring when a drill makes a hole in someones head?

  • THAT is rock & roll!

  • My name is Mark Michaels and played with Mountain when Leslie called the band the Wild West Band. I played bass and another guitarist named Anthony Salinis played guitar. Good guitar at that ! I want to say high to all my people with Leslie, and wish him all the luck in the world!!!!!!

  • @markbergman711 Nice to meet you Mark! Please come by my Mountain forum ... you'll notice the Great Fatsbies link in my profile! ;)

  • @markbergman711 thank you for some great music! happy memories with you!!

  • @markbergman711 thanks for good music memories nd happy times, were few better.

  • @markbergman711

What a cool guy you are dude. Respect.

  • Tone of the Gods.

  • leslie is such a powerful vocalist. this is awesome

  • Damn i'd like to transport myself back to see this...EARGASM OH YEAH

  • FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELIX!

  • such a great song. check out my cover if you have the time, i really try to do my best : watch?v=dTceKmv6UW8

    thanks and keep rocking !!!

  • God love a fat hippie

  • Felix Pappalardi was the true love of Juliana Hatfield's mother's life until the day he was shot and killed. RIP

  • They called him mountain because of his size. He looks about average now.

  • Perfect Heavy Classic!

  • I was there, last concert I went to before going overseas. Three weeks after this, I was in Viet Nam. It was a hell of a show, all performers were excellent. Really glad I took the concert in before getting shipped out. Memories of it helped me through some of the rougher times over there.

  • Wow. I'm glad to hear this concert gave you something else to think about over there.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your service. Ya'll are the real heroes. Merry Christmas!

  • @mtzlplex

I'm sure most of us here can't even begin to imagine the difference between, one moment, going to concerts and the next moment being in Vietnam. And I'm not going intrude on your privacy and ask you about the rougher times, but I'll just say that Leslie West would be moved to hear he provided some solace for you.

By the way, who else played on Randall's Island that day. I really just know just know Randall's Island from the N.Y. Cosmos soccer team of the 70s and the WFL's NY Stars

  • Leslie West is a friend of mine on Facebook and has a cool page on there with a lot of old school photos.

  • Could you post a link to his page? There's like 5 million leslie wests on facebook!

  • I'll send you a PM.

  • was leslie in a movie called "the money pit"? there was a short scene where a fat guy in a girl outfit with pigtails in his hair talkin to tom hanks' character tellin him he wanted to name his band after Meryl Streep.

i almost passed a kidney stone. LMAO

  • ur looking and one of the forefathers of metal leslie west

  • I had live 8 track boot back in the seventies witha tune I have never heard again and can still hear in my head-title unknown :( it was long and no it wasnt Nantucket Sleighride.

  • Was it crossroader?

"Dream Sequence" was very long and the best work EVER done by Mountain in my opinion.

  • I love the way Leslie keeps looking over at Felix. Completely fucking psychotic, in the very best way.

  • This was a very esoteric, explosive band. However, they were extremely harmonious. They were best of friends. they were very tight.

And boy did it ever show on stage.

You must check out the 5:25 minute "Mountain - Mississippi Queen - 1970" from Stever1957. best facial expressions you'll ever see!! :)

  • Thank you, they are great!

  • meilleur version!!!!!

  • damn! Corky Laing sounds like a big fuckin steam train plowin through the stage with those drums.

    love it!

  • I ran away from home in '73 and met a very hot lady who, besides turning me on to this song, changed my life! Rock on!!!!

  • What songs did sabbath open with in that gig?

  • Leslie West insists that this is the 1st heavy metal song.

  • I've never heard Leslie West say that. However, Leslie West and Tony Iommi truly WERE the pioneers of hard rock... which eventually became known as heavy metal. Remember - it was Black Sabbath who opened for MOUNTAIN in the 1970s.

  • OK thank you, I dont need a lesson in pioneers of hard rock 101. I know a bit myself.

  • That lesson wasn't for you brib, it was for everyone else who cares to know the truth.

Something tells me you wouldnt be able to learn the truth anyway..

  • bribber...... I might get slammed for this..Mountain was and is much heavier and not talkin weight, then Black S. musically- great musicians- HEAVY- as Clapton said it about Cream Heavy evolved from underground music like- 10 Years After- plus it wasn't Dark or mind settling Mountain was Heavy plus you could groove and get off . We do All agree Sabbath and Mountain are better then the Jonas Brothers Right? sorry a bit of humor Peace and keep it Cool

  • HAHA, Mountain and sabbath were both extremely heavy. Mountain possessed much better tone thanks to Leslie and song composition thanks to Felix. Corky could out-drum Sabbath anyday so even though I liked both groups, I thought the Mountain sound was a more mature, beautifully played sound. Especially live. Just my opinion.

  • Dont forget Blue Cheer

  • Comment removed

  • @depper Michaels here-T REX also opened for Mountain in the Fillmore East in the late 60's...original hard rockers!

  • Leslie West!!!!!!!!!! Fuck if I was there I would have a fat ass Columbian Gold Joint in one hand a can of Bud in the other and be dancing my ass off

  • At 1:10 get ready to hear those tube amps scream! Excellent tone. You can't help but love it.

    5-stars!

  • That guitar tone is fatter than the great fatsby himself!

  • Yes, especially since that guitar was one of the cheapest of the Gibson line!

  • That's a Gibson Melody Maker... My dad had one and an amp, and sold them together for $50 .. now they're worth a ton.

  • JB, thats not a Melody Maker, its a Les Paul Jr. The bodies were essentially the same. :)

  • When I was growing up a friend of mine had a Melody Maker. It was cherry red, mahogany body with double cutaway. I played it a few times and it felt pretty nice.

  • This is A Les Paul Jr. A Melody Maker has a straight head while the Jrs has the traditional Les Pual head. FYI

  • I shot black & white photos of Mountain in Los Angeles in the early 70's. cacheagency is the site to see my photos. Click on Photographers, then Jeff Allen, and go to page 5 (at the bottom of each page of photographs) for the shots of Mountain. Hope you enjoy them!

  • Wow, your pictures of Leslie and Felix are amongst the best I've ever seen. The facial expressions on Leslie are priceless. Felix just may be photographed less then the Loch Ness monster :) ... so seeing Felix this close up is just great! I recommend all Mountain fans to check these pics out. Just fantastic...

  • man i can relate. can you say timothy leary.

  • leslie sure lost some weight since then huh. man he can rock..

  • Nothing like West...

  • Saw Mountain with Foghat as the opening act from the second row in Chattanooga around 1972-73. My ears are still ringing. Spoke with the band out back after the show. Pretty sure they were all fried.

  • Classic

  • My Dad (Chris Masuak) plays this at home on his guitar all the time. We have to leave the house...too loud. You can hear it out back of 10 acres.

  • this makes me want a les paul jr.

    just for this

  • i love this fucking loud and proud band leslie rocks and can listen to this song everyday .don,t hear great rock with such heart and passion like this anymore

  • yeah, this is rock done proper!

    No fag Jonas brothers here.

  • Felix FTW~~!!~~

  • I saw them when they were The Vagrants

  • Kinda looks like andre the giant. =) I love Mountain!

  • Saw these guys at Georgetown Univ. -in a small basketball Court hall, they were loud, but then Leslie went over to the amp and moved a big switch it started shaking the damn bleachers, best small concert I ever saw, Spooky Tooth was the lead in band.

  • Wow! Thats just cool!!
